Nathan in the fall to early spring I have had stripers come up 50ft behind the boat when I speed up to move to a different point and nail the bait and even had them come up within 10ft. When I live bait drift I really don't use balloons that often I prefer the natural look of the drift. I set one at the previously mentioned 50ft and one at 75ft typically with a light split shot. Balloons are when I find them in coves or working a point. I try to set up 150 ft off the 20ft mark of the point and use the wind to send the balloons to the 20ft point and use a clothes pin to release the bait when hit typically suspended 5 10 and 15ft deep.

12 bridge would be my top choice, there is plenty of whites, crappie, catfish and some walleye in the zone along with small stripers. For numbers it would be my go to spot. The dam area I would be chasing stripers. The river it would be hard not to pass up the trout action to catch fish but other species are an unknown variable right now.

Nathan until school goes back in many people do not want to chase them simply because of boat traffic and the heat of the day. Come the 18th of August you will see more people chasing them. Another problem is the lack of bait this year, with Grand closed for shad and it being illegal to bring bait out of Missouri many people are switching over to other species as options to fish for. There is a lot of other baits available but people either don't think about them or know where to get them and some are to stubborn to learn a new trick. And finally its a very early bite from all reports 3am to 9am and most people are working so cant go or if they go on the weekend there is wake and ski boats on the water by 6am now. Don't worry though should be more and more reports after labor day for sure.

Letting The Cat Out Of The Bag

Guys I appreciate the kind words to me. Aaron is one of the hardest working guys I have met and don't know how he does it. If you could go to the HLS Facebook page and post the same kind words to him. Its not often you hear so much good from customers and even less as an owner of a business that they get the praise but sure is nice to hear it so go give him some thanks on the page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hook-Line-Sinker-Outdoors/337690456256149 In business its a team effort and I am lucky to be associated with good people, and in this one people that do hunt and fish and can help customers from years of experience. total sales pitch sounding but so dam true and I had said it long before I had the pleasure to be working there. -
Idiot Boaters Endangering Their Kids
Feathers and Fins replied to merc1997 Bo's topic in Table Rock Lake
Yes it would, and does apply it is a safety law and one in place for a reason. I like to ski on occasion and NO WAKE is also typically followed in most regs by under 5mph and as a skier I have never been pulled at that speed and been able to stay up. maybe a kid could but not an adult. Now there is also a rule about anchoring or being and obstruction in a navigation channel, I didn't look for that lakes particular rules or the states but a fishermen in a nav channel would be breaking the law as well. Looking at the 9 second video that was posted unsure why but they did. That aint no wake and aint no 5mph no way in heck! Also looking at the video the map and pictures they were within 100 ft of docs period and that is a no wake zone and the skier should not have been up at all. Also from pics the boat is throwing a wake. All this goes back again to enforcement NOT enforcing. Sooner or later one of these idiots is going to get hurt at night and they will shut our lakes down for night use or they enough dock owners will get damages and then no boating within 100 feet will be established making dock fishing illegal from boats. The writing is on the wall we already cant fish marina's whats next! -

LMAO... I see where they acknowledged they broke the law but basically saying " ITS OK THE POLICE EVEN LET US " This just goes to show that if Law Enforcement would actually start enforcing the laws these incidents would probably stop! I would also be willing to bet that they probably ran past the fishermen more than one time to get the response they did, I might be wrong but im betting not. Same tune I have said before if LEO WOULD GET OUT AND WRITE UM THE BS WHOULD STOP! -
Im not opposed to calling it... but the info was not first hand or even second hand but someone who heard some people say it and didn't verify it. Did they say it before the scale stopped jumping. was the scale even accurate he did they say they had to mad scramble to find a scale and that store is full of scales. WAY to many non-first hand info without even length and girth. Combine that with posting it on a forum where many members have caught large stripers and are comparing it to 30's and 40's with know size it was a BS CALL worth calling. Rule number 1 in fishing if you say you caught a whopper you better be able to back it up or its a fishtail. Rule number 2 don't bring a clicker in my boat if you don't want to cry for it.

Troph I seldom get mad its just not in me but HSUS is a button that will turn on my attack button. I ve gone up against them before and they are not friends of animals I have watched them destroy animals for no reason when they had volunteers ready to take them and vets ready to help the sick ones. I would love to see them abolished by law.

If you haven't heard Muck Boots supports HSUS, As a sportsman that is enough to make me never buy their product again, As a member of a farming family it would make me not want to buy the product again. But as someone who has had run ins with Hsus in the past and seen them destroy animals I can tell you I will not support Muck again. This is something I thought many of you would like to know. Taylor pics can be deceiving I would have guessed it at 40lbs easy. Nice fish Here are two of mine length and girth in pic. The Big one was 42.4lbs and the little one was 18.7lbs both fish weighed on a certified scale. Im 6'04 for comparison and my shoulders were digging in to my side to hold those fish my hand holding the big one across the knuckles is 4.50 inches.

Idiot Boaters Endangering Their Kids
Feathers and Fins replied to merc1997 Bo's topic in Table Rock Lake
Hey Glen, would you consider a person pulling 2 kids under 12 for sure without life vest on 1 on a tube cutting a boat off forcing them to go from full plane to quick stop to avoid hitting the kids on the tube then watch them slingshot the kids over a known marked sandbar with stumps and logs on it and not one person watching the kids Safe or Child Endangerment. Me im all about letting kids play and get hurt just like I did when I was a kid. But certain behavior is endangerment. -
There is just to much to talk about when it comes to Taney here is the link to its forum start reading and start dreaming. http://forums.ozarkanglers.com/forum/4-upper-lake-taneycomo/ As to a boat and shore fishing I seldom am fishing places a shore angler can cast to in my boat. Most the bank ponders you see are Bass anglers as a rule and on these Highland lakes a boat is the only way you can get to many of those banks even.

Mike. I was driving it wasn't a life review it was ANGER that some $#@%$^ parent would risk there kids life for no reason I was very upset. -
Ok that helps. Lets break the skunk first of all. Head up to Taneycomo and fish Outlet 1 and 2 to get some fish and confidence back in yourself. IT might well be like shooting fish in a barrel but it will help get your confidence back. Next your without boat if I remember and these lakes are very tough without a boat heck even with a boat they can humble even the best Pro, so never give up or get down on yourself that can in all truth make the trip bad before it starts. Positive attitude is a key in catching.

Im going 35 to 40 max. a 50 plus fish would need to be at least 48'' long with near 30'' girth or 50'' x 29''. its a good fish certainly. Supper Markets or Butcher shops have scales that are suppose to be certified. Also to be a record you need the length and girth and verification by Fish and Game so I would hope someone called AGFC if they were in hopes and they took a length and girth measurement and have it witnessed, with those numbers it would be a lot easier to know for sure or within a reasonable closeness. And if Cabelas did not have a certified scale I would hope they would put the fish in a fridge, notify agfc, and then get it to a certified scale for proper record protocols to be followed so if it is a record fish it is done right as we have seen a few DQed because protocol was not followed.
