  1. Sure hasn’t been many fishing reports on here lately so I’m gonna do one. Took my friend Chad out on the river this past Tuesday. He hadn’t been fishing with me in about a year and the only chance I had this week was Tuesday afternoon. Which only gave us 4 hours of actually fishing! Me being a usual optimist especially when planning fishing “ha ha “ told him the rain that was moving in would start about the time we leave. So we got on the water bout 2 and was gonna fish till had enough daylight to moter back. Started out fishing a place that usually holds a good one or two and whacked a 16 incher on a jewel finesse jig right off the bat, after that nothing. So decided to moter about 4 miles to a hole that is hard to get to but with the river being up some I knew we could make it. Bout the time we got there and started fishing, the sleet opocolypse hit, and I mean coming on Down. The deck of the boat was getting slick. I was throwing a craw and chad was throwing a ned. We get to the top of the hole and he decides to throw a crankbait. Water temp was mid 40s and I was thinking about going with the jerkbait. First cast he nails a solid 14 incher, second cast a fat 16 incher that weighed 2.6. So I picked up my crank and proceeded to catch some. After about an hour the sleet turned to rain, then a hard rain and the temps where right at 35 at this point. We both had on somewhat waterproof stuff, but after a couple hours it started soaking through. Bout the time one of was mentioning giving in, one of us would catch a goodun. Then we’d look at each other and say this is crazy, then we’d catch another one. Finally the pace slowed down and we started getting cold as the sky’s began to darken. Well we had held up pretty good but a 4 mile boat ride with damp cloths at this point proved to be more than refreshing heading back down river, hadn’t been that happy to see a boat ramp in awhile let me tell ya. Moral of this report is, sometimes the worst conditions are the best conditions, low pressure or whatever had them chasing cranks in mid 40’s water, and good quality fishto, was just blessed to be there. Very last fish of the day was a fat 18 incher! It’s more rewarding I think to succeed in conditions that drive most to stay home. I just love fishing, I love everything about it! Bret
  2. Yes caught 10 crappie that day and a pretty good bass. Crappie we caught was in the 9 inch range. There bigger ones down there
  3. Easy to clean to. Shines like a car with a regular wash job.
  4. I run a 24v ultrex on my blazer. It's a game changer. On my trout boat I've thought about this myself going to a 24v 80thrust. In most any River I've fished the 80 pound will hold the boat with the exceptions of a swifter current River. Like Pete said spot lock is like heaven on earth on rivers. It works best imo in boat positioning in current and windy lakes. It will roam around more on calm lake days. Having a high dollar rig with spot lock isn't a nessecity, you can get an 80 pound standard moter. Or split the difference on like a terrova which also has spot lock. For trout fishing white River the 50 pound. One I have now on the trout boat is fine for me . Good luck. Bret.
  5. I can bring the fish cooker with some catfish to cook one night as usual
  6. I’m for sure in for Friday and Saturday maybe Sunday. I’ll have a boat as well with room to two more with me rick hate to hear this man hope you can make it. And prayers for a speedy recovery when you get fixed up!
  7. Some cool shots I got yesterday after crappie with the helix 9 and new panoptics.
  8. Found some fish today deep on a lake I like to fish. No slabs but there down there. 7 to 9 inches today and a nice bass. Water was 39 to 40. I’m not a lake crappie guy but trying to learn and get better. This was fun!
  9. Me too. Here’s another one he posted a few weeks go. Has some walleye fishing getting a kick out of the Jim Walter commercials bragging on only 10 percent financing ha ha it was the 80s
  10. Agreed. Zona is one of the shows I always Dvr and MLF. Also Bill Dance more for nostalgia than anything.
  11. Fishing shows Have changed some over the years, some more than others. Rayo Breckinridge was a local guy here who was a farmer like myself and chased a dream later in life that took off when he won the classic. His son is posting some old shows on his YouTube page. I watch them as he posts them. For me, he has always been my favorite, a simple format but worked. Many round here what you saw in the show was what he was in person. Here’s one he recently posted I enjoy the commercials as well from this era Kinda a blast from the past!
  12. Yes I bought the ultrex specifically for river use. Spotlock will hold in mine in most places on current river which is swift and the cable/ power steer is a huge safety factor with the foot not getting away from you and slinging you out of the boat at high speeds. I’d vouch for the trolling moter
  13. That’s awesome!
  14. Ha ha ha Arkansas Hammer. He’s gonna like that.
  15. Can’t say ive ever fished on Christmas Eve but with the rest of the family festivities set for Christmas Day my son and I decided to make a trip to the river for a few hours. Didn’t spank them by any means but found some good size ones scattered here and there. My little buddy showed he’s still got the knack!
  16. Great day in the water. Congrats. I love fishing in the winter, love the challenge and love the occasional rewards
  17. Leave the crank in helps with the charge ha ha
  18. Use the timer on your phone camera prop the camera in the seat gives you three seconds to pose before it takes the picture LOL
  19. Prayers Stinger for your journey to kick cancers butt! My goal is about the same as usual to fish more than I did the prior year. I’ve got a trip set up soon with a local river walleye guy, I’m wanting to learn more about catching and finding them in the local rivers here.
  20. Got back out on the river yesterday on about as good of weather you could ask for in December. Down here the rivers have been gin clear making fishing tough, the recent rain from last week put a little color in the water and some places made them murky. The fishing was slow but better than when I tried it a week or so ago. Had to finesse them with small baits. When I got home a had a package of those helgramites that came in would like to have tried those. Anyhow was a great day to be out and caught a few dandies!
  21. Far as I know I should be good to go
  22. Rivers were low and clear where I like to do some smallmouth fishing this time of year so been after crappie lately on the rivers down here. Kinda figured out a pattern last week and got in a few. Also caught a few nice Kentucky’s. Hoping the rain we just got gets some stain in the water. However I’ve been enjoying having a good supper lately with a fish I’ll actually keep a few of.
  23. Plan on trying mine out next week!
  24. Looking forward to it. Sure missed it as well.
  25. I’m in! I can’t go Feb 8-10 open all the other weekends
