Buffalo Canoes
Wayne SW/MO replied to smallmouthjoe's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
You might call and see if they have a demo, they aren't far from the Buffalo. Is the 14' too heavy? -
you might check Barlow tackle, they have a web site. They carry quite a few molds. Powder painted heads look good, but they won't catch you more fish than painted.

I think the original owner shut it down when he couldn't sell it. I'm not sure how long it was down, but I don't think it was very long. I've had mine 4 or 5 years and I can't complain, its light at 39# and has a very good secondary stability. The initial stability is mediocre, but that's the price for a narrow beam. Its very agile and of course because of that it doesn't track well, but I get around a lot of that by using a double paddle.

I don't carry a big variety. Jerkbaits= Xraps, Top water= Sammy's, Plastic= Senko's, some tubes, and some Slider worms, Jigs= Lots of jigs. I carry a few cranks, shallow runners like the Shad Rap. The tubes are a last resort, too many get swallowed.

As for the Blazer, I think I can do it in two, pollution and rust. I Elk hunted with a buddy who drove an old K5 that had been around the world several times. I took a pickup camper on a F 250 and he pulled a trailer, about 22' I think, up into the mountains. The next morning it started to snow and didn't quit until it was 12's deep. When we left we had to take a one lane logging road down the side of a mountain. It was steep with few pulloffs for traffic and no guard rails. I went down first so that if he didn't go off the side but blocked the road I could come up and get him. It was a white knuckle trip in 4 low and I tried to get him to leave the trailer and we would come back later and get it, he wouldn't. In the end he made it down, but I think he had more guts than good sense.

Favorite Trout Stream In The Country....
Wayne SW/MO replied to ozark trout fisher's topic in General Angling Discussion
The Deschutes in Eastern Oregon, home of the Redband. The Salmonfly hatch is especially memorable. -
The American Sportfishing is also questioning it. I don't know about Trout Unlimited or Steelheader.net, I haven't heard. I think the bottom line is that without any reference to the huge support of the environment they are speaking of by the sport fishermen, fishermen should question why? There's a lot of concern by profit and non profit organization about this, but the bottom line is, no matter what their reasons are, if they lose we lose. I don'r see any other way to look at it.

I've had 3 Wranglers and a CJ 5. They all got about 16 MPG. I didn't have any mechanical problems with any of them, but I'm a stickler about changing the oil at 3000. I pull bass boats with them, not a real heavy one though. Tires last forever. Of all of them, we had one to 95K. They'll turn on 6 cents. They can be cold in the winter, mine were all soft tops. They don't have a lot of room in the back. You might squeeze a buck in there if its not stiff. They aren't good in deep mud, they aren't heavy enough to sink to solid ground. Would I buy another, probably not because my present Liberty is very close to the Wrangler in overall usefulness, but bigger and a lot more comfortable. It also get 20 MPG.

Another thought is too check out Buffalo in Arkansas. They had a web site so you might check and see if you would be interested in their solo. I would then contact them and see if they have a second at a good price. They aren't that far a way and you could pick one up on an extended fishing trip.

Jugs baited with small perch should get you some out of TR.

That's what really counts.

How To Prepare And Cook A Fish
Wayne SW/MO replied to fishouttawater's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Why would you not have some foil? It weighs nothing and takes up less room than a handkerchief. -
The Fishing Fool beat the San Diego. We should probably, myself included, remember that the Knot Wars test was based on three types of lines and a knot that held at a higher weight on two won. The difference could be in tenths of a pound, but if it was higher it won. The Palomar is a great knot, but can be a bear to tie in a hurry. Any knot that is very close to it in strength, and easier to tie is worth trying.

Wait until May, the weather goes beyond rain then.

They are predicting 80% chance in the watershed for Tuesday and 40-60% Wednesday and Wednesday night. Of course rain isn't the worry, its the volume.

Depending on what equipment you have, pouring your own can be a better alternative to buying. Two of the biggest advantages in my mind are , you can adjust the guard to some degree and make it less stiff, and you can change the quanities to meet the situations. If you have to start from scratch its probably too expensive. You might post in the buy-sell section to see if there is someone who would pour for you.

The Obama Administration's Change
Wayne SW/MO replied to bigredbirdfan's topic in Conservation Issues
I haven't bashed the current administration, I could on many things reflecting my personal beliefs, but I believe I've concentrated on the Task Force. I don't believe in disagreeing in principle, but in facts. That" why I stated I don't disagree with what appears to be the goal of the directive. It does disturb me that to date the direction appears to ignore the fears of the sport fishermen. All to often I've seen what appears to be a benign agency turned into a threat by a either a new director or a few underlings who have a different interpretation of the original. As far as BASS, NRA, and other organizations that tend to lobby for what I believe in, you bet I support them. Without them I'm afraid the PETA's of the world would put an end to fishing and hunting, period. I say this not because I'm suspicious of their goals, but because that is what they lobby for and it is their goal. If you know of a better way to counter their efforts on behalf of the hunters and fishermen in this country, please share it with us. Do you think I want something different then you do concerning the future of outdoors sports? -
Stickbaits, Paint, Clearcoat, Hooks Question
Wayne SW/MO replied to abkeenan's topic in Table Rock Lake
I have dozens of Rogues, a few Pointers and a lot of X Raps, I haven't thrown anything but the Raps in a couple of years now. -
I have been using it about the same amount of time. There is a learning curve, or at least for me, but its not that hard to tie really. I like the fact that it doesn't use a lot of line like the Palomar, nor does it seek out trebles. The one thing I have noticed and change from the direction I had, was in the original tightening of the knot. If I tighten it before pulling it down to the eye it tends to heat. I've found that pulling it down loose and then tightening when it't close to the eye avoids this. I've used it with hybrid and braid.

Wayne SW/MO replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
If the gates are open pulling water from the surface, would the O2 drop that much? -
There are always current breaks for the fish, and many will simply hug the bottom where the friction slows the current. This isn't new, in fact that's why the Riverside is wanting to close, too many floods, too often.

Doesn't look good, the Big Piney is flooding, and here's a cousin creek stats. Roubidoux

The Obama Administration's Change
Wayne SW/MO replied to bigredbirdfan's topic in Conservation Issues
So you believe their interest is illegitimate? I'm still not sure why some are so sensitive to the fact that Obama initiated the task force. There doesn't seem to be much, if any, opposition to the goal he seems to have been seeking. The manner in which the Task force is moving is where the rubber is meeting the road. I've been a member of BASS and the NRA off and on over the years and I believe it was money well spent considering the voice it gave me protecting my outdoor recreation opportunities. I often criticize the MDC, but that doesn't mean I don't think they do an outstanding job overall. If our interest aren't lobbied by organizations that equal those working against our interest, we're in trouble when it comes to our outdoor recreation.
