  1. same with me i just fished off the road bed and only had 5 keeps but several short bucks. may go back up this evening and fish till dark.
  2. another trick of the trade is you dont have to waste time and gas looking for other areas pull up the MDC fish attractor map find and area you would like to scout then zoom in on it and you can see the features of the banks. a good topographical map of the lake is a very helpful tool too. i posted a topic in the general fishing discussion forum by Ike Iconnelly on the very subject. its a very good read.
  3. one the things i was trying to teach in my posts the last few weeks before the crowds hit was to help develope a pattern and not focus on a single area. i'll give out a few community holes and explain what i used and how deep i caught them because those areas get slammed hard no matter what. the key to using this forum is to take all the information and put the pieces of the puzzle together. once you develope a pattern you can go find other less crowded areas of the lake with similar features and catch our little speckled friend. another trick of the trade is when you get moved in on or followed around lead them to a couple sour holes and i garuntee they will quit following you hahaha!!!!!!
  4. check springfield craigs list i seen a 14' john boat trailer at that boat salvage place in Conway. i just checked and the 14' isnt listed but the 16' is. https://springfield.craigslist.org/bod/4963372571.html also the was a 14' john boat trailer in Aurora for 125 bucks but it don't have a title. https://springfield.craigslist.org/boa/4959999195.html
  5. thats what i was wondering i was on really big staging males on monday but it does seem like they are moving in. monday ours came of points near channel swings suspended at 8' in 20fow. couple more warm days and i believe they will make the move atleast wheres theres 62 degree water.
  6. hammer what percentage of your fish were females coming off the bank.
  7. thnx for the report and it's great you were able to spend the day with your son.
  8. if your headed to ruark bluff so does son sac marina you can buy them by the pound and they are cheaper.
  9. thnx for the report it seems like we have a general pattern developing in several different areas of the lake.
  10. packer i dont know how many times ive see boats put in at 39 and about the time they get it up on pad BAM!!!!!! theres a nice little hump just below and to the right of the end of the road bed ive even seen fools on jet skis run up on it in the summer. oh by the way when the waters up the eye move up on that hump to feed at night!!!
  11. good job getting on them. we did the same thing on monday we started working the banks till we figured out the bigger fish we still staging and suspended at 8'.
  12. my friend Dill grew up on sons creek and he wont even run from ruark to 39 yet, that channel is very dangerous and van get you hurt if your not careful. when the water comes up a little more theres a way to run the flat up there. Bob Bennett and a fella named Willy from Greenfield are the only two ive seen run it this spring. if i was you i'd put in at 39 and fish around the little island, the flat on the west side of the road bed but dont go to the back of it it's pretty shallow and go under the bridge staying on the left side and fish the little pockets and the stumps in the channel.
  13. My buddy Dave and I put in at Greenfield Landing today at 7:00am. WE headed down to springfield cove and started crappie fishing. We had just started catching crappie when two fine gentlemen came into the cove on half pad with wakes so big I had to turn into them. Of course they cut us off so we decided to let them have the cove and we headed down the river to the other end of the bluff to what we call the rock fence. we worked the bluff end and around to small pockets picking up a few males right on the bank in 2 to 3 fow. When we got around the otherside and headed into the rock fence pocket here they come and cut us off again. so I put that spanking brand new 109lb thrust trolling motor on 8 and cut across the mouth of the pocket creating a nice little wake hahaha!!!!! Anyhows we set up in the facing the wind in 20fow right down wind from the point and proceeded to catch nice 12 to 14'' fish suspended at 8'. chart. and blk tube and strollR worked the best. Left there and headed down to the pocket on the upper side of Shaw bluff started in the back of the pocket and worked our way out. Well that same boat that had already cut us off set up on the point right in front of us for the third time. so I put the trolling motor on 8 again and bee bopped around them to fish down the bluff. This time they asked us what we were using and how deep we were catching them. I told them everything we threw at them and some on the bank and some deep hahaha!!!! Fellas the point is the spring run brings everyone and their neighbor to the lake in search of our speckled little friend. It can get frustrating and sometime you wanna give them a piece of your mind or whack em up side the head with a big silver spoon but its always best to bite your toungue and keep the spooning rod in the rod box. some people are just inexperienced and dont know no better. We ended up with a nice mess of 20 crappie with most being big blk males in full spawning colors and one lone wht bass. Blk/chart tube or Bobby Garland Stroll'R in same color on an 1/8th oz white ball head jig with an underspin was our primary bait. we just used a steady retrieve keeping the bait running just above the 8' level. crappie always feed up so if you mark them suspended at a certain depth present your baits just above them so they can see it. water clarity is getting better but theres still a slight brown tint to the water from shaw bluff back up the river. in the coves if you can find a mud line just off the bank target it. some the crappie we caught were holding on the line and ambushing bait fish as they drifted by. from shaw bluff down the water is in great condition but is just a tad bit cooler. surface temp was stable at 61.3 degrees from CC to the rock fence and 60.2 from shaw bluff to point 9. we caught most of our quality fish suspended off he wind blown points or in the back of the pockets with wind blowing in. Most of the fish off the bank were short bucks in 3fow. This thing gonna blow wide open i believe in just a few days and i dont think it matters as much what arm your on as targeting the proper banks like ive been describing for the last couple of weeks. Hope everyone gets a chance to WHACK EM GOOD!!!! TIGHT LINES!!!! SRJ

  15. same here biffle couldnt keep the short fish off my crappie grub. we musta been just below you when that little squaw line moved thru i loaded up waited awhile then decided to come on home. alot of run and gunners around griesser and powerline and they were getting to close for comfort so i decided the heck with it' put in at CC today and my friend dave and i put some nice keeper crappie in the boat. tried to throw a crank and a wobble head but it was pretty hard to pull off the crappie lmbo!!!!!!
  16. yep been pulling some nice crappie from griesser to 39 roadbed best color been chart/blk.
  17. my pleasure farmer. i should have checked radar before i sat the time to have met you and i would have held off till later in the morning. i was kicking myself in the butt because it ended up such a beautiful afternoon. We'll get back on those crappie soon my friend
  18. hawg hunters were at ruark but i dont think there was too many boats in it there was still parking without using the overflow, sons creek was a zoo with all the boats id hate to seen it on the lower end of the lake, a little squaw line blew through and between the boats headed for cover and the wind it got pretty dicey for a few minutes.
  19. great idea on using a hitch hiker Quill. i'll make some up in the shop and try them out. I.ve been using a VMC ewg zbend hook and havent had much trouble with the plastic getting pulled down on the hook but Bo's idea is fool proof.
  20. farmer and i are gonna go do a little fishing in sons creek today, bifle2short we'll see you up there around where you said you was gonna fish.
  21. im going to call you in a couple minutes we would be pushing it to get there in time but if you want to fish with me today we can meet at crossroads and we'll put in at ruark and run up sons and meet up with bifle2short and his buddy.
  22. wrench ive got to get steps put on my trailer so i can get in and out easier. its very hard for me to load the boat w/o getting wet i cant climb over the nose onto the toungue.
  23. thats the exact reason i fish up where i do. most aholes like that would knock there lower unit off there boats trying to get up there bahahaha!!!!!!
  24. thats real impressive my friend. those bonus fish make a good outing in one you will remember for a long time!!!!!!! Congratz
  25. awful late notice is the problem tho. i think everyone in bed so they can go fishing in the morning. oh well i'll just go catch some crappie i guess. i was on a good pattern and was on good fish too.
