  1. If you're talking about TenKiller, there was a road on the west side that dropped down to the tailwater. It has been many years since I've been there however.
  2. I hear you. I even miss the swinging bridges. Don't forget the lower Pomme De Terre that's under Truman. Fred's Fishing Camp at Fairfield. It seems to me that as many people recreated on the Osage, Grand and Pomme as do Truman now. I know that's likely not true, but they were busy areas on weekends.
  3. I've never lived at Truman, but have lived in your area. If it were me, the dam, the lake, the vast amount of public land for hunting and the chance to be debt free would have me putting up a For Sale sign.
  4. Coyotes have no problem with civilization. LA is reportedly full of them. I don't see any advantage to the MDC or taxpayers wasting money looking for big cats. With hunting laws as they are in the west their arrival in this are is guranteed. The thing is however, they have a very large hunting area and they are very shy creatures. In the years I lived in OR I never saw one, despite a lot of time in their backyard. My BIL, who spent more time than I in the woods, saw one, while he was fishing a somewhat remote lake. What would be the advantage if one was confirmed? It's not like you can go watch one.
  5. I lived in Mtn lion country for 13 years. I've had them come through the barn lot, tracks not the animal, and seen tracks when elk hunting in the snow, never attacked. Oregon stopped hound hunting years ago and a population of 3K went to an unknown. Its not uncommon for an old cat or a young tom being driven out to go through town and the little kittys and dogs pay the price. Occasionally a llama or calf gets eaten, but with a verified population in the thousands, no kiddies. Cats don't leave their territory voluntarily, they are driven out because they old or young toms and biologist don't believe they travel any farther than the food supply forces them too. Its not likely many cats are going to end up in MO, much less in a city without a large deer herd, their steak and potatoes.
  6. Cassel is to slow coming around for me, but then again this is his first starting QB job that wasn't by default. I might be wrong in saying his first because I don't know what he did in high school.
  7. What's the difference between a stocked stream and a stocked tailwater, other than the tailwater fish being bigger and a little wilder.
  8. They generally don't chase anything in town, to many little yappers to snack on that don't run that fast.
  9. Its been many decades since I was around either of the Blue's, but why the Little? The Big Blue was good fishing south of 95th. It was too polluted by Bendix north of there, but I don't know what civilization has done to it south. If the area behind Mt. Moriah was accessible I would think it would be worth a try.
  10. I waded the White above Branson a few times right before TR was born, but I don't have any memories that stand out.
  11. I wouldn't have called it a bass lake, it was pretty cold. The main attraction was paddle boats. It was on the lower end of what is now the last trout area. There was a strip of wooded, and very snaky, stream from the F bridge to the lake. I don't remember the length exactly , but probably 100 yards, maybe a little more.
  12. At some point you'll have to cross the Niangua in the shortest route to the Gasconade, you might want to consider stopping and fishing it.
  13. I wouldn't overshoot the question guys.
  14. There's the normal population of minnows in the river, but matching the hatch doesn't seem to be necessary. I've had some luck on shad imitations, even though there are no shad in the river that I'm aware of. I'm sure th silhouette and color is the key. As far as "perch" go, pumkinseed, black and goggle eye are common, but the highlights of blue and orange are probably most important.
  15. And oak. Pine were the dominate species and they were reasonably wild fire proof. Pines don't lay down a mat of debri that burns like leaves and their branch height gives some protection against fire climbing into the mast. Their seeds also benefit from fire. Realistically fire isn't the enemy of the forests survival, man is.
  16. The main forage at this time is primarily fish, and it will remain that way until the water warms. It does change, they exploit the resource like all predators and take what they need that requires the least amount of expended energy.
  17. Same here. Bit to answer your question, salmon and steelhead can so one would have to assume trout can. There's also the fact that they will come to a still bait.
  18. No. I think your etiquette rules might work for you but some are ridicules. We don't have waters like they do farther west and ours get a little crowded sometimes. I take offense to people holding a fish out of the water for 15 minutes so all his buddies can get their pictures taken, or watching a snagger at outlet two, some "Johnny come lately" telling me how I should act on a crowded stream then I do the guy out trying to get his piece of the stream in a less than ideal situation. You want etiquette, fish the tailwater at Table Rock.
  19. Some of you holier than thou fly fishermen seem to think that the lesser spin fishermen should get out of your way. There's not that much room at Bennett and you take more than your share, maybe you should give the spin fishermen a little credit for putting up with you!
  20. Eric, FYI you have to take the boots off first. 3/4 inch, hmmmm? I heard or read that they thought there was some Didymo below Powersite, but I don't know if it was confirmed. There was spot there that cut line like a razor blade, or zebra's.
  21. If they want a twofer this season they will have to buck up this weekend. If neither they or the Sooners stumble again they will meet again. Actually at this point the Tigers can survive a loss if they beat the corndogs.
  22. What about the Ozark Bass?
  23. The run from Orla to "B" has a lot of deep pools that seem to hold a lot of G Eye's.
  24. So I've heard.
  25. Done it for decades and I think I have 5 CI and 2 AL from 5" to a deep 12". They aren't complicated unless you make them so. Start with the old standard briquette count and adjust accordingly if needed. The key to biscuits for me is actually treating the DO like an oven. If you cook the biscuits off the bottom in a biscuit pan and at the right temp, they aren't hard to make. Terry I would avoid chili or anything with tomatoes in it until its heavily seasoned. The easiest way to speed up the seasoning is to set the oiled oven in a time bake oven for 1 hour at 375. Do this overnight so that the smell isn't noticable and the oven can do a long cool down. I do this 8-10 times even while I'm using the oven. You can't have too much seasoning. NEVER wash it with anything but hot water, and a plastic scour pad if needed. A dish brush is more than enough most of the time.
