I find it to be some bs, whenever anyone just up and leaves a fish of any sort to rot on the shore. If you're not going to do something with it, don't kill it, cause I'd rather hook up and fight a gar/carp/whatever that someone considers a trash fish, than nothing at all.

Cool, thanks. Guess I have to think of plan B.

I was thinking of going down there this weekend, but by looking at the dates the parks might be closed. Anyone know?

That's the one thing that makes me a bit apprehensive of getting them. My car has over 140k miles on it now. If it holds out to 200k (or preferrably way past that) I'd say I would've got my money's worth out of the rack, and I figure I can always sell it used somewhere (or can I?) if the car does break down. I imagine the installation is fairly straightforward?

If anything I feel they are sometimes a bit too lenient on the regulations end as far as how many fish or animals one can take, but I'd much rather they not be dragged into some political bs. Only other thing I didn't like is that they renovated Jay Henges shooting range and nowawadays they're not allowing ammo that reacts with magnets, which I feel isn't based off of science. They say it damages their range, but everything I've read suggests that's a myth. Steel core ammo on the other hand they would have something on, but not a lead bullet with a bi-metal jacket that has mild steel in it. As far as I'm aware, that's the only regulation they've made that I've got really annoyed by, because they basically renovated Jay Henges, just so I either pay 3 times the price for ammo or not have a convenient and good priced shooting range to use. All right, I'm done with my rant now.

Do you notice a real change in fuel efficiency with the bars when you're just driving around without anything on top?
-
darn. I just happen to have a car that Inno doesn't make any of that for. I went a few hours ago to REI and the only brand they seemed to have that made stuff for my car, appeared to be Yakima. It was about the same, $10 less, but for just the base model. These racks are a bit of a steep climb on the wallet, but I think I might still do it. Any issues with highway speeds (60-70mph) for an hour or so, when having the kayak on top, or is it still sturdy?

Around how much should I expect to pay for everything? And what would everything entail parts wise? I went ahead and got that inflatable thing. Tried it out, and was nervous at first but I had it secured well. It's not bad, but if I can, I'd rather get something I can feel real comfortable with.

Also, anyone have any advice in regards to this item http://www.cabelas.com/product/Boating/Canoes-Kayaks-Small-Boats/Storage-Transportation|/pc/104794380/c/104710680/sc/104608080/Malone-HandiRack8482-Roof-Rack/737541.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fstorage-transportation%2F_%2FN-1100579%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104608080%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104794380%253Bcat104710680&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104794380%3Bcat104710680%3Bcat104608080 here? If I were to judge from the reviews it seems like it would do fine for what I would use it for. Generally would use it to transport the kayak within an hour's drive from here, but with the occasional 2 hour drive as well. But I don't know what kind of durability it has and I have frequent uses in mind.

Hey Moguy, you know of any local stores where one might be able to find those base bars and such. My car also doesn't have any bars and I'd like to set something up on it, but also would like to see what all is involved with doing it, and how the system looks first hand.

Question About Battery Setup
Haris122 replied to Jason R.'s topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Hmm. Never really had to mess with the contents of a battery before. I'll have to check that out now. I've started charging the battery to see how it works, and it seems to primarily be charging it at under 10 amps at the moment. I only had used it once before the boats were put in storage at Bush CA, but it seemed to be at 75%-80% or so of battery power and I'm not noticing that it has increased any in the hour or so that I've been trying it out for. Maybe I need to give it a little more time. I've also read that these chargers don't recharge if the battery is completely dead. How often does that happen for our purposes? And what could I do in those instances if that charger doesn't work then? -
Show A Pic Of The Biggest Fish You've Ever Caught
Haris122 replied to KCRIVERRAT's topic in General Angling Discussion
I'm in the same boat. I'm pretty sure I've caught one or two fish that were at least longer if not heavier before, but as far as ones I actually have a reference of some sort, I think this Blue Cat would be the best one so far. Not a huge blue cat, but at least a bit over 2 feet and the way it took me for a ride, I thought it was even bigger, that's for sure. -
Question About Battery Setup
Haris122 replied to Jason R.'s topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I got me a trolling motor, and battery a few months back, and I kind of had a similar question regarding the battery charger and charging of said battery. So specifically, I got me a "Watersnake Venom" 34 Lbs thrust, 12 Volt trolling motor, and a Autocraft Deep Cycle Marine/RV Battery with it. Yesterday I bought a Black and Decker BC 15 Amp Battery Charger (http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-BC15BD-Battery-Charger/dp/B00KNMKRU8) , cause at quick glance, it looked like both a car battery jumpstarter and battery charger in one. But now that I'm reading through the accompanying manual and trying to figure out how it works, that doesn't seem to be the case. So, first off, does anyone know if that particular charger would work to charge a deep cycle battery? 2nd off, would it be a decent charger for such a task, or would I be able to find something for a similar price (about $50) or a bit more, that does the job better? 3rd, how long does it generally take to charge such a battery with an appropriate charger? Any help would be appreciated. -
Wow, never would've thought there would be a Gizzard Shad in Jefferson Lake at all, much less a record. But I did see a friend snag one at Suson park, and I wouldn't have expected them to be in there either. Congratulations. How did that one fight?
-
Was this on a river or one of the park lakes stocked with trout? I snagged a few small ones on accident a few times, never anything of that size though. I never thought they would actually take a lure or even bait. I did snag (I believe I snagged it) a good asian carp right in the mouth once. Still not completely convinced that it didn't just go for the crankbait, but it probably just happened to be at wrong place at the wrong time. Anyways, cool. I saw a bunch of good sized gizzard shad last winter at Perryville community lake. The cold had got to them and they were all over the shore, even some almost but not as big as that one.
-
How did you hook that one with a pole and line?
-
That's the one by Lemay Ferry/Jeffco and the Meramec? I thought they had a plaque there that mentions the actual lake/pond, was stocked by the MDC, but there's also a boat ramp on the Meramec itself, by the bridge. I never fished the actual park, so I can't say much on it. And I only had a little luck with gar mainly at the boat ramp on the river too.

Both were pretty noticeable and coming directly at the north levee where I fished from. Every so often it would quiet down for a few minutes wind wise, but then it would pick back up. When I was releasing the fish I would have to make sure I walked into the water a few feet in so the oncoming waves wouldn't just smack them against the rocks as I let them go. Good thing I had rubber boots on at the time. Later on I just put them halfway on the edge of the net and that gave me enough distance from the rocks to let them go safely so I didn't even have to wade in. But it was definitely a day for rubber boots.

Went out to Baldwin again today in the afternoon. As I was walking on the levee to a spot the only other people there were leaving, so I wound up essentially having the entire lake to myself. When I asked the guys how they did I got mixed reviews, so I wasn't sure who was kidding and who was serious, but fishing with shrimp, I got my biggest catfish to date, literally on my first cast. I cast out, and as I finished reeling in the slack and started placing the rod in the holder I got a couple bumps. I didn't even put a bell on it before it hit. Anyways, after a few good bumps the fish took off, and the rod started dipping down. I still just had a regular hook on, so I set it and started reeling in. This blue cat gave me a good fight, and in the process of reeling it in I set the hook a few times more just to feel better about it being in there good. Anyways, after what felt like 5 minutes, I got that bad boy in the net, took a few pics, and worked on getting the hook out. By the time I landed it, the hook was almost swallowed. But I eventually worked it loose. The fish didn't seem permanently worse for the wear, though with the wind coming towards the shoreline, it was a bit tricky to release it without having the waves smash it against the rocks but luckily I had rubber boots, and was able to wade in deep enough to give it a bit of a buffer from the rocks to swim away against the waves. I caught a couple more catfish, mainly small channels, along with one channel around 12", and another Blue cat that was 17", but that first fish easily was the highlight of the day.

Sweet. Those are some nice fish. I did some fishing today after work too, but just got a little largemouth at a local county park on the Meramec.

More Ozark Fish Facts: American Eel
Haris122 replied to Al Agnew's topic in General Angling Discussion
I wonder how many of them get eaten on their way back to the sea. Especially the ones travelling all the way from Europe. I keep picturing all the bigger fish that would be having a go at a 3-4 foot long eel. -
I was out at Baldwin lake today. Fished mainly from the levy on the north end that you guys mentioned, and had a lot of bites on various flavors of stinkbait, and worms. They were pretty adept at stealing stink bait I'll say that. All of them were very small channel cats, with the biggest only about a foot long, but at least it was fun not waiting long between bites. Now if I could only get into some of those bigger blue catfish that are around.
-
Just got back from a trip to Baldwin Lake. We had lots of little catfish bite and all the ones we hooked were really small. Think the biggest was barely a foot. All channels. But I will say it was a welcome change to have that much action.

A bit bored and since I haven't seen much on here reports-wise recently I was wondering if anyone has been having any luck out fishing in the winter?
