  1. 3 days from Rush to the next take out will not include a lot of goofing off time. Keep that in mind.
  2. Taneycomo is the closest thing to a sure thing that you will ever find.
  3. Three good fisherman in that show. Happy to have been on that same river with them. Thanks for posting that link, it makes me want to be there again soon.
  4. Hell of a day man. Good thing you posted a pic or there's a certain guy on here who would want proof of a day like that. But I've been there, done that (not with that size of fish!) and know it can be the real deal when it is on. Again, congratulations.

    Whites

We hammered them there Tuesday night. Maybe 20 or so whites and five nice hybrids 6 to 7. They were up until it was slam up dark. Last night they didn't come up, only caught three. Did get a couple of nice blues that were bumping the slot but legal, had to throw a nice 12 pounder back. No thermocline and crappie are scattered and tough. That lake is heavenly. Only saw one ski boat, everybody else was fishing and super nice. Love that Osage Bluff area.
  6. Shotgun and a light is a good idea. Put that nasty thing down!
  7. Hey Ham, I was a jarhead too and I CAN take advice, especially when it comes to catching fish. Good report, sorry you had to fight crowd and way too bad about thoughtless guide.
  8. 9.9's run a lot of Shawnee's up and down the White River just fine. So does mine.
  9. If I was wanting a boat for me, wife and a child, the starting point is a 16' x 48" semi vee john with a 9.9. Super versatile.
  10. From the Kansas Department of Parks Wildlife and Tourism website. Most streams and rivers in Kansas are privately owned. The public rivers are the Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri (shown at right). They are open to the public between the ordinary high water marks on each bank. This is the line that can be seen where high water has left debris, sand, and gravel during its ordinary annual cycle. When these rivers flow through private land, permission is needed from adjacent landowners to access the rivers as well as when picnicking, camping, portaging or engaging in any other activity on the adjacent private lands. Except where they pass through the legal limits of a government entity, the rest of our streams and rivers are privately owned, and permission is needed from the landowners to access and use the streams and adjacent lands for any purpose.
  11. Couple of tricks to help actually catch that coon. 1. I still favor canned cat food for bait, the smellier the better. Poke a couple of holes in the can and tie wire it to the back of the trap. They can't just steal it all then. 2. Set the trip lever as close to going off as you can - a real hair trigger. 3. Use a couple of landscape pins to nail the trap down.
  12. You know what really makes me mad? Gravity, that's what. It makes everything seem so heavy.
  13. SSSHHHHH! Stop telling our secrets. Also, it's really funny if anybody thinks they have a secret spot. Every stream is on a map and anybody with half a brain knows they have fish in them. The ONLY thing that makes any stream reach better than average will be how hard it is to access it. And that's it.
  14. Toothy critters too. The most teeth of any mammal.
  15. Maybe next year. The knee deal and all that.
  16. Shawnee with 9.9 on the back and trolling motor on the front but it wasn't in the water. Wife and a big white dog were with me.
  17. If I was going to shoot one with a rifle, it would be a .22 LR or .22 WMR. Might still spray but maybe not. They really don't move very fast and are no harder to kill than a cat but remember there is a lot of fur on them.
  18. I was in the long jon boat. We probably passed one another at least once. Or maybe you got in just ahead of me.
  19. Boney SOB's are hard to clean, that is for certain. But, once you learn the trick, there's a tender loin on them that is pretty fine.
  20. I did Hootentown to Kerr first weekend in May. A lot of flat shallow water between McCall bridge and Kerr. Zip for good camping spots. Gets a lot better below Kerr.
  21. You're welcome. Lews and Pflueger both make 1000 size reels at various price points. Never had either one bind yet. I'm not a $200 reel guy or a $35 reel guy. Typically spend about $100 + - on a rod and about the same on a reel. You will find a lot of really good choices in that price range. Above, I can't say. Below, Berkley lighnin' rods are way good for the money if you ask me.
  22. Keep trying with the cat food. I've caught several that way. Closer to den the better.
  23. Nice fish. I went from Kerr about halfway to Galena. SM were biting but OMG the people, there had to be 300+ canoes, rafts, tubes, kayaks, jon boats what have you. You name it, it was there. We were camping about 2.5 miles above Galena and saw multgroups of way drunk floaters at 8:30 who were going to be paddling in the dark without a light. I was worried for them.
  24. Flat head belly meat and cheeks. Go ahead and tell me what's better. Fish only gets so good and IMHO flathead stands up to any of the sunfish and the good stuff from the salt as well.
  25. Shimano reels are fine as long as you don't them wet. Then they tend to get a little hitch in their get along. I've bought my last one and will be sticking with Lew's speed spins or Pflueger's from here on out.
