  1. Not for me. I enjoy my no pressure days. I would rather not see a tourney there, but it's a public lake. To each their own i guess.
  2. I AGREE. I go to great lengths to get them back into the water asap. For some reason "water sking" them across the surface hacks me off also. Dont know how many youtube videos I seen where some idiot drags the fish up the bank while bank fishing.
  3. No way in heck am I leaving anything alone for people to steal. I'd rather pay someone to drop me off, or hire and outfitter, All that time on a bike is better spent fishing for me. Heck i been known to pay buddies 25 to take me and the yak. from Springfield lake to Crieghton.
  4. Well, if it warms up some I'll give it a try. thanks
  5. Where is a good take out point from the dam. I have a friend that can shuttle me back up.
  6. They are out there. I seen some big ol hogs takin out of Springfield lake. Seems a shame that they were not released. I for one catch and release. I know not everyone agrees and that is fine. I like the thought that we might meet again someday. Heck maybe that whopper might be the first fish a youngster gets to catch their first time out. So this year I will keep a log of my catches length and weight. Got the reels cleaned and lubed, new line and a mess of new lures. ( one homemade ) If it works I might retire LMAO
  7. My goal for 2014. to land a bass bigger than my personal record 5 pound 11 ounce. I know my favorite area has them, I know I have hooked one ( read the Dr. Evil story ) But never got it in the yak. Dr Evil story
  8. Anyone been out there and if so any luck? I got my fish finder installed and am itching to give it a try
  9. the only reason I use 40 lb braid is I some times toss a zara puppy and have got it hung up. With 40 lb I can pull hard enough to bend the hook and get the lure back. To each there own . If I was ONLY launching frogs, 30lb, would be fine.
  10. their h20 brand soft plastic frogs are a hit with the local bass. I landed more with them that the over priced kvd and spro. I go there first before Bass Pro
  11. I use 40lb braid never had and issue and it casts like a champ.
  12. I've had my run-ins with trollers. Another reason I hate fellows lake. I kayak the James a lot from 65 up and towards the lake. If I am working the banks and come up on some one fishing, I cross the river to the other side and then back once I cleared them by what I assume is beyond twice their casting distance. People these days are just rude and it's getting worse everyday.
  13. Well folks the warm days are a comming to an end soon. I'll be out before dawn I want to go down to the lake but I been loving the up stream action. Guess I'll flip a coin Hope you all have a great weekend. ( Dr. Evil,,,,,,,here I come)
  14. i tried that but didnt bring my dang reading glasses and up close I cant see worth a darn. I couldnt see to get the angle right and was doing more damage than good. I didnt have any options but the Dr. At least I have great insurance LOL. I used the "rope" trick several time on myself and other people. Oh well Dr's gotta eat too LMAO
  15. I am sure to be bashed for this comment but, I believe gigging should be outlawed. As far as I am aware, every fish out there can be caught by FISHING FOR THEM. My opinion of course. I will be keping an eye on these people also
  16. If one person takes the hint and it prevents just ONE person from getting "eye hooked" it's worth the ribbing I might get from people. I also bought an auto inflating life vest. I never wore a life vest, I can swim better than most people I know. I am now taking this "it will never happen to me" thing to heart.
  17. I give up some spots, But there are two I have only shared with my best friend and fellow kayaker. We are both catch and release guys. I learned a lesson here. You post a good spot, what lure, etc, and the next thing you know it gets hamered. I 'll post info about "ok" places.
  18. I just got some yellow lens glasses for night fishing. I aint taking any chances in the dark anymore either. hope everyone is getting out there weather has been great. The fishing this morning was awesome. landed 7 from 5:30 am till am. Just released an 18 incher before the accident. I'll be out again Sunday am, ready to dodge those treble hooks
  19. Strange part is I really didnt feel any pain. getting it removed,,,,,,,not painful, more a little discomfort. Got new hooks on the lure and heading back out in a couple of hours.
  20. I been hooked several times in my 45 plus years of fishing. Fishing topwater seems to add to the risk factor. I wear eye protection and try to turn away from the incomming lure. at least try and block it with my hand or arm. This strike was so close to the kayak I didnt have time to react. I need to overcome the hookset urge when the lure is that close. No one to blame but me. taking a hook while fishing is better than being at work LOL
  21. Dang the luck I was so lookin forward to the free fries
  22. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION. THE OTHER TREBLE HOOK HIT MY SUNGLASSES
  23. I was out fishing today and was on my way to a record day. Then it happened. I had a bass hit about 5 feet from the kayak. I missed the hook set and picture tells the rest
  24. I would be thrilled to find a place to catch some nice smallies. I know what you mean by places getting pounded. Thats the reason I release all my fish. If everyone would do it for just a few years. I wonder how much better our fishing would become. As it is now I dont give just anyone my 'special' largemouth spots.
  25. Hahaha the hat. Hey I always been known for being different. I see nothing but ball caps and camo these days. Nothing wrong with that mind you. I prefer to be different. As far as the tossing release, I am not a big fan of it. But it's better than some people I see dragging them across the ground because they might get a toe wet. Or better yet the ones that toss them in from the bank in two inches of water. Heading out tomorrow with the "HAT" Hope everyone has a great weekend!
