Hope all those fish didn't go in the same freezer shad I just don't want you to take a chance of getting fined. That's the biggest mess of crappie I've seen in a long time. Congrats!!!!!!

Not at all buster my point is about changing mental attitudes and fishing tactics to adapt to the waters we fish and not focusing on things beyond our control so fishing is enjoyable

Dave on the table rock forum is the go to guy on learning how to fish the ned. hes taught me alot both by his posts and by pm;s. D as you get more familure and confident in it you wont have to worry as much about hooking them deep but there was a learning curve for me the first few times i thru it too. whether your throwing a ned or any other bait that old fashioned hook disgorged or anything similar is a very good idea to keep in the boat. Crap i deep hooked a small jaw the other day on an underspin with a 4,8'' kietech fatty swim bait on it, its just one the hazards we have to deal with i wish it never happens but it does to all of us now or later, D the pleasure was mine it wasnt about showing you a few things bout the ned it was about getting to fish with a buddy

there are many people on OAF I highly respect and have learned alot from over the years. i dont dare try to list everyone cause i'll leave someone out, but you kmow who you are because i continually read and like your threads and posts. I want to thank all of you for the knowledge you have unselfishly given out over the years.

theres been some threads here lately which when you get right down to the nitty gritty i sum it up from my own experiences in life as this . when I dont like something and or it makes me uncomfortable my first instincts are to lash out at it and want to change it. It never ever worked that way for me and only made me more frustrated. length creel limits are set by the powers to be and theres very little we can do about it. As some members pointed out theres legal and theres moral and to me that is a very private thing i have to live with and i cant force it on anyone else, its part of my individual spirituality. Acceptance has been the key for me. i cant change the things around me but i can change my attitude and the ways i do things. I feel i'm blessed to live in a country where i'm able to get out on the water and enjoy what God has given us. I;m far from being a good fisherman but I continue to try and learn new things. I fish what papi ray calls fishing out the box. i'm willing to try new baits and techniques and i'm constantly trying to improve my technique or tweek them to my needs. For me the key to becoming a successful fisherman doesnt have a thing to do with how often or how hard i work at it its being able to continue to enjoy the sport no matter how many or how big the fish are i catch, I would like to be remembered some day as a Sportsman and it doesnt have a darn thing to do with how many fish ive caught over the years it has everything to do with setting a good example for those around me. My advice to all is quit worrying about the stuff we have no control over and enjoy your time on the water and take a buddy fishing or better then that take a kid fishing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally another fishing report 06.02.15
Sac River Jim replied to Stockton Lake Guide Service's topic in Stockton Lake
Good to hear from you Bob. You did better than me today. We fished from googer to power line to shaw bluff. Water up at shaw was nicely stained with 18" visibility. With it being full moon and still seeing and catching a few ragged tail fish we beat the buck brush to death with limited success. I've stopped by twice to hook you up with the underspins but guess you weren't at home. T/C and see you on the water my friend. -
i read a study from the arkansas game commission on the effects of high nitrate and phosphate counts in their water shed systems and what they did to correct the problem. they said high nitrate levels will suspress a fishes appetite slowing the growth process. i know Straw hat has posted nitrate levels for Stockton and he will know a whole more about what i'm talking about if he sees this post.

Lendall the baptist preacher at Verona keeps a crappie rod on deck when hes throwing a spinnerbait. when a big crappie hammers it he grabs up the crappie rod and commences to fill up his live well.

fishing Stockton lake in late spring
Sac River Jim replied to Aggressor1988long's topic in Stockton Lake
papis bait is based on a war eagle but the advantage to ours is we can customize the blades and skirts to exactly what you want. the other difference is papi uses harder lead and .040 size wire on the daytime baits and same lead with .037 wire on the nightime thumpers so they vibrate better. i'll be around the shop for awhile wednesday morning but will be on stockton in the afternoon. i'll try to meet you there to introduce you to papi. -
why are spots treated as trash fish or eaters by MDC or it seems that way to me, i talked to that biologist too and i for one didnt agree with him but what do i know i just like to fish. i know there isnt a big population of keeper size spots on stockton and the one i caught with bfl2short on fri night was the first keeper i'd caught in over a year but i'm old school, we used to catch football size spots on table rock quite regularly several years ago and i happen to admire the strain of bass alot. they are a beautiful fish and good fighters. When they school up after the spawn they will wear you out when they get to chasing shad. It's nice to catch a big bag to win a little money or to brag a little but I dont care if I catch 15 plus lb bags everytime i go out I fish because I love to be outdoors especially with friends and i feel like it gets me back to my roots and i'm carrying on a legacy passed on to me by my grandpa and my dad. I've said my peace and I'm already hooked up to the boat and headed to Greenfield to pick up a friend as soon as i top off my starting battery and we are going FISHING!!!!!!!!!!

quill i thru a keitech fatty swim bait in the glove box of my boat and it got up against one my favorite pre rap warts and took the paint right off the top of the bait. i gotta start taking more time to clean out the box when i get home from the lake.

threadfin shad as a forage base would benefit the bass population especially the spots. theres a few threadfin in the lake but the water gets too cold in the winter for them to thrive.

fishing Stockton lake in late spring
Sac River Jim replied to Aggressor1988long's topic in Stockton Lake
mam o man did it rain i got soaked through my rain suit. we only had three fish and none after dark bfl2short had two keeps and i caught a nice fat 15'' spot that you'd thought i'd caught on the rock instead of stockton. found out there was a good buzzbait bite in the back of the pockets about dark. i think besides a crank its the only thing we didnt throw. -
mitch good point bk in the late 80's early 90's we used to wait till dark then slip in mill creek bk when bassin shop ran the mill creek derby on the rock. got a ck a few times doing that especially in the fall.

see you up there possum just fixing to hit the road. btl2short and i are fishing it together. good luck and whack em good my friend!!!!! D my guess is 17lbs depending on when the cold front moves in and if the bad storms hold off. -
We go thru this same scenario every year same situation just some different faces. i seen both sides of this many times before and understand both viewpoints but what i dont understand is why it goes on and on for so long. I spend my free time planning strategies for my next fishing trip, watching fishing vids, studying maps and reading fishing reports let alone keeping both my boat and tackle well maintained. Let it go for now i assure ya'll it will come back in the very near future. Fishing is enjoyable this crap ain't get back to what you enjoy and thats fishing and preparing to do so!!!!
-
i doubt if i would have either if i'd taken it off the boat to trailer it to the lake. it was sunny when i left but got nasty pretty quick. guess i just gotta learn some things the hard way.

New Recessed Tray Installed
Sac River Jim replied to Ketchup's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
the tray was the best upgrade ive done to my ranger. it helps me with my balance and my back and knees dont get near as sore. -
my 1158c has water in it too. you can hear it sloshing in mine its so bad. i called and talked to them at marine repair and its gonna cost me 356 bucks to have it either repaired or replaced by hummingbird. they said if it fries bird will give me a refurbished unit. i hit a really hard rain just south of greenfield the other day and the unit was laying flat, screen down with the screen saver on. by time i got to the lake the screen saver had alot of water in it. i was told water can get in the unit thru the power button. the display or thru the connection on the back. heres marine repair's link. http://marinerepaircenter.com/
