  1. Thanks for chiming in. Most everyone in the bow will be right handed, and it makes sense for me to mount starboard for this reason.
  2. I'm sure it wouldn't track as well as a center mount, but it is anything to be concerned about in your opinion?
  3. Not trolling just working the shoreline. Is port easier to deploy or stow?
  4. 55lb power drive 54 inch shaft - What options did you have in mind?
  5. Looking into mounting options on a square bow jon boat, using a remote control minn kota. Reading differing opinions on the internet, on how much it matters in terms mounting it close to centerline. Is mounting close to center that important, or is off to the side ok, but it doesn't track as well? I almost exclusively fly fish so having it mounted off to one side keeps the casting area slightly more clear. Thanks
  6. It's got to be the linkage. Worked fine before I had the lower unit off.
  7. Dang. I cleaned up everything good in the ultrasonic cleaner and then blasted it with carb cleaner. Any ideas on not going into reverse? Thanks again @fishinwrench
  8. I've had a few other things come up that have delayed my ability to work on this. I have two known issues. I got it back together and it won't go into reverse. I know it doesn't have anything to do with the cables/linkage as that all functions fine when I pull the pin that connects the shift shaft. So my gut tells me it has something to do with how I put it back together. I put my new washer on the shift shaft first and it rests on the detent. Next I positioned the shift shaft through the loop in the reverse hook rod. Does that sound right? Next problem. I replaced all the gaskets in the carb and it won't start. It ran a couple of months ago but the carb was leaking like a sieve, thus the replacement of the gaskets/diaphragm etc. I can see fuel coming through the filter, so I believe it's getting fuel. Any ideas on where to start with this? I may be out of my depth with this carb and need to take it in.
  9. I'm not looking at it now, but I think the detent a few inches from the top.
  10. Still waiting on a few parts to come in, but plan on getting this back together soon. My washer was no where to be found, but I did get it on the order. My next question is does the shift shaft go through the reverse hook rod? I didn't get a pic of it before disassembly, and I'm not sure. Thanks again
  11. Copy that. Now let's see what kind of trouble I cause for myself....
  12. Awesome, thanks guys. So, that very important washer is located where all this comes together?
  13. Thanks @fishinwrench. Do I need to have it in a certain position to release? Neutral, reverse, forward? I will try and mess with it this evening after work.
  14. Guys, I need some help. Trying to get my dad's old boat going again and I'm trying to get the lower unit off to replace the impeller. 1990 25hp Merc short shaft. Got the 4 bolts out just fine, but the shift shaft has me stumped. I can't see anywhere on the lower unit to disconnect it. Under the cowl on the topside I see a tiny pin just where it comes into the bottom powerhead area. That pin looks a pain to get in and out, and figured there was a better way or something that I am missing. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance
  15. I don't have any pics available at the moment but I can get some the next time I visit. He bought the boat and trailer new, sometime in the 90's. He put a 25hp 2 stroke merc on it, that he had on another boat. The motor is still on the boat but has not ran in years. I'm not sure of the year of the motor, and I also think it is a long shaft. I can get that measurements as well if needed. He is weighing his options to have the old motor gone through or get something newer. I know where you stand on that topic wrench. Thanks again
