  1. thanks for the update, sounds like they are getting closer to loading up in the river.
  2. I am familiar with Blunks, but not Taylor Shoals and I keep hearing reference to it. Is it up river, or down river of Blunks?
  3. 4lb flouro might be a little light if you tie into some sows....just my 2c. I would use 6-8lb flouro on whites, as a minimum. 4lb line would work on crappie just fine, but I have lost numerous whites on 4lb line. Just last week I caught 12 white bass on Flat Creek and 15" was the smallest one I caught, rest were between 16-18". Boat next to me was using 6lb line and was breaking off every 3rd fish. Best of luck! It is supposed to rain a lot this week, so if you go Tuesday, should be good! If you decide to wait until later in the week, I would proceed with extreme caution, that river can rage after a good rain. Last year we had plenty of rain, and decided to go the day after....bad idea. 40hp motor full throttle just to move a little bit. Trolling motor was pointless....so be careful!
  4. Flashmob Jr with 1/8oz ProJigs holding Berkley Havoc subwoofers (pearl white) on bottom 3 arms, #4 willow on top two arms. 1/4 Vibric Rooster tail Pop'r for the top water bite
  5. Nice hog! Mind sharing what you caught it on?
  6. anyone been to steel bridge in last couple days? Thinking of hitting it up this weekend?
  7. so..i like to let a few hawaiian rolls go stale, put them in a food processor with some shredded coconut, little salt-this is my breading Let the fish marinate in a homemade mixture of cocnut milk and apricot jam for a few hours, take out em out and coat em, bake/fry to your liking. For the sauce, apricot jam, mascato white wine, balsamic vinager, coconut milk, salt...reduce over medium heat. Make a relish of your liking for the greens, which I like to include jalapenos/carrots/cabbage. put it all in the tortilla = best white bass tacos ever!
  8. Anyone try fishing for whites in Pomme river along the marked points south of Bolivar Landing. Just wondering if any whites are running around there? I know whites have not been a huge success since the mid 90's, but heard a fella recently saying that they are coming back quite nicely.
  9. I wonder how they would look on a Flashmob?
  10. If he is an avid fisherman, then spending the full amount you have available would land some nice gear. If he is a casual to occassional fisherman...I would hit up Bass Pro outlet, get a $20-$40 spinning reel (or BPS pro qualifier - $60) and then find a rod for less than $50 and then buy him a bag of warts next door. Just my 2c. I fish at least 75 days a year and I buy 80% of my rods and reels at the outlet. I have never had a problem with the reburbished gear there, and their reels have a 3 month warranty. I have had 2 basspro pro qualifiers reels I bought refurbished for over 3 years with no problems. I know some people don't like "used" gear though, but the fish don't care... Edit: forgot to mention, basspro is having a sale on the Proqualifier rod/reel combo right now for $100. the reel alone is usually $100.
  11. CapnDan....I was the younger of the two guys that pulled up to you at the end of the afternoon on Flat Creek Friday (Grizzley boat with 40hp). Was nice to see another forum member face to face! Ended with 20 whites, all over 15"..sure was a beautiful day to be out! Wish I had your luck with the crappie though...until next time!
  12. Caught all the LMB on a-rig. A-rig is the only thing I need in my boat until about end of April. It will catch anything, lol. I did throw a chrome sexy shad rattle trap, threadfin shad stick bait, and yamamoto crank bait (chart/black) in the muddy water. 9 hours of fishing, and a-rig was the only thing that produced. It was producing so well though, that the only reason I threw the other baits was to see if the fish were just hitting anything in sight, or if the Rig was pulling em out. It was the rig.
  13. Hit the water about 10:30 at Bridgeport...Went to point 15, and fished from there up to the bend before the bridge. caught 3 short bass. Cruised up past the first flat beyond the bridge, and started catching more short bass. Caught 1 White (16.5"). Went to the James river arm, no luck there except a few short bass. Came Back to Flat creek Arm, just around point 15, fished the bank all the way to bridgeport and caught countless black bass...I literally lost count. Did have 1 double hook up on the A-Rig though, that was fun...but it was no comparison to the single hook ups of white bass we were about to experience. About 3pm, we were back in Flat Creek, throwing the A-Rig with Berkley Havoc Subwoofers, pear white. Wind was blowing. We put 20 whites in the boat in about 2 hours, then they just shut off! Was a great day overall though, saw a few forum members, saw a lot of fishermen, and had a fun day on the water.
  14. I found these wacky heads at bpro, seemed to rig up alright. I used super glue, and squeezed the cut end and cut the bulge to make an "insert". Although the shank is shorter, the hook sticks out a little more, I hope this works alright.
  15. Very nice, thank you for that! great tip, thanks! You guys are real pro, sharing your tips and tricks. I, for one, really appreciate the experience you share!
  16. how much "worm" beyond the hook is needed to make them effective? Just enough for wiggle? if you have a 5" worm, and you cut it in half, then 2.5" worm on a 1.5" shank leaves 1" of worm free...is that enough to make these effective? I was using a whacky rig jig last week just because the hook was short, and it left plenty of worm at the end. With the superglue, would you just put it on the shank, by the bese of the jighead, or just on the base?
  17. thank you for that tip...I was trying to find heads with keepers of some sort. I was really beginning to not like the Elaztech because it wouldn't stay on any of my jig heads, trying to get the Elaztech swim baits (for a-rig) on a jig was near impossible, and they can't be stored with other plastics. With that many strikes against them, I am wondering if it is even worth the effort/price....and now I need superglue to make them fishable??
  18. do these keep the 1/2 senko on well? I used something similar this last Friday, and the elaztech worm kept sliding up the shank ever time I reeled it in.
  19. I was in a blue and white boat with a small 10hp motor with a buddy. We were both throwing rigs...and we were both tearing it up.
  20. Went up Flat creek beyond the bridge looking for whites. Starting off throwing the A-Rig and started catching Black bass and smallies, so just went with it. Ended up catching 27 fish that day...2 Small Mouth, 2 Whites, rest LM. I did catch 2 on the nedrig (1st time trying it out,2nd cast caught fish), and a few on RCStick. Excellent day to be on the water.
  21. I am not expert in this area, but I would check out http://www.missourimuskies.org/ . It is a Pomme Chapter, and they sometimes do muskie fishing seminars for a small price, but you get to go out and learn how to fish for them with intent instead of catching them by accident, which is what most people do on a crank bait, spinner bait, etc. another website to check out - http://www.pommemuskieguideservice.com/
  22. when you are heading to bolivar landing, there is a dirt road to the left just before you get to the boat ramp. If you go down that dirt road, there is access to some fishing docks, and good bank access you could get to for some crappie/bass. I have seen a LOT of crappie caught over there. Pomme is a great lake for crappie. If you are looking for whites, Pomme hasn't had the best luck with those in the last few years. I am not saying there are not White Bass there, but if you live in Bolivar, you would have better luck heading over to Aldrich and fishing there for whites. I have caught an equal amount of cats at Pomme and Stockton. Both are great, and if you can get smoe live shad with a cast net...you will be better off. Catfishing doesn't usually pick up for me until I see shad balls though, with the shad being 2"+. You can probably catch them year-round with the right approach, but I prefer late June through November for Catfishing. Pomme has some really good bass fishing too. You will obviously have more success in a boat where you can move around the lake a bit...I cannot help you with the best bank access for that. Pomme is also a great fishery for Musky...just saying. Hope you have some good success this year, and welcome to the area and forum!
  23. would academy or bpro have the right jigs for the ned rig? I read other posts where people are making their own...i don't have that set up. I know it needs to be a #2 hook?
  24. I am heading to Cape Fair this Friday for some fishing, thought I would swing for some whites/crappies. Any advice or tips would be welcome. I have seen some of the posts previous about a few catches here and there, but hoping this warmer weather will make em a bit more frisky this weekend around the James river mouth and in that area?
