  1. Where are the LARGE populations?
  2. Didn't need all of it, my exception was to "Mauk lost to SC". I think given the fact he spotted the defense 17 points and then kept Mizzou in the game even against Shaw, then a kicker misses a high percentage kick, it's unfair to say Mauk didn't hold up his end. Here's an interesting set of stats. Disclaimer: I'm not saying one way or another if I agree with it. http://www.sports-ratings.com/college_football/power-rating-all-divisions.html
  3. I think I would take exception to that. He had Mizzou ahead until Shaw came in and matched Shaw in the overtime. Can't really blame him for the defense not protecting a lead, or a kicker who could miss the stadium if he wasn't in it.
  4. I see him as accurate and his misses as poor reading, not uncommon for any freshman who hasn't practiced with the receivers he's throwing too and who simply lacks experience in so many aspects. I think accuracy is hard to achieve if it isn't already there. Two things plague new QB;s, IMO, one is that they don't often throw long in high school and they don't have the defensive backs to force pinpoint accuracy. Every step up, high school to college to pros intensifies the talent. I wouldn't look for a lot of improvement this year, but by the time he goes through spring with the starters he should be a real asset. Best hope he has people surrounding him to take advantage of it. I don't think it would be smart to risk Franklin against the weakest SEC team they will likely play. He's a senior and doesn';t need the conditioning to enter play. A week of practice to hone his timing and he should be ready to go. I would let him get stronger. If SC and TN couldn't beat Mauk, why think KY could?
  5. One thing will stop most of it, fish can't lose contact with the water and fierce enforcement of it at the start. It isn't a new idea and I know of at least one state where it is the law. Only fish legal to keep and intended to be kept can be raised out of the water.
  6. It was certainly a win that had to be conclusive after the loss and it was. I don't know if it's fair to say Mauk is an inconsistent passer, more like an inconsistent reader. Nothing cures that but experience. As the season goes on he will learn more and more where his receivers are at any given time and where his blocking is. He seems to be well above average in accuracy and that's harder to achieve then simply figuring out where the targets are. I wouldn't play him passed KY and I think the should put Franklin back into the line up the Monday after KY.
  7. Yeah that will be a good, as will FSU/Miami, FL/GA, OSU/TT. So many games, so little time. All of them important, other than FL/GA, but it will be a good matchup.
  8. Yup. It's not at all uncommon to see that below the dam, especially in the spawn. Can't forget holding the fish while someone runs up and gets a camera either, seen it happen more than once.
  9. I don't get down there much now, not since they flooded all the areas I could walk and fly fish.
  10. I understand that Old Plug. I have some of the same problems. I use two fingers, but I still have to watch where they go and sometimes I don't read what I wrote. Must be an age thing?
  11. It's hard to bad mouth a guy shot down on a combat mission, one of many, who then spends 4 years of imprisonment and torture. Republican or not his resume is honorable. I doubt that many could have with withstood the conditions he did. I don't think I could.
  12. Here's one that not many have seen. I saw a few of these at Eglin AFB in Florida in '62. There was a big firepower demo for Kennedy planned, he never showed and more fighter bombers than I ever saw in one place just ran practice. Later that year there was a big uproar in the region. I don't know if that had anything to do with the show of power of not? The ones there were ones with rocket pods on each wingtip holding 52 2.75's. The little known F-89.
  13. Yeah I believe you're right. A rocket or missile fired, and struck McCains plane, which was armed for launch, setting it on fire. I don't know if they ever found out why the armament fired, but it could have been carelessness or accidental static.
  14. There would be more browns if they would force the knotheads to learn the difference and release them.
  15. The Spitfire and the Mustang were first cousins. They were responsible for getting the bombers in to Germany towards the end of the war and had a tremendous impact on the war. The F-105 was the early workhorse in 'Nam and, I believe the first "wild weasel". USAF picked up the F-4 as the 105's went down. They could carry an especially high load of armament for a fighter/bomber at the time.
  16. Huh? Old Plug don't you have spell check on that somewhere. I know what you mean about mistakes on those small keyborads, but spell check saves the day for me. Now if they would just come up with grammar correction.
  17. I agree about Pinkel, but he's not alone. Stoops at OK has been accused of the same problem, not being able to finish the most important game. I wasn't saying Mizzou can't beat any of the remaining teams, but I think the fact that MS and A&M are both serious threats they may not be able to keep up the intensity and beat both. They aren't alone, all teams have a problem with this.
  18. At fire power demonstrations in the early 60's it was common to build a concrete block wall and the turn a stationary 20mm M-61 Vulcan loose on it.
  19. For me I think it's the P-51 and the F-104. The 104 was a missile with a man in it at the time. It had such a small wing area that the empty cartridges from its cannons were retained so as not to change its attitude to quickly. It was capable of mach 2, very fast at the time. But in all fairness you have to love this old gal.
  20. I agree. TN is a good team with a so so defense. I think in Columbia MU will win, but I think TN will make it a game. Unless Franklin comes back healthy I don't see them beating MS and A&M. A&M might be more than then Mizzou's defense can handle.
  21. I don't think anyone knows OTF, but I thought the leaning among the so called experts was for ND to meet AL if neither stumbled. ND, lacking a state alliance, has always pulled more weight than they probably deserved. ND always put up some very good teams when they had the coach to direct them. I think however they often got less than an all out effort by a lot of teams because of the timing, they played a lot teams when the teams were in the midst of conference play. Those teams often appeared to be looking past ND. That's just an opinion. I don't think close games should count in the polls, but they slip in that's for sure. Close games are better for armchair QB's like us, especially in multiples. Stanford always gets some hype, but they don't have the offense that Oregon has and their defense, while very close doesn't match up either. OSU is sold most likely, but if Oregon stumbles there is no rule as to how teams move and I doubt they would get any boost. I look for FSU to demolish Miami and get a solid hold on a top 3. they don't have any "tough" opponents on the horizon. Baylor will be in the wings, but they have a tough schedule, on the other hand if they win out they may get a jump from the BCS strength ratings and be able to move if a couple of the schools above them flounder. Stanford will likely drop if my overrated crystal ball is right. Missouri will have to step up. They didn't look like a team destined to beat TN, MS and TA&M against SC. Like I said though they may have been blind sided by practicing against a team running simpler plays. The offense still looked good against what I believe was a healthy SC defense.
  22. Good looking PT. I would imagine it would do better in fast water given the number of beads. Fast water isn't something we experience here so an alteration of using glass beads might work better here..
