  1. If I get one to the boat and feel ambitious I will try it. I hope I like it because it obviously flys under the radar. Where to keep one if I get it will be the biggest issue. Bass boats aren't exactly geared for gar.
  2. Do you just fillet it out after you peel it? How are the bones? I'm a big fried fish guy.
  3. If I knew how to clean them I'd like to arrow a few. That's a lot of freezer bag swimming around in one fish. I've heard they are very good cleaned by someone that knows what they're doing. Btw we set down on a big school of them Friday at grand. My son am was amazed as they porpoised around the boat. He grabbed his redfin and started casting. No idea why he had a redfin. I said boy if one of them takes a notion to eat that you've just lost that redfin. I wish he would have though. I've hooked them cranking on grand before and the power is amazing. It basically felt like the bottom of the lake moving and there just wasn't much you was gonna do about the direction he wanted to go. I lost one of my cherished strike king series 3 lake fork specials this way.
  4. Goodness what a beautiful boat sir. Tastefully setup. Hopefully someone snaps up the whole package quickly.
  5. Big dude perfect fan! Clean videos you can watch with your kids. Not that you shouldn't prescreen them but you know what I mean. Very funny. Their trick shot videos are great too. I've met the old guy that went to lure school a few times at the ramp I think lol! It's always an inside joke with my boys and I.
  6. The strike king s11's are supposed to be decent for cheapies. I thought about buying some for spares.
  7. I should have added I much prefer the 580p's in costa. I had a pair of 400p's briefly. My eyes did not like them. I haven't tried 580g's but I know they'd only be better. Id break them suckers in a heartbeat though so I won't buy them. Lenses clarity is why I stick with costa. It's probably a confidence thing.
  8. Trolling motor. Though some have special setups for windy days were they use the rear transducer since it's near impossible to keep the bait in the cone of your front transducer. Running in 83khz would continue me at this some. I would like to hear Bills take on this setup and what he does in this situation. It can be a blast cruising flats looking for isolated fish to drop on. There's no real science to it other than in the fall and later don't be afraid to go to any depth.

I he and the others had been there today but they weren't. Nor were the willows fish. The lake dropped about 4" since yesterday and cleared up some up shallow. 4" is a mile when they are barely hanging on as it is. The brush piles fish I dont know. It was could be a timing thing. Yesterday was later than the weigh in (weigh in was 1) so maybe they turned on in the afternoon. I went through the best area twice and another similar are. It was a three fish limit. It took 13.25 to win and 9 something to get a check. The good thing is it was a great time with my wife. She's more of a moving bait person but she stuck with the jig except when we were up by the willows. She did great and fished hard. She's not much on the net though. Gonna have to get that dialed in. The first fish she netted I suggested I'd just handle it myself the remainder of the day lol.

Yea it does if I don't burp it when I shut down or trim it down when coming off plane. So laziness lol. Today I was wishing I could wash the front deck to cool that sucker off.
  11. Was that the one that came apart too?

Good example of si being used today. Idled on a flat in the middle of nowhere today. Found some piles. My boy catches this one. Next pile I lose a good one that buried up. I figured that was enough so I found more piles in the area but didn't cast any more. He was pretty pumped. I caught a few solid keepers flipping willows for about a half hours worth or so but not tournament winning fish. I only fished totally new water today. Now tomorrow hopefully to put things together.

I guess I didn't see the forest for the trees.
  14. Does the green cut down the light in the bright sun better than blue? The primary reason I bought the blues was more for sun protection rather than visibility. If the greens are even better than the blues I know what my next pair will be.

Well no but neither was yours unless they dress like brush piles at loz. I thought we were just showing screens. If the lake ever gets low enough I'm going to take a metal detector to this spot.
  16. I'm a costa fan. I wear amber in the spring and sight fishing. This year I bought blue mirrors to wear during bright summer days. Both frames are corbinas. I know nothing about prescription stuff.

Crap the weigh in is at 1 as it is. I'm cool with that though. They have burgers and drinks ready for the anglers when you get back. It's a great ran tournament.

So I have to catch 12.8 and then I really ultimately win? I just hope my wife has a good time. She's not a boat ride person so sitting in the middle of the lake on a 97 degree day with typical Grand boat traffic is not an ideal scenario. I'd rather it be an April willow bite for many reasons but when someone is watching both kids at once you take what you get. I'll try the willows since there are still some with water but I'm not optimistic.

I don't understand why it's so hard to believe that finding structure and cover faster is not better.

Vertical fishing is not part of this conversation. Were you video game fishing in tournaments this year???

Dude I have a 13yo boat with one of the graphs I bought used and the other I was able to afford due to the rebate. Also I sold my current graph to get it and that only put me out about $300 to upgrade from my 998 to the 999. If I was all about the latest and greatest I'd have much more than two midrange graphs on my boat. My budget doesn't allow it. To counter your statement about guys into electronics someone I consider to be one of the best tournament fishermen in the area proves that statement dead wrong. I will not name drop but I'll say he did well at the all American this year and has been solid for a while. A few years ago when I was considering my first unit (898) I asked him what he thought about side imaging. His words were that he has cashed many check due to him having it on his boat. Finding brush, ledges, rock piles isolated lay downs etc etc etc is inarguably easier with si. It's about isolating your time to productive water when you aren't beating the bank. Same story with a couple grand lake gurus I know. Yes it's neat to tinker with but it's also productive and a learning experience. Again with one of the very best fisherman on Stockton. He applied si and got serious about it and now he's the guy to beat post spawn. So maybe wrench is right that he doesn't know anyone that can run s graph and fish good. I'm not surprised really.

I will say that you have me pegged wrong and I would be glad to explain in person rather than repeating myself on this forum. I do know a useful TOOL when I see one though.

I've already said earlier that all I have is two 999's. Nothing special. At what point did I imply it was superior to anyone's? Do I know what everyone has? You are being a smart Alec for no reason dude. The irony of your challenging statement is that is exactly what you are doing. Look man. We disagree on a few things. It's ok. I'm sorry I'm one of the members not blindly tagging along. Now to the statement that I made to the person above. His was very vague and not helpful at all. New things are coming. Well ok that's a given. A new iPhone is coming out. Did anyone else know that? I did! Not news. The point is what is this new technology that is worth waiting for? It almost sounded salesmanish especially being a first post. Again some substance would have been nice. Now if your opinion is to wait wait I'm curious why? You don't need these right? You have intuition. Also back up and read who started the pissing match. This was headed back in a productive direction until you brought more wisdom and intuition again.

That's an interesting first post but more info is needed to convince someone to wait 6+ months when they could be learning about something new.
