  1. A friend gave me this photo of the litter allegedly caused by the Brookdale farms Lantern Fest. The highlight of the festival they launched a few thousand paper bag lanterns aloft, but took no apparent thought of the aftermath since this photo was taken the next day. How can this be permitted to happen?
  2. I finally had a chance to get back to the river this morning. I caught 2 largemouth and a smallie in the first ten minutes and then the wind kicked up. I could not keep a lure clean or my jet pump grates clear after that by11:00 am I was back at the house. River was very pretty and as usual Lady Meramec left me with a smile.
  3. Nice fish, sorry about it slipping away. She will reward you with a few thousand babies this spring.
  4. Lovely bronze back!
  5. Yeah, I hope she is still swimming in the river.
  6. Well said Al. Thanks.
  7. Well the scooter has a new motor. I put it on and was disappointed because it would not plane out . So I extended the tiller and installed an aluminum grab bar and the difference was like night and day. I operate the boat in a standing position which helps me to see on coming logs, rocks and other nasty objects. Very happy with the results. Until I decide to trade my Ranger for a River Pro it will have to do for now.
  8. There are plenty of smallmouth in the river, I must have caught 30 of them on Sunday. River smallmouth are a different fish than lake fish I catch in Michigan. Smallmouth in either environment take a long time to grow. I caught a tagged fish in Michigan. It was 16" long and was 16 years old. I did weigh three pounds. i would venture to guess that a typical Meramec River smallie was a similar growth rate in terms of length. The weights would be different since it is harder in river current to pack on the pounds. I say that to say this. The smallmouth are there but if we want larger fish the bag limit should be changed to be based on a slot length, or a no kill regulation. But if the regulations are not enforced then all the regulations in the world would be of no effect.
  9. The state should stock walleyes in the river. There is certainly enough feed in the river to support a better population. They should also protect the ones that are there with a no kill policy / zero bag limit until the population can be restored to former levels.
  10. I cant wait to get out on the river! I have had a summer of continuous travel and it will not be slowing down anytime soon. I bought a new jet motor and have not had a chance to finish the install. At least I can vicariously enjoy the river through all my friends posts on this forum. Keep them coming guys!
  11. Smallie, then you would have been criticized for being stingy with specifics. Critics will be critics regardless of content.

    PB!

Hog Wally strikes again! Your screen name is appropriate my friend!
  13. I fished there last Saturday morning. I caught 6 rainbows and 3 browns. Water flow was running between 6 and 8 generators. I was tossing rapala shadow raps to the bank.
  14. Nice shot Phil! Nice fish too.
  15. Griz I will try it but it was peeing very good and then it was reduced to a trickle. I will give it a try and thanks for your advice! I appreciate it.
  16. It is a manual start. The pump work did help and the the water pump went out. Fortunately I was fishing upstream so I fished down to the boat launch.
  17. I have a Mercury 25XD jet for sale. This motor needs a water pump and the seal between the jet pump and the motor needs to be replaced. Runs good. Jet pump impeller looks new apart from the sharpening I did last week. The liner still allows for 6 shims on the bottom with a 1/32" gap. I paid 1500 for this two months ago and used it twice. Anything over 500 dollars and it's yours. 850.232.7120
  18. Well thanks to my friend on this forum for all of your help and advise. I worked on my jet to make sure that all the tolerances associated with my jet pump were good. It did make a considerable difference. Sadly the performance was anemic to say the least. To add insult to injury the water pump quit and I used the trolling motor to get back to the ramp. I am done with old motors. 1500.00 dollars down the toilet. Lobbying the wife for a 2014 25hp merc jet. I found one for 4K with 40 hours.
  19. Well said Al.
  20. Over my lifetime I have enjoyed the company of some great fish. Here are some photos of some decent fish caught in the last 15 years.
  21. The are some nice smallies in the St. Lawrence. I was there in May. I was working too, no fishing.
  22. Well obviously that set of regulations is not enforced and should be.
  23. Everyone has a right to use a public waterway, but there should be restrictions on the amount of noise created by a vehicle using the river. If your driving a car without a muffler you are subject to a fine. The same thing should apply to the the river or the woods.I remember in my younger days some dirt bikes were ripping around public woods with no mufflers and now you can't use them in most places. A couple people ruined it for everyone. Last weekend on the river some of those boats were loud like dragsters. If past experience is any indicator, eventually the state will limit areas where these boats can go, and later it will ban use altogether. Not a good outcome since the the majority suffers for the acts of the few.
  24. I have a trolling motor battery under the casting deck.
