Fuel Cost Just How Much Money Are You Locals Spending?
Josh Holt replied to Bill Babler's topic in Table Rock Lake
I got it easy i can can go with gas in the truck all week on 40$ and 20$ in the boat but i cant run as far as the big boats but i will know what its like again cause im buying another bass boat in the spring since i had to sell my old one to pay for bills when i had my accident last year. -
There are many different ways to catch fish in the summer time and early fall, but every guide and bass fisherman have different patterns that they use to target fish. I just go to what i have confidence in and the patterns that have worked for me for years. Yesterday i found bass at all kinds of depths and stucture they were hitting thats all i can say. We started out doing some deep cranking around some trees and brush that produced some fish all shorts to small keepers. Then we switched to a jig picked a couple up on that but what dominated the day was a big worm and a beaver in the brush about 12ft to 25ft our better fish were out of the deep trees and brush piles. Caught about 30 to 40 fish from 3pm to dark with 8 keepers the biggest was a 3 1/2 to 4lb fish. It all boils down to if your trying to catch fish with new baits and can't get any go to what makes you feel confident go to your confident baits on your baits you can catch fish on. This is my stratagy and it has always paid off for me. Make multiple throws at cover with multiple baits. Thats how i caught the fish in the picture was fishing brush i went through four different baits before i found one he wanted and when he did i caught several more fish out of the same spot. But you just got to fish and see what works for me it is still a big worm bite and creature baits have been putting more fish in the boat for me then anything.

If you get a boat with a trolling motor i can show you how to drift fish right now for them with a carolina rig and big live creek chubs, I went with one of my friend the other day and we caught 11 channels biggest probly 6 lbs but we were only out from daylight to about 8 am draging them on the edge of the flats. -
Good post I have only met bill once but he seemed like a stand up guy with a winning attitude and from his post he is a great guide and always is on the fish.
-
we just shoot them with our bows its much more fun and a lot faster. If you find a big school you can easily kill 20 to 30 of them in an hour. they are also good eating but you better have a pair of tin snips ready cause your going to need them.

I fished with my brother today around cape fair from 430 to 83o we caught aroung 25 fish total 8 were keepers with the biggest around 4lbs. Long flat points with drops and humps have been producing a good deep cranking bite for me, their is also a square bill bite early in the morning and late afternoon with a pearch color works best. Most fish we caught today were 20 to 30ft range caught several on cranks but all our keepers came off a big worm and a pig rigged beaver the big beaver I dont drop shot much cause all i can manage to catch on it is all short fish good numbers but they are all short, The colors of worms we have been useing are plumb candy, tequela green, watermelon candy red, and have been picking a few up on the tomatoe red worm in deep trees. I try anymore not to go for the quantity but quality fish. I fished the firday night tournament the 12th took 5th out of 20 boats and fished it last friday had five good keepers but they were not good enough lol. But all i can say is if you can find brush piles in 20 to 30ft range that are not put in by the conservation department they will hold the biggest fish cause their not beat to death by all the fishermen on a daily basis I know where some are but giving the location of my brushpiles is like asking a women her age or weight she is just gona lie to you lol but find brush and you will find good fish. Target them with big worms or beavers make multiple cast from different angles with different baits and colors some times all it takes is haveing that bait at the right angle to get a hog to nail it.

If i can get a mold for it I can pour it i havn't threw a ned rig yet send me a pic and i can tell you if i can.
-
I'm not a guide but im on the water all the time at night and if your in the capefair area throw texas rigged ole monster worms in candy bug junebug red black emerald and the salt craw bite is very strong right now texas rig a big critter craw by zoom in either black emerald or june bug and you will catch the fire out of them on any 45 degree chunk rock bank or brush piles. Brush hogs in the same colors are working great as well in brush. I'm going down tonight about 5 and fishing till about midnight that is when i have been fishing from every time I go and usually end up with a 40 to 50 fish day but my biggest are coming after dark with several being 5 to 6lbs.

I also tested the style with less strands on the jig vs the way I normally make my jigs. I was useing green pumpkin purple both same weight just one with less skirting. My conclusion to this is that niether drawed more strikes then the other one did went fish for fish on several different banks but I did test one more thing how long they would hold the jig before they droped it, the jig more skirting won that aspect with them holding it a lot longer before they dropped it. Most with the jig useing less skirting would hit it quick and drop it when alomost all the fish that hit the jig with more skirting would hit it and hold it. I credit this to the bigger softer profile of more skirting causeing them to hold it giving you more time for a hook set.
-
These style head also made with gamakatsu hooks.
-
Here are some heads I make with the to coated wired, the two wires are not stiff they flex but don't bend just made 1000 of these heads up but I like these heads with this style od gaurd then i do the bristle style. Getting ready to start makeing up some jigs.
-
-
or so i was told but it makes them look good anyhow
-
Instead of trimming the weed gaurd straight I cut them on a 45 degree angle at the hook point makes it softer for the hookset.
-
I like them with just a bit more but because of the rate they fall. But I think with the mop style jig gives it a bigger profile reducing bites from smaller fish. But these are the style jigs I have made for years now and had good luck with them but everybody likes their own style of baits made from different companies kind like if i go buy a jig in the store instead of makeing them it will be a jewel jig every time lol but that is something to think about I think I will test it out I think i will make a few with less skirting and see wich one catches more fish and let you wich one i like better or produces more fish for me.
-
I was thinking of maybe makeing a bunch up in different colors and letting some of the stores around here put them on the shelfs and see how well they sell or just giveing a few to some of the guides around here and letting them give me their opinions and maybe doing what pigsticker and hazie dazie done start small. I also make spinnerbaits in any color only in 3/8 and 1/2oz but it would be a good way to get the word out on my jigs and spinner baits is just to market them through some tackle stores around here but im not trying to step on any other companies toes just trying to make fisherman happy when they can't find the jigs and colors they want.
-
Jerry I do trim them back on a 45 degree angle lol thats the last step when i get a batch done I made around 50 of these today 25 of each I also did some with black weed gaurds cause i ran out of the green, I also do make some with two coated wires coming out of the front in a v so the hook is right between them, I like those better cause you get way better of a hookset and don't have to jerk as hard but these here were made for a friend of mine.
-
I used three per each jig two of your base color and one of what ever you want such as green pumpkin purple two of green pumkin one purple has the perfect amount of skirting or to make three colors use one of each color. I throw a jig alot and I have not found a rubber collar that did not dry rot and cause you to loose your skirt. Plus the pro of useing wire is the fish don't pull the skirt down causeing your collar to get damaged now the down side of useing the wire is you cant attach a rattle unless glued to the hook but I don't use a rattle very often. But as far as it makeing a difference on getting bit it doesn't matter if you have wire or rubber collar it's all in how its fished.
-
I tied them with black wire from fin and feather they also have it in green but I have a ton of this black wire left so I just use it. I dont like to use rubber collars cause the dry rot makeing the life of your jig shorter and they get tore up from fish. I can make 50 jigs an hour once i get the heads poured but i have got over 1000 heads poured up.
-
These are a couple jigs I just got done powder coated heads green pumkin with gamakatsu hooks. The colors I made today are green pumpkin orange and green pumkin purple fleck with some purple thrown in the mix. Let me know what you all think of these and give me some feed back on what you would change about them or just other colors cause I can make these in any color and any size these are 3/8oz but can make them from 1/4 to 1oz. I can even put eyes on them.

You might try farther up the river arms like walnut springs or even go up to blunks at galena or horse creek on up in the river if your looking for numbers go to the river the further up you get the more fish you will catch I grew up right on the river below the natural arch the water was walking distance from the house. There is some good catfishing up there with some of the best smallmouth fishing on the river. -
no you can buy this color in a spinner bait from stan sloans zorro bait company but you can't buy it in a jig so I made it and plus I dont fish tournaments anymore I fish just for fun so it doesn't bother me to give something up once in a while lol
-
Yeah that dock has been a good place to have fun or just take your clients to catch good numbers with some decent keepers but mostly kentuckies I have been catching most of fish on the big worm in the afternoons when the water starts to get shaded. We have been catching some good bass on the jig as well in the green pumpkin purple or orange with a baby brush hog as a trailer in the 1/2 oz size in the day time but when the sun goes down I got my own color jig I have been murdering big bass on and im the only one I have ever seen throw this color of a jig and I tried to immatate a junebug color and it flat works, It is a black red and junebug skirt with a purple emerald twin tailed grub on it and we have been putting some big fish in the boat with it on those 45 degree banks from bear den down to piney is as far as i have been. I Make all my own jigs these two I didnt powdercoat the heads but they ysually have a black head. Its cheaper for me to make these jigs in any color I want than it is to buy them. I can make a jig for around a dallar from start to finish so I just make them.
