I have no doubt if they wanted to they could develop a unit the size of a laptop that could have google earth overlay and 3rd topographical maps you can tilt and create colors for every contour possible as well as take snap shots of the structure you pass over it and render it to 3d and place it on your map as well as have lake level updated to your map from the lakes website. Kicker is there is programs currently available for land based systems and some are free such as Google earth. We fishermen are our worse enemy because we want the shiny lure and will take it and buy it smiling the entire time.

7-20-14 Wake Boat, Jet Ski, Pontoon, And Fish Report
Feathers and Fins replied to YAKFM's topic in Beaver Lake
Never ( repeat NEVER ) checked while fishing on Beaver Lake.... 10 years..... Checked twice while waterfowl hunting in the same 10... However I do believe they know my boat and know im honest so probably don't bother me and I suspect its the same for others they have checked. Granted Both checks were in in the last 5 years though and having a hunting/fishing license they would know that and have no reason to stop me other than check on limit. I do know however they do sit and watch and have checked people at the ramps. As to the sheriff and rangers I have never had one stop me and do even a safety inspection. I don't give them a reason though but i have watched people blow through the no wake zone at Prairie Creek and the 12 Bridge and numerous other safety violation and a blind eye turned so it would seem. Maybe they had some other call or directive that kept them sitting where they were and just watching, i really am at a loss for words with why they don't enforce harder. -

They wake at much lower speeds than 50. It would require the area being off limits to Skiing, Wake boarding activities and a speed limit of 45 would be reasonable from 412 to point 12 then a 35mph zone above that. I would also like to see the create no wake zones in some of the coves such as Prairie Creek and Avoca and from the North ramp at Rocky Branch to the Back also Mid section of Fords Creek and Starky, Rambo and from the mouth of Blackburn back. Those concern me in low water years especially. -
Never on him but it was in the fridge... then again elapid bites he didn't need antivenin for.

The competition will benefit anglers greatly, but I always keep an eye on the silent competition like Ray-Marine they are really coming on. Lord help them all if Furuno decides to ever get in to freshwater seriously.

You Reap What You Sow (Garden Harvests)
Feathers and Fins replied to BilletHead's topic in Gardening
Wow Ness, hate hearing that on your maters mine are on steroids or something. Been pulling about 2pnds on my cherries every 3 to 5 days and both my beefsteak and goliaths are producing 8 to 15 a week right now. But we had no bugs on them. I did lose my cucumbers due to beetle though and Okra is a tad slow to come on. Peppers are the best we have seen in years. We did lose our carrots but that was my fault I planted them amongst the peppers thinking the peppers would be a typical year and not overpower them. Normally it works out great but this year it didn't. -
17+ to win Hickory last night.

Mike if you have some you have written and have the links let me know I will put them there as well.

I actually have an excel chart I made similar to the one for all the species on Beaver that is much more refined as to what bait, when to use and where on the lake by time of year. Cranks are definitely on it as are some other baits. Let me try and edit it down a bit to just the baits and time of year and I will post it. but it aint getting my where and when lol.

I should note for people afraid of bites Bill Haast was bitten over 172 times and lived through them all and more not in the wiki info and he lived to a very ripe age of 100

Not my finger. its a friends. my worse was not even a snake I had in my collection at the time but one that got me on the hand when I went to the call of nature. THANK GOD he hit the hand and not the part I needed to use at that time.

25 to 35 fow... look on channel ledges and long points. Long points present a major challenge as your target zone may only be an area of 100 ft and takes really working it methodically and not giving up to fast if fish are present. Channel ledges present a bigger area to work and more forgiveness as they can be laying anyplace along it giving you many chances. I told RPS in another thread I foresee a jigging spoon bite coming on soon and its based off where the fish are at now and what they are doing there. The spoon bite can be some of the biggest and best of the year and a lot of fun. If one thing sucks about walleye fishing its how fast they can get off one technique and on to another. Not saying a harness wont get them year round because it will. But on the flip side Walleye can also be one of the best freshwater technique and pattern fish. In that I mean they have seasonal migrations and patterns that can be patterned year after year and when they do that move specialized techniques are needed and they are very simple at that but requires mastering how they want it on a particular body of water.

Hooks: I've seen one hook and two hook set ups. Preferences? Octupus vs straight long shank or twisting type Single Hook slow death preferably but true turns work also in size 2 to 2/0 Weights: cheapest lead weight vs. fancy bottom bouncer weights? Bottom Bouncer pencil style Line: I know floro is hard to beat, anyone have experience with braid leaders? Negative ghost rider Knot: I saw F&Fs loop type knot where the dropper is, any more details to the exact knot and if you tie your piece of line to the weight, straight to that loop? I slip the loop through the eye of the swivel and pull it tight.... Main line goes to the weight Rods: If I use my medium action bass rods instead of longer softer action rods, how badly do I hurt my odds. I know when I use stiff rods I miss a lot of subtle taps so I would say it would hurt you. Amount of line out: is there a rule of thumb on how much to start out with? Set your trolling motor to where you are doing .3 mph.... Drop the rig down and close bail.... as the boat moves let out just enough line so you maintain bottom contact. Im not letting a lot out most the time I can see the baits on my graph Finally, are you letting them have it on the hook set or just a little pull? Depends on the fish if they load the rod im setting hook. if I see tap tap tap I will do a couple things from flipping the bail to give them the bait or swing the rod back to give slack. That is only something each circumstance dictates and only experience will tell you which to do

Well I did give you a present lol

Well at least you didn't post pictures of walleye released lol... Hey bad days happen to us all, suppose to cool down a bit that might help. You tried where I told you on Beaver yet?

New Angler Who Cannot Seem To Ever Catch A Fish
Feathers and Fins replied to jimithyashford's topic in Introduce yourself
It sounds like your a shore based angler. If that is the case I would go at it with a live bait approach to start using a slip bobber with a bobber stop to give you a 12ft play and use minnows on that rod. The second rod I would set up Carolina fashioned and use a Crawler. The second rod will teach you to feel the bite and cadence of the retrieve and live will catch fish. After you start learning the cadence needed then switch to plastics and try different colors to find what works best ( also keep a close eye on the color of live crays and minnows to help show you what color plastic ) With the bobber rig it will help you learn depths and if its a moving retrieve or popping maybe even just sitting, when you learn what they want out of the bobber on live bait switch to crappie jigs and whack um. -
It all depends on which BASS Magazine you read or which Scientific paper but most are in the 4 to 6 year age if you average it all out for a 15inch fish. There are to many variables but that would be a good average to go with.

Same cig boat that buzzed us when we were out? If so that guy needs to be reported I just passed him off when we were out as a one time deal maybe from out of state but if its the same guy and he is from AR then the sheriff needs to be notified as he is dangerous. -

Not bad at all -
Oh and Randy, the Spoon bite should be going in the next week on Beaver, they are starting to sit on channel edges picking off shad cruising from the channel to the shallows which means its time to break out the XPS and go to work. 1/2 and 5/8 oz are the killers in silver. If you're in Rogers stop by HLS and pick up a few you wont be unhappy.

Lurkers annoy me, kind of like a thief if you ask me, and a thief is the lowest form of humanity and that is NOT a humble opinion. I don't care if people don't want to get in to detail or give locations that's cool. But at least make the report and what bait and depth. Beaver is a very big body of water and if you are here learning from people how about helping a little as well. When I started the FB Page for Beavers fishing reports I didn't think I would get any feedback for info but surprisingly im getting messages to help build a weekly report which im going to try and have posted every Friday to help the mom and dad get their kids on fish. And there are other resources in the works to help with that goal. Doc and others who know don't say yet final details still being worked out. To me fishing is all about passing on knowledge and helping people catch fish.

No but you did put your daughter in the lockers.... That was stupid because now she has a gauge for what size things she can store in it.
-
Well you opened it so I must put this one up Doc doesn't have an ego but a childish love for fishing and his new boat
