  1. To solve the problem of braid spinning on the spool, wrap the line across the spool one time. Take a piece of electrical tape about square, and put it across the line, using your fingernail to make sure it contacts the spool between the line wraps. When you wind over the tape, take some time and make sure the first few wraps are tight. I've always done this and never had a slip. For knots I use the Palomar. I haven't had much luck with Fluoro's on spinning gear because it seems stiff and prone to retain to much memory. Like all lines, Fluorocarbon should fill a need. If you need a line that is abrasion resistant, has little stretch compared to mono and sinks rapidly, it can't be beat. If you need a thin line that is abrasion resistant but has some stretch, then something like P-Line CX works well. The list goes on.
  2. The people need to tell the powers that be that they want more of this, along with a program to limit the number of canoes rented.
  3. We're thinking of a trip in late July. Anyone care to share their experience on this section?
  4. That statement seems to always be true, no matter where you're stream fishing. If the water is moving well and you can't see the bottom, there will be Bass there.
  5. I fished 133 to 7 for the first time not too long ago. The lack of a shuttle keeps me off of it for the most part.
  6. They found them in Grand, last year I believe. On the otherside, they say that they may not fare well in warmer waters like LOZ and Grand, we can hope I guess.
  7. Yeah the rivers get longer and deeper Dan
  8. Well I guess it had to happen, there goes the neighborhood Just kiddin' Terry. I know this will beat where you were, its not Mtn. Home, but its close and its not flat.
  9. Hi SEMO, this site will make a good meeting place for the displaced Missouri RS'ers. You'll find some familiar names are here already. You can't beat the company here.
  10. Nice Pics.
  11. My son has a new Godfrey Hurricane and he loves it. It is a fine boat, and it does a great job of smoothing the water out. He has a 225 Honda 4 stroke on it and it is fast.
  12. Have a good safe one Phil.
  13. Thats sad Glad to hear the topwater bite was on, it seems to be slow in starting this year.
  14. Yes and I don't believe many of the Old Town businesses are going to gain. We eat at the Ranch House often, or did, and it wasn't easy at times to park, if not impossible, I would imagine it will become impossible now , except in the middle of winter possibly. We ate in Branson on 76 December 31, evening and that was an erie feeling, there was virtualy no traffic on the strip.
  15. There is something of a building boom away from Branson, but having come from a construction trade, a quickie boom does little for an area in the long term. In fact it can harm it by giving false indicators of the future. vacation, why would anyone think the east end would be hurt, but the city is bigger than that, so what about the west end? Diverting people to the East end can't be good for the other side. Much of the debate was that the city felt the need for an increased sales tax to do more promoting, because visitor numbers were down. If I'm not mistaken the increase that the Landing would bring was from conventions, so how is that going?
  16. Nice! can't see the Anal fin, but I assume from the size that its a Blue.
  17. Yes, I couldn't figure out what they were offering, given the fact they seem to want everyone with money to come, no questions asked.
  18. What is the free pass they're offering locals?
  19. I'm still puzzled about how the ball ended up in the fishes mouth.
  20. Barclay is below Bennett and Sand springs. There is also a spring at Barclay.
  21. Neither BP nor the Branson chamber can likely give you 1/10th of the information that Phil and Bill offer. The bottom line is that BP is here because the chamber wanted them here for the name. The Lilley's and Babler's don't draw enough people in the eye's of the powers that be to be a large enough benefit. This isn't to say they aren't because we know their value, only that those promoting Branson and the area aren't smart enough to see it.
  22. It would probably benefit everyone to encourage the MDC to separate the natural waters from the man made waters for the purpose of fishing regulations. They saw the necessity of protecting the Smallies during the spawn decades ago. This was because of their vulnerability, and they are more vulnerable now with less water and more fishermen. I'm not a gigger, but I can see that Sucker numbers are low and the size is small compared to the past. I realize that they can't return a gigged fish, but if they put a limit on them and charge double, or even triple for a small fish, they will pass on fish they believe are undersized. The same goes for Smallies. If you can't fish any longer with a Smallie of a certain size in your possession, the honest ones will return the bigger fish.
  23. I think its past time, and I think it can be justified in the fact that the streams today bear little resemblance to those that spawned the 6 fish limit. The simple fact is that most populations of fish that inhabit natural environments, can't sustain an old fashioned fish fry whenever someone wants one. In fact I think the number available is so low they might as well make some extensive cutbacks while they can. Its not just Smallies, whens the last time anyone saw a 5lb Redhorse?
  24. And I missed it.
  25. Possibly they would react to the suggestion that the 1/8 cent sales tax for land is no longer needed, if they can't protect what we already have? I realize that funds are a problem, but the availability of retired law enforcement isn't. They could hire part time people to work under a regular agent and saturate an area like Busch. I would imagine that a dozen special agents could retrieve all their expenses in a weekend as long as the fines were applied to expenses. This isn't my idea, but one that has been proposed before, and its time for the commission to get off their soft, don't irritate anyone stance. I would suggest that this Governor and future governors should feel some pressure to appoint commissioners that are firm in enforcement.
