Kelly was there during the week when I went in there. Ed was running it on weekends, and some during the week also. I suspect the fact that the web site is down is a sign there's a change coming. I don't have Ed's number anymore, but I'm sure Charley knows what's going on.

Well if you want to call 3 fatalities and 11 nonfatal in 26 years in a very large heavily populated Mountain Lion friendly state a track record then you're right. I would call it a pretty poor record myself. I think their deaths from dogs is probably higher though.

There's always some ducks holed up around the lakefronts below Rockaway and in Silver Creek. I guess they know where they're safe. When I hunted I always figured on big flocks and lots of ducks when it froze over to the north. Ducks don't run from the cold as much as they run from solid water.
-
Are you hunting the upper or lower end? I haven't hunted in quite a few years now, but it seems like it's late for the little greenwings?

Does Manning and the Bronchos bring back memories of Montana and the Chiefs, including the long slide after, or is that just me?

That's the thinking and it's probably true given the fact that the old tom doesn't tolerate any competition in the harem. I think eventually there will be enough females to push them east and then there will be breeding populations. That won't change the fact that they don't have any track record of being a danger to humans. Bears, especially with cubs are known to take exception to humans and hogs aren't something to be taken lightly. I would put the hogs at the top of the list, nothing is much more of a threat then a 200# sow with a litter.

With no control the lions will continue to expand. The California group that got hunting methods all but eliminated via false advertising insured that. The biggest impact will be to the deer population and any idea that they are a real threat to humans is nonsense and not supported by decades of experience in states where they thrive.

I haven't used one on the rivers here, but I have several years of experience in owning one and using on western rivers. I can't add much to what Trigg said, but I will point out that beyond the list of rivers where they are suitable, there are many where they are probably not. You may need to be sure you can use it often enough on "your" rivers. Length translates to capacity and draft. I don't think length would be as much a handicap on Ozark rivers as the increase in draft from using a boat too short. I ran a 17' on the John Day river in OR more times then I can count and the obstacles, while not exactly the same, required every bit as much maneuvering as on any Ozark river.

Old timers used to say if the cows were laying down it wasn't worth going hunting or fishing. Anyone besides me believe the fish always bite around noon?

Yeah, but I have to give him credit he paid as he went and wasn't afraid to screw someone once in awhile. I don't know what his mothers status is, but she had some land and wasn't poor.

Yeah, But eventually the old man will retire and they'll be looking for Timmy.

Interesting. I could see where they might do a lease type arrangement. Ed and Kay had to fight the problem of distance from the park when they owned Springview and while it didn't hurt them with the large number of clientele they had, it was hard to replace them when they moved on. Running a business in the Bennett area is intensive for most and not all that rewarding financially.

I admit that everything said fits the picture we get, BUT I also know that TV is tunnel vision and it's sometimes hard to know everything that's going on. As far as Bowe goes I know he got, or gets, a lot of double teaming, especially when Avery and Jenkins can't catch balls that hit both hands. As for Smith, I think he's just getting more familiar with the plays and the targets. Everybody thinks a QB can come in and throw deep, they can, but it's better if they know who's likely to catch the ball. As Smith gets more familiar he can go deeper with some confidence that a Chiefs receiver will end up where he's throwing. As for DGB going to the Chiefs, I hope the Chiefs record is better than that next year.

I think all teams are always loaded with 3 start players. The thing is it isn't what many think however. A 3 star player has a lot of talent, there are many high school players and the ones deemed worth of starting in college are 3 star, above that the numbers thin considerably. It won't be a bad thing when DGB declares, I don't think there is much doubt, but I do think he will go early and likely to a team most of us don't follow and that's always a bummer.

I see thier website is apparently gone. I was on it right after the season closed and I got the impression that the store was closing, but maybe they meant all of it? Rogers may get that Orvis franchise yet, unless Charley backs up and works something out. If Larry's is indeed closed I would imagine the park will buy it and tear it down.

I think Storm continued to call it the Lil Chubby, but I 'm not absolutely positive. I can't remember the guys name, but Johnny Morris style he was going a round selling them at tournaments and shops. The one in the picture has been bastardized, probably be cause they original tails aren't available. You can cut the tail from a 3" grub, leaving enough meat to hold it in and it would be very close to the original. As for dating them, early 70's for certain. Here's another lure from the same period. I never owned or used the bottom one, but I caught some really nice bass in the spring on the top one. It was killer on Toledo Bend in late winter.

It's interesting that the spoon has a hook hanger to hold the single in place. I would think that would indicate that the company also made other lures. I have some lures designed by a guy in Oklahoma that used a plastic tail inserted in the rear of a diving lure. It was called the Lil Chubby and he eventually sold it to Storm. Here's one listed on E-Bay, but the tail isn't standard on this one. The tails that came with them were thinner and shorter. The tail slip into a molded bracket on the rear and hung out the back.

No doubt. I thought in high school he was headed for some greatness. I still think he will and it will be sad to see him go pro because you tend to lose track of players then. While i had hoped he would go to OU, I was happy he chose MU, which I didn't expect. An athletic, fast 6'6" receiver with good hands is gold!

Rapalas were being sold in the early 50's. They were hard to come by and very expensive, but the were guaranteed to get bit every cast. A little search doesn't come up with a good answer. James Heddon is credited with the first lures and the first commercial lures. I'm not sure that any of them follow to the letter anything made today however. I also struck out on Arbogast and Paw Paw. Here's a site that looks interesting and some might want to look over. http://fishinglurecollectibles.net/index.html

I think one needs to remember when it comes to hybrids that beyond the initial hybridization there are generations. These generatins leave small, almost indiscernible, tracks. I suspect that is the case in the fish pictured. It's probably a 1st or 2nd generation fish from a Kentucky/smallie to smallie

Great question. I'm going to guess it was a design by Jim Heddon, I believe it was Jim, and my guess without any research would be the Spook?

C'mon you know it's all about Sooner Magic. At the risk of being a conspiracy theorist, could Saban have influenced the committee to bring in OK in order to see how Stoops coaches? That way when he goes to TX he won't be in the dark? Bowl games for players are rewards, but for fans they all to often don't answer questions that beg answers. The Cotton bowl will. Is Missouri really that much better now, or are they the same team with a great team who would have run the Big 12 also, but not run over it. OSU is a geed representative of the best of today's Big 12. Personally I think it's the best match-up of the bowl season.

I have been fishing the lower end a lot lately. For what ever reason the size tends to run in "groups"? Lately we have had days with good catches of nice heavy 12" fish, slim silver streaks of 12" fish or 8-10" slim silver streaks? I don't know, but suspect these are hatchery mates that stick together. At any rate there is a a lot docks in the area of Branson and Rockaway where you can bundle up and stay warm while fishing.

I've got some Shimmy Babes I think are older than that. I gave my old lures to my son and I don't have them handy, but I know there is a Stingaree in there, some baby and tiny 13's, wooden Bombers, Midgit Digits, Sonics, Punkinseeds, Bayou Boogies, Baby Hellbenders. There are a couple more old ones that I can't remember the names, or find on the net. I have some of the old Arbogast lures also, Hawaii Wiggler Mud Bug, several different size Hula's, Jitterbugs, and Crazy Crawlers. I made the transition to plastic in the late 60's and pretty much put my lures away in till the Deep Wee R and fire tiger appeared.

F&F, Fly smallie, look at where the second push occurs. Josy is on the yellow broken line! He pushes him out of bounds, disengages and then pushes him again, 5 steps beyond the sideline, on the line that is 12' beyond the sideline. C'mon, that's too far out to be anything but intentional.! I do agree it wasn't likely a game changer.
