  1. I don't know if it's all their fault. This is the edge of their range and so much has changed outside their control. I know you and the other bird hunters on here can remember when you looked for covey of quail in the fence rows, now you have to look hard for a fence row.
  2. Hopefully this rain will put some water in it.
  3. I don't think you are ever guaranteed water on the Buffalo. We did a lot of walking on a July trip from Rush to Riley's. The overall amount of dragging wasn't necessarily hard, but it did slow us down enough to cut into fishing time. If they are releasing any water when you hit the White you have to paddle about a 100 yards upstream to get a good angle on Riley's and miss the island. You won't be bothered with any day floaters on that section.
  4. Here you go Steve. I didn't look over what they offer, but this is the place at the bridge. http://www.riversideresortandcanoes.com/
  5. We were at hoover a couple of years ago and the most impressive thing were the bighorns, desert?, sheep we saw.
  6. Apathy isn't a superstition. I do agree it, apathy, is the root of most of our problems. The real problem is we took too long to wake up. The government is either already in control of groups who expect others to support them or they soon will be. The notion of poor, middle class and rich is a scam. There are many poor that are that way because they live as they want to live and don't expect help, the so called middle class is between the poor and the rich and has no other classification. The rich is anyone who is comfortable economically, or has the magic million dollars or more in assets. The government is only corrupt because it has been allowed to be, board members pay themselves obscene amounts because stockholders allow it. No one votes for individual peers anymore, they vote in the contest between Democrats and Republicans. The last election was a real bell ringer. Whether you like Obama or not, he did nothing he promised and had no accomplishments except enriching certain voter blocs. Those blocs who voted for what they could get legally from someones labor other than their own determined the election. By the time the next one rolls around there will be millions more who will be standing in the free line and the plummet will begin. The only hope is that a large enough group will throw aside any other concerns and break the chain of socialism and allow the country to go back to a liberal/conservative social society that can be maintained for all.
  7. It's a nice float and should have good water levels than. It's 23 miles if I remember right and no access from Rush to the White. You can probably get Riley's Station to shuttle you and that leaves your vehicle at their resort. They are across the river from the mouth of the Buffalo. There are some really nice bluffs and lots of gravel bars for camping. It could be a 5 day float counting put in and take out if you want to really fish it. Lots of good water.
  8. We all but got stuck on the gravel bar under the bridge and we just pulled close to extract the yaks. If the bar is the same I would be careful, some gravel can be worse than mud or sand. I wouldn't worry about daylight security, but overnight would be scary.
  9. My grandpa used a wood framed storm door. He would build a wooden box with a slight tilt, probably 22.5, facing south with the door as a lid. he would then bank straw around the box to insulate it. I have to ask, how do you know they are feral?
  10. So we go back to some Neanderthal cave and start over?
  11. I've been fooling around with boxes and the like for several years now with mixed results. My theory is that some plants can't stand the hot soil that above ground units have.
  12. You should be fine with a 5wt. If you don't tie try a chartreuse clouser, and if that doesn't work go home when you get tired.
  13. I suspect they will still be in deeper water, but probably getting more in the chasing mood. It should be worth the trip.
  14. That's a good question. I don't really know, but the idea isn't new. Joan Wulff had one out decades ago and I never heard or read any negatives about it. I think the one thing that keeps them low key is that most people would rather go outside and use the real thing. In your case it might well keep your timing intact, or improve it if you're like me.
  15. I'm not making the connection between anarchy and slave labor. Weren't the northern states building a society without slavery, even closer to home didn't Kansas. That's what we are told anyway. I might point out that the preamble doesn't say to "make a perfect union" only more perfect. So actually our form of government goes back farther, to the Magna carta and it's not the plan that is less than perfect, but the adherence by those in charge, namely the people in this case. The Charter is close to 800 years old so it would probably be hard to convert English descendents to anarchy.
  16. I fished a bass tournament on Texoma many years ago when it was unusually low. There were some oil rigs in the Washita arm that had pipes that were normally well under the surface, but not that weekend and a competitor took the bottom section off of a big Mercury. It appeared that the casing probably shattered and everything but the shaft fell away.
  17. The ones I've seen weren't fuzzy. At least the ones they put in the coin machines weren't.
  18. I like the YK2 myself. It doesn't get much easier. I think the original was probably a failed attempt at tying a glo bug. I believe the two colors makes it more effective, just as two different color eggs tends to be.
  19. Do we know the daily temperatures in the days of the dinosaurs or better yet when volcanic activity was forming the earths crust?
  20. I think they do a better job now and about the only consistent variation seems to be in timing and duration of temperatures. One can hope the duration is to conservative on this forecast.
  21. having had a 10' boat, my GS stills has it, I can't imagine a 10 HP motor on one. By the time you add a body to controll it along with the motor you're talking about some serious weight in the back of the boat.
  22. So flyflinger, do you have an example of a successful anarchy? At least Homeland Security is going well. Along with armored vehicles and assault rifles with enough ammo to start a, what ever it is they intend to do with all this armament, the TSA will look good while allowing 2' knife blades and banning 1/2' box cutter blades. What sequester? http://cnsnews.com/news/article/tsa-sealed-50-million-sequester-eve-deal-buy-new-uniforms
  23. I don't know if that would be a good idea today, they might close the park.
