I used to camp on the first property west of the bridge. Nunny, the old guy that owned it would mow the corner we camped in prior to us getting there. He was an awesome guy and raised his family going to that camping spot for decades.
Anyway I used to pitch a jig around the wood on that stretch. We never went to far down so I’ve probably only seen about 3/4 of a mile of that stretch. I can’t remember any riffles that caused any problems. I do know a buzzbait has caught lots of fish through there too.
Enjoy it. If everyone appreciated it, it could be a special place.
Long story short we will likely not be using a cabin by Eagle Rock that we have the last few years. So I was thinking this would be a good opportunity to take my boys to other parts of the lake they haven’t seen yet. What I have in mind is the Baxter/Indian Creek area. You guys know what we require as fishermen pulling boats and parking trucks etc. Family friendly is important too. A dock isn’t crucial.
Other areas are fine too. I just kinda picked there because I like the area and it’s a middle ground with lots to offer. I assume boat traffic here makes it about impossible to enjoy when it’s warm.
Lol well I’m not sure why that stuck out as a good illustration but if someone is a sucker for sight fishing they know the struggle is real.
That said, every year I’m realizing more what a great tool jerkbaits are. I’m stubborn so it took a while. This time of year is my favorite because you don’t have to imagine how fish react since you can see it. Watching fish shoot like torpedos out of bushes to hit the spook or 110 was awesome. Or watching them chase it down. A couple years ago (I reported then too) I was catching better quality fish that would leave a bed 20’+ to smash a jerkbait that was ripping by. This year the quality wasn’t there for me but fun is fun. I also see how important long casts are due to the drawing power of these baits. Countless fish followed it to within feet of the boat and once the baits action stopped they turned, of course.
The pic pretty much sums it up. Lots of jerkbait and topwater fish to be had but I get distracted by bedding fish.
75-78° water
Mouth to half way back of actual coves was best. A spook and 110 knockoff jerkbait did most of the work. The more souther I went the more worser it got. We left Saturday because of the weather coming in Sunday but if I could have fished Sunday I would have started at Roaring River and worked toward Shell Knob. I would have ignored ALL bedding fish under 3lbs too. It becomes a challenge then a vendetta then a test of pride against a pea brain fish and then embarrassment thinking about the time I wasted just to prove a point to nobody but the fish and I.
I am selling this for a friend. It's currently in my possession. It's a 7' mh that he barely used at all. It's in excellent shape. He only wants $75 which is $65 off new. I am located in Carthage. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lews_Custom_Speed_Stick_Casting_Rods/descpage-WCL.html
I have a 999 with two HD transducers, two dongles, and an ethernet cable (20' I think, maybe). The case of the unit has a small rub from a dock cable. $850 for the whole shebang. I can sell it all separate and if that's what you want pm me.
Once the graph sells I'll have some ram mounts for sale
The old school colors are sweet. The depth is a little disappointing. Nothing wrong with another tool though.
Anyone nes else finding humor in all the stories of so and so buying the original molds? It's turning into the catfish the size of volkswagens by the dam story.
Awesome! I will look forward to it. Hopefully this time the lake won't be 10' over and rising 1'+ a day. Some lessons in stable conditions would be great.
Sight fishing has shown me how often a fish can bite, even a short tight line, and you never feel them. In fact while sight fishing I rarely feel the bite at all. It kinda messes with me honestly lol. I realize the fishes attitude and the circumstances are different but it makes you wonder how many bites you got that you never knew about for every one you did. Things like that could keep a guy up at night.
Yea it kinda surprises me too. It happened this weekend actually. I don't doubt the fish live just fine but nevertheless I wish it was different. It may have something to do with me working them pretty fast but it definitely happens in the winter too.
I've pulled more eyeballs out of fish over jerkbaits than any other bait. They swipe at them a lot and get stuck on the outside of the head. It stinks but it's part of using one.
