Nice fish, love those mean bastards
-
F&F I had that same problem earlier this year, not a one seemed to make the cut. Here recently has gotten a lot better though, not the numbers I had earlier but more quality fish. Had 9 keeps saturday afternoon near war eagle marina before I switched to white bass mode and then caught another couple keeps while night fishing. Very random though, no particular pattern that I could find.

Caught about 20 whites and half a dozen walleye. One bruiser eye went about 25" and fought like a champ thought I was pulling in a log. There are a lot of fish congregated about a mile downstream of walkers bluff. Thrashing and splashing all evening. Sat in the boat and watched school after school of whites move up stream. I'm hoping this front coming in cools them off a bit because they were definitely spawning, hoping it's not a run and done week and a half.

Awesome, it sounds like fishing is picking up for everyone, what was the clarity like up War eagle?

My two legs will be taking me where I need to go. Another couple weeks till my boat gets in.
-
Giving it a whirl tomorrow, I'll give an update. I'm going to start at twin and work my way down. May try some night fishing under the lights.

I'm still stuck to the bank for another few weeks so I went and checked out twin bridges, Neil's Bluff and blue springs access, saw a fair amount of boats out but didn't sound like anyone was tearing them up. Ended up fishing blue springs and found some crappie around any brush that was 10' deep. Just slow crawling a black and chartreuse tube across the bottom. Ended up with about 6 that could have made the frying pan but didn't feel like cleaning fish. Quite a few small ones in the mix but fun nonetheless.

I've seen a couple jons with 25's or smaller cruising up and down and one really nice inboard jet boat upstream of neil's bluff. a couple of the smaller outboard guys have struggled so I'd be careful.
-
Caught a few more last night, no monsters but two got to make the ride home with me. Same technique as earlier.
-
Jdelow I sent you a pm a week or two ago, check your inbox. I'll probably be out tomorrow evening if its nice
-
Jdoc, I may be out of town this coming weekend for Easter but I think you're right on the crappie turning on shortly. The water has not stayed consistent enough for them to really turn on for an extended amount of time. Heard any reports for your area of the lake? Hoglaw I'll probably be out around there mid week when it warms a bit. Pm me your number and we'll line something up

Fished on Saturday and fought the crappy weather, went out searching for whites but ended up with a few of these guys. Caught them on a shallow diving shad crank in 15fow bringing it in reeeeaaal slow. No monsters but 4 made the 18" mark. Made battling the weather worth it after frying those guys up.

Walked in upstream from Neil's bluff tonight and struck out. Water is cold, thermostat said 45 and slightly stained. Threw just about everything in the bag and caught 3 small LMs. Water was movin quick, about 1.5 ft high on the river. Another week of warm temps and no cold rains would help a lot but the extended forecast didn't look promising. Hoping for the best and planning for the worst.

Hog, I've been keeping pretty close tabs on the runs up the white and from what I've experienced and heard we still have some time. I've only caught one eye and heard of a few more. Most have been caught around pt 12 as of this weekend. A few lurking upstream of 412 but nothing consistent as far as I can tell. Whites have been very sporadic, I've caught less than a dozen up from 412. Did catch a few crappie on Saturday but nothing to write home about. I'm giving the white a try for whites later this week maybe wed or thurs after the water clears a bit, you're welcome to tag along if you'd like I'll be walking the banks
-
yeah it'll be windy for sure, should get those water temps up a little faster though. I'll be out somewhere, I'll post an update

It's not much of a ramp right now though, more like a gentle sloping bank that requires getting muddy and 4wd to launch anything but a kayak. saw a guy go in 6" above his floorboards the other weekend to try and launch his boat.
-
I've seen some guys launch at beavorama but 4wd may be needed. I live in fayetteville so southtown is where i get mine. Not sure where else near there would have any. Should be a good warm weekend, hopefully the fish are biting.

I caught fish from blue springs ramp up to twin bridges both sat and sun. They were keyed in on transition areas that held cover between 10-15 fow. Any where that the bottom went from rock to mud or bluff to rocks seemed to produce fish, now toss in a stump or two and it was almost a guaranteed bite. Sat the bite was slower, fished a black and chartreuse tube 5' deep under a bobber and did well. Sunday I fished a small shallow diving shad crank and white curly tail grubs and kept them around 2-3 feet deep and produced some pretty aggressive bites. small tubes also worked sunday as well. Today should be good with the sun, wish I wasn't sitting at a desk. haha good luck

Found some crappie yesterday, finally found some keepers. Caught over 30 total with the largest still under 13 but I had 7-8 that went over 11. Had a few little bonus fish tossed in there as well

That's what I use almost exclusively, I've owned almost every type of mid level spinning rod and I put them through hell; that's why I'll probably never buy myself a $100 rod because it will eventually be at the bottom of a river. They are affordable and offer about the best backbone of any rod I've fished with.

J Doc I need to see that Lowrance and you know how I feel about those H20's. I'm thinking about heading to academy before the whites start running to get me another.
-
I didn't have a chance to go but the report I got from a friend was pretty encouraging. They caught close to 40 total with 20+ keepers all in 10 FOW around timber on Saturday. Of course they catch the keepers without me. All on minnows fished around 3' deep

Good to know. I tried a new duck recipe this fall that I really liked and thought it'd probably work well for geese too. Cut the meat into thin strips (fajita style) and lightly cover with bread crumbs and lemon pepper. Then flash fry with really hot oil ( I did 435) until light brown (usually only a minute or two depending on the thinckness of the strips and breading) then immediately spread them out on a rack or pan with paper towel to get extra oil off. Very crispy, flavorful bites that aren't shoe leather and dip them in a spicy mayo sauce. Dang I miss duck season already, only 9 months to go haha.

Yep I guess January got away from me haha. probably a good thing a packed up all my stuff after duck season. You like eating those sky carp? I've never tried any and the only ones I ever I shot, I sent home with my cousin.
