  1. Make sure you keep an eye on it. It's raining cats and dogs here right now (I live close).
  2. Looks like a water snake to me too, I always look for that fat, ugly tail on the moccasins. It's a dead giveaway. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://thesnakechaser.com/snakes/Cotton_mouth.jpg&imgrefurl=http://thesnakechaser.com/SC_Window_2.html&h=768&w=1019&sz=425&tbnid=h69chJyfQAgGvM:&tbnh=101&tbnw=134&zoom=1&usg=__6H8GqcONWANTfwKHLyVAyQ6vNbU=&docid=G3nz86Yh5Uiq4M&sa=X&ei=TaivUe73BdKHqQHKnoDYDw&ved=0CEQQ9QEwAw&dur=453
  3. Yeah, Jerome won't be floatable by then. Keep an eye on the flow at Hazelgreen and *maybe* upper G-nade will be floatable. I doubt the Big Piney will be floatable by the end of the week. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?site_no=06928000 If the upper G'nade flow rate drops below say... 1500, you're probably good to go (I don't mind fishing that). If it does, I can fill you in on locations.
  4. I've only been there briefly. It LOOKS nice, but looks like it could get a bit windy (it's flat and exposed). I've heard stories of good fish coming out of there, but haven't fished it yet. There is a really nice boat ramp and fishing dock.
  5. Yeah, everything is gonna be blown out and muddy. I'd probably just hit Bennett if I had to fish.
  6. Once you do go out with a guide, be sure to post back here on your experience. I'm sure folks would like to read about it.
  7. I've gotta be honest, I've got a few handguns, but to this point, I don't feel comfortable leaving them loaded or unlocked in my house with kids around. They've got cable locks on and locked in a gun safe. The shotgun stays up high, like I said, no round chambered. Shoot, I'm 6'2" , I could just mount a gun rack up near the ceiling by my bed I guess...
  8. Simple question, how do you strike a compromise between having a gun ready and having them locked away from the kids? I keep a shotgun top shelf of my bedroom closet. Edit: Daughter is only 2, so I feel like the shotgun being 6ft high is good enough for now. Will need to change it pretty soon though.
  9. Yeah, I never use one out of a yak, but when the potential exists to drop a fish with a mouthful of treble hooks into my lap, I tend to err on the side of caution.
  10. Holy jeez, are you serious? This is bad.
  11. Trying to fish when I should have been paddling was my exact problem. Too confident, ended up taking a swim. Pretty much instantaneous as well.
  12. After several years of zero accidents, in a moment of carelessness, I flipped my kayak yesterday in current. I was pinned against the underwater log I couldn't see, and my sit-in kayak quickly became a sit-in death trap. Anyway, I've fished this spot many, many times and I just thought I knew where everything was at. I was obviously wrong. I ended up being able to drag the kayak out, but it gave me a scare. Be careful out there.
  13. Same for me last Saturday on the G-nade...
  14. Yeah what fishinwrench said. The money for entry would likely be better spent on a guide. Speaking from experience.
  15. Spent a few hours floating from an unnamed ford on the upper g-nade yesterday and later another popular access downstream. Flow is still a little up, but nothing terrible. You probably won't going upstream too much unless you've got mechanical help. Fishing was decent all day, caught several over 15" but no jaw droppers. Most/all fish were caught on 4" tube, drifting behind current breaks. Saw two other kayak fisherman at my put-in spot, maybe fellow OA members, not sure. Other than that, the two stretches of river I fished yesterday were completely deserted.
  16. I have a box of plastics, a box of terminal tackle and a box with a couple ccrankbaits my 3 different topwater plugs, a couple spinnerbaits and a couple jigs. I usually keep a pole with a topwater or spinner tied on and a one for plastics. Anyway, if I go through the season with a certain supply and realize I've never used something, it comes out and make room for something I like or wanna try. All my tackle, bug spray, pliers etc... fit into one standard milk crate. It's the sweet spot for me.
  17. Yeah, and I actually caught so many sharks fishing at night I was about tired of em after awhile. They're fun to catch, but a bit of a pain to handle.
  18. I was down near there last year. I had the best luck grabbing some circle hooks and large sinkers and baiting with cigar minnows and cut squid. Throw out at dusk and standby. There's really no telling what you'll catch. I'd recommend using their rods for sure. I caught eel, shark, redfish, sail cats and various other stuff doing this. I basically just went the the local bait shop and asked for directions to some decent shore fishing. I took all my gear down, and ended up using one pole and a rod I bought down there. If I had to do over, I'd leave everything home, I ended up buying all new stuff to use because my stuff was too small. Not only that, if you do end up using any of your own stuff (rod/reels) make sure you clean it before you come home. Good luck!
  19. I dunno, you may need to pm me the location to that spot, and I'll let you know if it's still worth the trip.
  20. I dunno, I was thinking 3/16th spot.
  21. I bout flagged this post as spam, but I searched and found some context for anybody that's wondering Good luck , I'm sure somebody near you would be happy to have a partner. If you get down my way, you can show me how to catch catfish. I need the help sometimes.
  22. I'm not a fan of the retainer rings, I just go without em. I can make a senko last awhile if the bass aren't too aggressive. I'm tempted to try the heat shrink tubing round the middle.
  23. Well, there is some very good fishing on the Gasconade. Catching 10 over 16" is probably possible, but I've never personally done it. I'm usually happy to catch 3 or 4 that size on a good day and maybe 1 on a slow day. I think if it is a very long haul, there is probably comparable fishing closer to you. Whereabouts are you located?
  24. I know some of my tournament fishing buddies fish left handed and are painstakingly switching to righty because they think it saves time between cast and reel (I guess cast with left hand, reel with right). I'm a lefty, but I learned to use a spinning reel with my right hand and it was natural to stay that way on the baitcasters. I cast with my left, reel with my right, it's pretty efficient. I feel like switching to lefty would be like throwing a baseball with the other hand.
  25. No, they just sent you the wrong one. As Mitch said, it should be on the right.
