Mine are a little bigger that TrophyFishR I use 7" Zman finesse worms cut in half, I also seem to do better with the end with the pointy tail. When they get tore up around the hook I have cut them off and reused the shorter portion and was still able to catch fish it them. I have green/pumpkin, pumpkin & PB&J and for me the pumpkin works the best but that might be because of the water color where I fish. The little pond where I mainly fish can't have many big fish in it I wouldn't think, it's about an acre in size. I have caught an 18.5" and a couple of 14 & 15" ones. Most are from 9-11" but I don't think it as much the jig as the place. I have some 4" Zero Elastech worms and they don't do as well as the 3.5" ones I cut from the 7' ones, the cut 7" one are fatter and I think that might have something to do with it, the 4" are a lot skinner. The smaller hook Gopher jig heads work better than the same weight with the a larger hook. The bigger hooks seem to get hung up more and I catch more fish on the smaller hooks.

As of late I have been fishing the Ned's Rig and only once has it failed to produce fish. The one time I didn't catch anything I was getting bites but no hook ups so I think the pond only had small sunfish in it. I use Gopher jig heads but do like the PJ's with the weed guard on them. I have my best luck with Pumpkin color though PB&J has also produced fish. I bounce it across the bottom. Nice write up TrophyFishR, I am curious how you log or keep track of your catches.

I used 2x4's with marine carpet on them. Do NOT use pressure treated ones. I have heard of guys using the plastic 2x4's too. Over on Tinboats.net some of the guys used composite ones that they really liked. Can't remember the name of them a little more than wood and carpet but it's a one time expense.

Looks like a hybrid to me, you already cleaned it so I guess now you will have to keep it. ;-)

He Can't Walk, But He Can Hold A Rod..sorta.

Looks like he's learning to fly fish. Bet you have a fishing buddy for a long time. question is has he caught any fish yet? -
I will never understand people who come out to enjoy the outdoors and can't pick up after themselves. Maybe it should be a requirement that they bring their mothers with them to clean up after them.

Thanks for the tip exiledguide I didn't know that.

I travel some wanted a rod that I could take with me so if the opportunity to wet a line came up I would be ready so I stopped my my local sporting goods store to see what they had. I found a 50% off sale on Odyssey rods. Had never heard of them before but they looked pretty much like a St Croix Premier including the Fugi guides. The one I was looking at was a 6'6" Med/Fast 2 piece. Not knowing anything about them I ask the clerk if he had used them, he hadn't but friends and customers had and said that they fished pretty much like a St Croix with about the same sensitivity. For $23 I couldn't hardly pass this up so I bought one. When I got home I took my Pflugar President 30 and spooled it with some Sufix 832 with a Fluro leader. Then took it to a local pond that I fish and proceeded to check it out. Outfitted it with a 3/32 Gopher Tackle mushroom head and half of a 7" Zman fineness worm. The sensitivity was great and almost as good as my St Croix spinning rods, might have been the fact that it was a 2 piece. It good a good workout catching 13 fish all bass except for 3 hybrid bluegills. The biggest bass being 14" which is the biggest I have see or heard of coming from this pond. Need to learn how to fish with braid as I lost a couple setting the hook. Even at the $44.95 price tag this rod was a good buy.

When I start turning pink I am already burned and sometimes to a crisp, I'm a slow learner. :-) I have found threw the years that the best way to deal with sunburn is to run tepid water over it to take the heat out of it, you can also sit in a tub of tepid water. Do not apply any of the lotions until the heat has left or you will trap the heat in and make it worse. When the heat is gone, the skin is back to normal temp, you can then apply the lotions for the dry skin that will follow. Since I started doing this it takes way less time to recover from a sunburn. The best thing is use sunblock but we all forget to do it I know I do.

I was at the local sporting goods store today took a look at a Lews Speed Spin 100a. Playing with it in the store it was so smooth, compared it to a couple of other brands, it was beating them hands down. I was so impressed that I bought it and took it home. Came with 2 spools, a regular spool and one that has a rubber insert for brad which also is not as deep as a regular spool. Also wanted to try fluorocarbon line so I picked up a spool of Segar Invisx, #6 and spooled it on the brad spool. Just to try it out I put the reel on a Medium 5' 6" Ugly Stik. Put a practice plug on and went out to the yard to try it out. The plug was 1/4 oz and it's unbelievable how far it would cast. Tonight I want to put it on my 6'6'' med St Croix with an 1/8 oz lure and see how far it will cast. Not only does it cast smooth but the retrieve is smooth also. This isn't much of a test, fishing with it for a few time will tell more about it, After fishing with it a few times this one issue kept coming up. If the bail was not in the exact right place it would rub across my index finger knuckle, it would also just nick the same knuckle when reeling if you didn't hold you hand just right. Amittly I have large hands, but still have not had this issue wit any of the other spinning reels that I own regardless of size. I wrote to Lews and they responded that this was an issue with the SS100a and suggested that I move up to the SS200a after some thought I decided to take the reel back and exchange it for a SS200a. Haven't fished the SS200a yet but did spool it up and took it out to the yard and threw a practice plug with it. I think it cast as well as the SS100a. So if your looking at a SS100a you may want to put it on a rod and see if you have the same issue before purchasing. Guess I will stick with Pflueger for my Ultalight reels.

Pretty amazing stuff if it actually works like in the video. How about coating a boat with it to keep the slim off of it. Not sure about putting it on clothing seems it would clog the pores and cause it to not breath.

Busch Memorial Conservation Area Lakes 3, 4, 5, 7, and 23 Reported on: 6/19/13 Fish Reported: Catfish: Good Bluegill: Good Black Bass: Good Crappie: Fair Temperature: 78ยบ Water Level: high Water Type: dingy Channel catfish good on doughbait and livers; black bass good on plastic worms; crappie fair on minnows and jigs; bluegill good on worms. Please remove your trash. Was fishing Presler Lake in Fenton but the last week or so it has really dropped off. A month ago you could go catch 8-10 nice bluegill in an evening. Now you have to work to catch one or two. Might be different with live bait. Bud Wiel lake (pond) behind the firehouse off 141 has a ton of small sun fish over by the deck that will bite at anything. They are little but might keep the kids entertained. Might also try Westside park too.

Tournament Pro is a baitcasting reel. I have my TP on a Falcon FC-4-166 Medium, 1/4-1/2, 8-17 lb works well. I'm still learning how to use it.

I have a Lews Torment Pro and a Torment which came on a combo. They are both nice reels I don't have anything to compare them to as I haven't had a BC reel in years and last year decided to get back into it. I have never tried their spinning reels, became a Pluegar fan so most of mine are Pluegars. Are the Lews spinning reels as good as their bait casters?

First want to thank all you working guys, your adding the funds to the pot that I am drawing from, much appreciated. I retired 8 years ago this Sept, I can't say I have missed work one bit. The first 2 years was pretty rough, the wife was still working and didn't understand the concept of retirement, she thought I needed a job. When she retired that all changed. I do work from time to time delivering motor homes, but normally it doesn't get in the way of my other activities. It just helps pay for some of my toys and keeps the CFO happy. My current job is testing fishing equipment and checking out fishing spots, at least that is what I tell the wife

I have been thinking of hooking up the boat and heading to Little Prairie CA outside of Rolla. Anyone fish there? How;s the fishing there? Looks like a nice place looking at it from Google maps

Go over to www.tinboats.net do a search in the jet forum there. The guys there are getting a heavy duty foot machined somewhere and I think the price is reasonable. As I recall the turn around was pretty fast too.

We're going to Branson this weekend for a Dream Riders event which starts Friday. The wife and I are going down Thursday, and I was hoping to get a little fishing in. Won't have access to a boat so it will be bank fishing for me. We're staying at the Best Western by Silver Dollar City. Any suggestions as to where we could get in some bank fishing? Don't have a trout stamp so any other species is okay. Will be not be using any live bait. Thanks in advance...... Gramps

Chain Saw Hook Sharpener Diy
gramps50 replied to Clayton Will's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
Nicely done, might have to make one of those, thanks -
Water levels are high everywhere, we just made a trip to OK over the weekend and every river and creek we crossed was out of it's banks or near being out. It would really suck to have a new toy and not be able to play with it. The ramp in Kirkwood is probably open but I don't think I would want to put a boat in the meramec when it's in flood like it is, today West Watson was closed at Hwy 30 which I think was a 1st for this year. The water was getting to a decent level a couple of weeks ago, I saw some boats out in it fishing down by Fenton. Hopefully it will go down again so you can try out the new boat.
