  1. Nice speech CWF, inaccurate but probably works for many. Many years ago the NRA pushed hard for an automatic 25 year sentence added on to any conviction involving a gun. It got no where because it was too harsh, as if shooting someone or sticking a gun under their nose wasn't. The real reason for increased gun sales is that the population is on the rise, along with gangs and illegals with little to no ethics. Everyone is just figuring out that the police investigate crime, but seldom stop it.
  2. Boat or bank?
  3. I have always believed that smallies tend move close to broken water, but generally aren't in it. This is especially true after the water warms and the broken water gets more oxygenated. The population in this area doesn't bode well for any bank space seclusion. Take your kayak and throw your tackle box in the deep holes and the edges of the current and at any object big enough to break the flow.
  4. When you bring a gun to confront people who are obviously most likely unarmed, and you don't know whether they might be belligerent or not you're kind of screwed. He obviously took the least acceptable route. I don't know how you can blame the floaters, they didn't come to the confrontation to start trouble, he did.

That's not the point and neither is the first amendment. The whole point is that he will have to make peace with over 70 or so fellow athletes. There is no control over their opinions, no matter what do gooders tell you. I think it makes sense for him to establish himself as a fellow athlete before he pushes for acceptance on a subject that won't be accepted easily. He's young and he has a lot to learn. His fellow teammates aren't college players nor will they care what his reputation is as a player. They will want to see results and if he continues to divert attention it may came back to haunt him. He needs to SHUT UP about his sexual preference and play football, then other things will follow.
  6. Same here. My parents had a young Chow when I was born and she lived to be almost 14. I've never had a time that I didn't have one. I had a friend who took care of mine when I was on active duty so I managed to keep one even then.
  7. How do you split a hive. You have to have a queen for each, right?
  8. Crocker certainly had a mental problem. He'll probably appeal on a lack of defense. He probably had some grandiose idea that he was the areas militia protecting his land and his neighbors from invasion. I know it's risky to speculate, but the floaters seemed to be adults, rather young people adult in age only. In my experience around the Niangua there's a big difference.
  9. Congratulations. You have a simple honest business model it's fueled your success I'm sure.
  10. Back to the subject. I think there's a good chance some serious enforcement against public indecency, intoxication and language would eventually increase floaters to some degree. It wouldn't take but one summer with some heavy enforcement to send some looking for other places to act like azzholes..
  11. I don't want to attack liveries, but most of the bad acting is done in rental canoes. I don't know how you would separate the renters who are there for a leisurely float from those who are there to party? I know on the Niangua there is always a bunch on there that could care less about anyone else and I have no doubt they wouldn't act the way they do any where else. It's always kind of sad to see a couple with a small child launching while 100 yards downstream you have a crowd of loud drunks who could care less. They hit the stream half drunk and within a 100 yards they're out a gravel bar taking a leak and using language they wouldn't allow anyone else to use in front of their family. Having said all that, I don't CC suffers from that and my guess is the landowner just wanted to impress his buddy.

So Ness there really was organized crime in KC??
  13. Calling it like I see it. My dad taught me profiling, when we were hunting rabbits he told me don't shoot at squirrels.

I didn't get that question from discussion. I think the question is shouldn't he tread lightly in unknown territory? He is going to need all the help he can get from his teammates and I just think he would be smart to not overplay his sexual preference.
  15. Dogs coming out of a shelter may not indicate their true nature. Dogs, just like most creatures, can be protective when they're in a strange habitat. There will always be little gamble involved, but the breed is a good predictor. Given the popularity of the pits with a certain financial enterprise it's probably smart to be extra wary of one in a shelter.
  16. How can you be sure? The Neosho as a sub species is in question. OSU was the authority that said they were, but they are also the ones who say further DNA analysis says they may not be.

You are free to speak as you want, as long as it passes muster by the media, small loud minority's and the DOJ.
  18. We have had 2 Siberians. The first one lived to be 17 and she was a 60 pound female, about 15 pounds over the norm. She was by far the smartest dog I've ever had. If they have a fault it is that they like to chase. We lived in a very rural area for awhile and we had to watch her or she would stay out and chase deer have the night. She wasn't aggressive, but she could defend herself and then some. I only saw her jumped twice and it turned out bad for both of the other dogs. She would turn her neck to the other dog and when they grabbed a mouthful of hair she would roll up under them and grab them by the throat.

Well I agree with Mitch. If you want to get acceptance for something you know is unpopular among your future peers, don't shove it down their throats. No pun intended.
  20. I have to add myself to the anti pit camp. I have a cousin who's daughters think they're the best thing going, but when we camp they keep them on a tight leash. The bad thing about them as I see it is that they get a hold and don't let go. That's not an animal that you can back off. Rotts can be bad, but in my experience it seems they have to be taught to be guard dogs, just like G Shepherds do. Dogs are really more of an alert and a warning to an intruder than an active guard.

The pros weren't high on Sam. I saw part of his pro day and frankly he looked bad. The scouts had him as what the call a tweener, and in his case it was that he wasn'r big enough to play DE and he was too slow to play LB. He's going to have to do a lot better to ever be a starter. If he doesn't make it he won't be the first above average college player to sit on the third string bench for a couple of years and then get a job.

I agree with that. I wish the Chiefs had taken him. You can't always close your eyes and compare QB's. McCarron had to play a team that was fired up virtually every game and that cuts into the stats. I think a lot of the rhetoric about Sam overlooked the fact that he wasn't high on the list. His line was that he was too small for a professional end and to slow for a LB. He also looked really bad in the pro day test. No one wanted to pay him high draft dollars to see if he could step up.
  23. I think the rock garden he speaks of is the bedrock section not far above the pool that leads to the White. It is eroded in such a way to create rock above the water with some algae slick sections under water in between.
  24. I know the Colorado river system has true smallies, but I don't know the origin. It's hard to say who first imported them because the system touches more than one state.
  25. I think it depends on how they are raised. The problem with aggressive breeds from a shelter, especially pits, is that you don't know their early treatment. This dog could have been taught to be aggressive by it's first owner. My dog is half Rott and some chow and I've had him since he was 3 months old. All of his "punishment" has been oral and he shows no aggression toward any creature. He will chase cats and deer out of the yard, but that's as far as he goes. He has jumped 1 dog in 10 years and that was a strange Shepard that ran at me. I think if they aren't allowed to be aggressive, but are disciplined without physical pain they grow into friendly dogs.
