  1. Tie downs for everything. make sure you have everything tied down or leashed. Jim
  2. I have used one for a couple of years. Only thing I disagree with from above is it works very well in low light like a cave. You wouldn't be happy trying to video a game with a go pro. The dslr recommended above is a much better all around camera. Jim
  3. Coming up from Arkansas you can buy fishing license and trout permit at the little store/ gas station on the north end of Seligman. Jim
  4. I have seen them years ago in Lake Murray near Ardmore OK. Jim
  5. That will make a good dinner. Jim
  6. 10-19-2013 The Beaver Dam store's annual fishing contest. For those who don't know this contest has been running since the late 90s on the Beaver Tail Waters. Rules are simple. You draw a partner at random. Only one fly or lure may be used for the entire contest. Most trout win. This year we had 22 fishermen. Weather was amazing, LOTS of fish, and the Catfish lunch after made most of us ready for a nap. When the whistle blew it was a crazy shotgun start. I was happy no one was jogging on the road right then. As imagined the pairs went to different spots on the river. My partner and I decided to go right below the dam near the first boat ramp. As we arrived there were 2 other pairs there too. We all settled to our spots and almost all of the first casts had a fish on. In our case for about the first 1.5 hours there were lots of fish being hooked by most everyone. Then slow and steady was the ticket for the rest of the morning. At check in 12:00 noon the first 3 places were announced. First place with 29 trout caught and released was a tie. Jim Sinclair and Ken Russell. In event of a tie the winner is the earliest entry and that was Ken. Ken picked the TFO BVK 9' 5wt fly rod for his trophy. This made me 2nd place. There was one young man under 18 that fished in the contest. I gifted him the second place prize. He picked the 7' TFO spinning rod. It was cool to see him smile. He did catch 11 trout in the contest. A close third was Bryce Cadion with 27 trout. Ken and Bryce used a small midge pattern. I didn't ask the color and will update when I ask them. I used a nickel and gold Colorado Spoon. Thank everyone that came out and hope to see you next year. Jim and the Beaver Dam Store crew.
  7. I answered the other post where you asked this question. jim
  8. Yes, all camp grounds closed. Bertrand boat ramp and Houseman acces are still open along with the Parker Bottom parking lot. Jim
  9. I remember reading recently that the little Ring Neck snakes. There are a hudge number of different varities. Have them on our place along with all the others in the Ozarks. Jim
  10. I have seen lots of adult Pigmy Rattlers being raised in Butler Holler. I have seen 2 adults in the last 3 years no less. Thats what it looks like to me. Jim
  11. Dom or some of the other locals. What flies do I need to tie for the Reel Recovery retreat? http://reelrecovery.org/portfolio-types/retreats/ looking forward to this year. Jim
  12. Vertical Jigging with a big ugly spoon. :-) Always a good option too. Jim
  13. The flood did not bother anything from parkers up stream except for the higher water. There was a rock about the size of a small pickup near spider creek in the river. It is now below spider creek island. Unreal how much water came down the feeder creeks. Jim
  14. Lots of trout this week. None of bragging size I know of. Looks like micro jig or a PJs jig with or without wax worms. I caught a few fish thursday floating from the dam to spider creek using #8 clouser minnow in the deeper pools. I tried a hopper with no results. :-( Jim I have a trip on friday and will report back.
  15. Depends on which tv station you listen too. Today The 5 news said he was with another diver. His buddy is the one who called for help. Jim
  16. I floated yesterday afternoon. We saw 1 small school of about 5 just below the Log House when they started generating. They were the only ones I saw yesterday. They started running about 3pm. It turned out to be a great day on the water. Jim
  17. FF, those 6 stripers from below Beaver this year? They have been generating most afternoons. Grab a canoe or kayak and get in the water. Jim
  18. Very cool.
  19. I only know of 2 first hand that have been caught this year. 1 hybred and 1 striper. One at night the other during generation. The water is bathtub clear and it is a relatively small river. They are spooky, usually when you see them they are seeing you too and moving away. I think F&F sugestion about the LARGE rainbow colored baits would be a great way to start. Jim
  20. The laws changed this year. There is no single barbless rule anymore. The "special regulation" area where they have been you can use ANY artificial bait as long as the hooks are barbless. Either fish in the dark or when they are generating. Jim
  21. I am getting reports almost weekly of people seeing a couple schools of stripers & hybrids below Beaver Dam. Comon down and get these monsters. :-) The water is bathtub clear and the fish can see you 50yds away (maybe not quite) . Jim
  22. It is common to catch trout as far down as Holiday Island both summer and winter and generally they are bigger than the stockers. I work at the Beaver Dam Store and talk to people weekly and year round fishing the river. What we need now are more striper and hybrid guys chasing those trout eaters out of the river now. :-) Jim
  23. I like the idea too. It would also take some pressure off the river in the winter and give the catch and eat guys some trout for dinner. Let some of the river trout possibly get a bit larger too. Jim
  24. I went out this morning. I was i the water before daylight. I didn't catch any eye's but did catch13 whites. Good day to play in the kayak. Jim
  25. It is still wadeable in several areas. No boat required. We just had the One fly for cancer tourney last weekend. And all were wade fishermen. Get a canoe or kayak from one of the resort and go fishing. Jim
