  1. Seth, were you getting some jerkbait action yet? I've just bought some hair jigs for some winter fishing. Getting ready for some winter walleye and smallies! Wanna fish the gasconade one of these days. I"m planning on doing something similar on the Current down here within the week, water temps may fall the next few days tho. I'm with ya on the cold water, caught a mess of catfish in the lower current river one time while walleye fishing, think those were the best I've eaten to date!
  2. Cody if your bringing the smoker, what night u wanna set up? I'll be there Friday and Saturday nights and bringing fish cooker. Don't matter to me.
  3. Great report al! I'm getting ready to do some of this myself before long! Getting my jerk baits arranged. Gonna have to try some hair jigs!
  4. He's right Pete, it's pretty fast action when it's right. Keep in mind Ham's not catching these numbers lazily, I've fish with him a couple times now, and he's working at it keeping that jig working. I've yet to experience that great bite where 100 plus is possible, but get ready to bring in a bunch regardless! Love this stretch of the river to!
  5. Ha ha, I hear ya.. I"m gonna top my smallmouth from last year to...
  6. Shaping up nicely indeed, i'm probably looking at Friday and Saturday fishing, maybe sunday to. Got some flathead I caught last month i'm bringing to fry up! If Cody does that brisket again that sounds good, I could cook fish on Saturday night again? Just got my jig order sent last weekend. Think i'm rigging one up with nanofil as well. You can really feel that jig on those long casts!
  7. You bet, this is what this is all about!! I"m with ya on the 40's. But I'm game with anything at this point!
  8. Fixing to freshen up my jig suppy and possibly another jig rod getting ready for the OA trip! May sling a few jerkbaits again to! I have a feeling somebody is gonna land a monster brown this year!!
  9. Here's a link to the full show that just posted!
  10. Nice fish and report.. I"m so ready for winter fishing. Ham, i'll be calling!!
  11. Oh yeah, they are great little cameras. I use them a lot for my own use, and for a local outdoor show, get some neat angles. A lot of quality video in a small package. Use the head strap and wear it on your head, you'll look funny..lol, but can get some neat POV shots..
  12. Sweet video, sweet editing, and sweet fishing!!
  13. Thanks guys. The whole show is gonna air in Dish network Monday night. Ch 266 8:30.. It's kind of a side gig I have now mostly for fun, started showing them here tho, so always save some footage for my page. Yeah, that would be a good spot to Rod and reel for them to. I do that from time to time, but running lines is kinda an old tradtion if you will, but not many do it any more. It's a lot of work, but I like flathead in the freezer!!
  14. That can be arranged Ham!
  15. Little clip I pulled from a piece of work I did. I'm to busy working right now, but the next few weeks should still be good for catching some flathead. When it comes to flathead, I believe in the fall feeding frenzy!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Iiqzl0gha0&feature=youtu.be
  16. Yep, sounds about right, that's how I do my lines as well usually. Depending on the structure around there. In certain spots i'll do what the old timers called "set hooks", might just be on hook in a tight but good looking spot.
  17. Typical night on the Mississippi...
  18. Added a few more this morning before work. River came up 6 foot overnight. Added a nice channel to. Don't turn them back either!
  19. I'll eat blues, as long as there's no flathead available.... When we would give away those blues I was talking about, we'd probably have 200 pounds of flathead in the boat. I've cleaned blues before, and yes cutting out the red helps, it's not bad, but for my taste, nothing tastes as good as a St Francis river flathead!! The water is ugly in it down here, but for some reason fish taste really good in it. If you've never trotlined the Mississippi, and are into that, do yourself a favor and do it. It's an unreal catfish factory.
  20. yes sir!! I prefer green sunfish, or (riceslicks) as the old timers called them, but bait shops round here don't carry them, need to catch them out of a pond. We used to catch 2 to 300 pounds on the Mississippi river, and we'd give the blues to the locals fishing the banks, some of them were actually fishing to try to feed there families. Gave this one lady about 50 pounds of blue cat one time, and she started dancing and said her prayer had come true, it was humbling to realize just how hard some folks have it. sure is Ham, I've had it smallie fishing several times in early Sept, but this is the first time in a month I've had it out. It's all muddy now, broke it in Delta style today.
  21. Trying to catch some Flathead on the lower St Francis while I've got a rainout. It's been tough with the river fluctuating so much. My grandfather taught me how to do this 25 years ago, he's past on now, but its a tradition I plan on keeping going with my son, I try to do this every fall when I can! It's the only fish I think I prefer to eat over crappie!! I know this may be more of a Delta thing, but I know folks on Spring river that tear up the Flathead!
  22. I"m in for Friday and Saturday nights as well
  23. I agree with Al on the Smallmouth take on this. But i'll back you up on the Flatheads, October is a great month for flatheads, I think they really do "fatten up". I've had my best catches in that month on the St Francis here at home. Next time i'm rained out of work, i'm chasing some, that's one fish I don't mind stocking the freezer a bit....
  24. I'm ready for another white river smallie this winter!! lol. Might holler at you this fall if we get done in time. it's looking to be like closer to the end of November this year tho... Keeps up all this raining they are forcasting, I may have to get out of here for my sanity and come to Mt. Home for some aqua therapy!!
