  1. Quite honestly that is the reason I fish the other part of the lake, so I don't have To deal with Walnut Grove. Most of my fishing is at Roark/Mutton or CC for that reason.
  2. I've done most all of these different ways in the past, except for Lilley's way. Never heard of using a microwave. May have to try it. Anyway, my personal favorite now is the Zataran's fish batter. And deep fry it. I cooked a mess up the other day in my new turkey fryer. It was great! Hopefully I can get a turkey this morning so I can head to the lake tomorrow.
  3. I can't speak for everyone but i know one thing for sure. The fish I caught today definitely have not spawned yet. My wife and I fished with one of the guides today from state park all the way to high Point. Only caught 5 crappie, all keeper males, with perfect tails. They were in 20 fow on the bottom. Very slow day, but fun. The wife had fun do I guss thats all that matters, RIGHT?
  4. Oddly enough, i gotta agree with both sides on this one. It is true that the crappie can be hard to find right now, in which case you may only pick up a few in a whole day. But if you do find them, like several have been lately, you can catch a lot and fast. I fished in the CC area Tuesday night for about 3 hours. It took two of us about 2 hours to find them, but that last hour we probably caught 20 or so. Just gotta find them, and they WILL bite.
  5. Kwall, to the best of my knowledge all of the land Along the lake is either owned by the Corps or MDC. With the exception of state park and campgrounds, i believe it is pretty much all open to hunting. I heard several gobbling while fishing last night in the CC area.
  6. Thats what I am afraid of too. May have to hunt out of tree stands just to see them. Lol. Did hear several gobbles last night though right before dark. I'm taking my wife hunting Monday and then we have an afternoon crappie trip scheduled with Les Jarmin. Should be a fun day.
  7. Bill it sound like you still did better than we did. My brother in law and I put in at CC about 5pm and fished Springfield cove first. Found out that the trolling motor battery was almost dead so that definitely didn't help any. Caught 5 short crappie in the cove. Finally drifted our way to the back of the cove and the bass were stacked in there. Caught 5 with 1 keeper on 5 casts. Finally moved to another cove right before dark and fished a gravel flat side in 3 fow and caught 15 crappie right away, with half being keepers. All males. Bass were stacked in there too.
  8. I got a feeling I know the coves you guys are talking about too. They are my favorites on the entire lake. I've pulled tons of crappie and LM's out of there in the past few years. That bluff just north of SC is absolutely loaded with bass. My favorite spot. Going tonight, so I will either br In the coves looking for crappie or on the Channel bluffs catching bass on jigs or worms. Either way it will be fun.
  9. Don't feel bad Justin. I haven't been catching the Crappie either. Everyone else seems to be though. I am planning on giving it another shot tomorrow evening. I don't know how far out of the way it is for you, but the fishing at CC (near Greenfield) has been pretty good lately. Lots of timber and brush.
  10. Good to hear from you again Gilly. Jason
  11. 9LB, i apologize if my comments came across as accusing you of illegal fishing. I was trying to point out to another poster that you didn't necessarily keep all you keeper fish. Congratulations on you success, and I hope to soon be able post that I caught that many "keepers" too.
  12. Remember, just because they caught 5 keepers does not necessarily mean they kept 5. However, culling, if that is what happened, is also illegal too I believe.
  13. You know, i have one of the cheaper alabama rigs, and a few carolina rigs. But i can't catch anything on either one. I've decided I am just gonna stick to my trusty Ol' Texas rig! Everything is better if it has to do with Texas. Lol.
  14. Great report. Nice picture too! Looks like I need to get back up there again. Did you throw a worm Any?
  15. Put in at CC this morning at about 8:00 to find the lower lot and half the overflow lot already full. Fished for crappie a couple hours without a single hit. As a matter of fact, i never saw a crappie caught all day. Decided to throw a plastic worm on a chunk rock/gravel/ bluff bank along the channel. Found a log hanging down into the water and caught my limit without ever moving the boat. Caught 7 total, with the best 5 going about 15 lbs or so. Not a bad few hours on the lake. Oh yeah, when I left the lot there were over 60 trailers there at noon, with more coming in.
  16. Thats good to hear. What part of the lake have you been fishing Bob?
  17. Thanks Straw Hat. Looks like I will be going to CC friday if the wind is not too bad. There are a fee coves I wanna hit for crappie, and then I may do some bass fishing. Might be a quick trip, i gotta get ready for our youth turkey hunt this Weekend. Taking 23 kids this year.
  18. From the way it sounds, Greenfield access (cc) would be a pretty good bet. I'm more familiar with that area than some of the others areas, but I will probably be at CC friday.
  19. Just a question for you tournament guys, or Anybody really... I haven't really done much fishing this time of the year, always too busy with turkey season coming. I've always been able to have good luck throwing a texas-rigged worm later in the spring/summer. Would it do any good To throw right now? I am planning on going friday to look for crappie but may do some bass fishing too. May have to try out my A-rig a little too.
  20. Great report Straw Hat. I haven't been up there in a couple months. Planning on making a trip this friday to look for some crappie. Not sure where to take the boat to. Any suggestions? Thanks (thunderin gobbler. I had to change my screen name)
  21. Sorry for the spelling. Still getting used to typing on my new phone.
