Question On Border Lakes Fishing License
Wayne SW/MO replied to fish_in_a_lund's topic in White River
I'm not sure what you find confusing? It clearly states the impounded waters of Table Rock, Bull Shoals and Norfolk. -
Interesting Weather Record Set Today
Wayne SW/MO replied to Jerry Rapp's topic in General Angling Discussion
Very true, but it was applying across the board limitations, and I might add long after it should have stepped in, same with DDT, but it is hard to reward much credit given the lag time. Across the board incentives would go a long way, but the present atmosphere, like many in the past, is to give money to a chosen few which results in very little results. Ethanol is a good example of an idea that can only work under certain conditions. If we see this trend continue into another Dust Bowl era drought, the water and the use of corn is going to rapidly become very unpopular. The government, if they could wake up, should helping people directly to get a better bang for the buck and more citizen involvement. Individual solar generation and heating, underground air ducting are all viable and modern technology can make them even more widespread and useful. We don't however see anything being done that actually makes the average citizen believe he will benefit. Drop his electrical bill by putting solar on his roof and allow him to buy $1.50 a gallon NG for his truck and you'll not only get his attention, he'll ask for more. I think that's a better idea than a hybrid car burning $3.50 a gallon gas or an all electric that actually uses a fuel that is just as polluting as gas is once the process is totaled. -
I should point out though that you know your water well enough to set the indicator to the proper depth. If you depend on the indicator to carry your offering you need to know where to set it. I think that is where many of us get into trouble.

It's always good to get your spirits lifted. cats are notorious for playing with the bait and circle hooks will help in eliminating some of that. When using them you can wait until the fish literally swallows the bait. The hooking is done with a low rod tip and simply stop the line. Once you feel the fish you pull enough to turn his head in embed the hook in the corner of the mouth.

Much As It Pains Me, On Barbless I Stand Corrected...
Wayne SW/MO replied to Bamboozle's topic in Crane Creek
Interesting, but i think is far from the last word. The mortality rate from barbless hooks has always thought to be reduced by less handling and involved a lot of hookups. The study doesn't exactly say how many involved or how that might represent a season of fishing. Nor does it take into account the release methods used by all fishermen. As far as the numbers lost using barbless we have no way of know how skilled the fishermen in the study are. I can't help but think over time the speedy release of fish that is offered by barbless hooks will save some. I have never felt I lost anymore fish with barbless than with barb. The only reasonable way a fish can throw a hook is to use the lures weight to disengage the hooks. Flies and light lures just don't offer anything for a fish to use. Poor hookups happen to all fishermen, with or without barbs. -
It's between McCall bridge and Ponce De Leon.

The Draconian Regulations Of The 4 Jackson County Lakes
Wayne SW/MO replied to woodman's topic in Blue Springs Lake
That's nothing new for JACO or KC. They drove everybody out of the city decades ago because of greed. Their biggest achievement is in producing Johnson County. -

That is true, but if we sacrifice our own country to lift theirs then why do we need to change? I suppose I'm a skeptic because I don't know that I've seen the government successful at many things, including governing. We have to feel secure about our future before we can accept a lot of change. Solar is a great example, pour billions into manufacturing and then realize to late that private industry follows a market, not manufacture ahead of it. We see the same thing now in a battery company that got 100's of billions of our money, and now finds themselves in trouble, but claim they will recover because they still have 100 million, again our money, to redirect their manufacturing. The government has shown to be a poor judge of how to get the people to not only cooperate, but to afford their misguided lead. The only time the government is generally successful is in tax breaks for specific achievements. If we're going to get where we can produce energy cleanly we will have to get there in steps. Electric cars that few can afford is a folly, Ethanol using food and huge amounts of water to produce is another folly. We have ways to make a big impact, but they're ignored because big government isn't interested and they drive congress. We could easily be producing solar and heating energy on rooftops, but the bulk of the $$$ would fall to small independent contractors and if the government really helped individuals financially the profit margin would have to be thin. -

Sapps is the one I remember, and I was only there once. I suppose that lake level is crucial. -

What is your source for this statement? I realize that the process uses large volumes of water, which is why the fear that chemicals used are that much of a threat. Ethanol production requires large amounts of water also, the present amount is given as 3 gallons of water for every 1 gallon produced. That would be considerably more than the one time shot in fracking. I don't know how safe fracking is or if the worries are justified, but I do know that it isn't a new process and many point out that it has been kinder to the environment then many things we seem to accept. There's also the fact that common sense tells us that the big oil companies DO NOT want to see NG become a vehicle fuel. -
Unfortunately there are a lot of things that aren't removed, or can't be removed, from sewage plants and if you think the AR and MO towns in the watershed don't dump anything harmful then have at it. I think I would avoid any bottom feeder, which would include black bass. the majority of trout in Taney probably don't stay long enough to be polluted, even though they're bottom feeders. Whites and crappie are probably the safest because of their feeding habits, maybe gills. The little extra added by the watershed population is the reason for the cloudy water and that's your clue that there's a lot of stuff in the White river lakes.

Yup, especially the leader. The leader will all most always start to turn upstream, as if it has quit drifting, which it has. You will pick up the bottom some, but learn to lift and draw the line under control. If an indicator isn't getting stopped because of bottom contact then you aren't where the fish are anyway. Another option is to use a sharpie and color the end of your fly line. always, always sharpen your hook so that you can literally snag some of the fish in the mouth.

Fracking is something that is hard to pin down. Those against come up with all kinds of scenarios, and those for deny everything. I know that PA is a hot spot for anti fracking, but with their coal mine problems it's hard know what is true. NG would, or should be only a temporary solution and I know without any information other then common sense that a lot more people could convert to cheap natural gas decades before they can buy a 40K electric car running on coal produced electricity. With the huge amount of money destined to be lost by some corporations if there is a conversion to gas, what makes you think you're getting good information? -

I think the one I mentioned is closer to 65. It's the Cross Timbers WMA. It's been ages since I was there, but it isn't to far north of 54, east of Hermitage. I think it's quite aways from 83. -
8 times out of 10 the best color for something fished on the bottom will be one that matches the bottom in color. the reason is simple, natural critters use camouflage to survive and that is what the fish expect.
-
I might add try to stay below the high water line. Gravel is the best when the weather makes it safe, going into the pucker brush means dealing with unwanted critters, like ticks..

Brazil isn't exactly the answer. Brazil gets of its ethanol from waste, something we don't have. If they don't have enough waste and turn to specific crops then one must assume the rainforest will give up the extra land. The most viable answer would seem to be using natural gas to bridge the gap to a viable renewable source. If technology could harness the emissions from diesel engines the future would be close to secure. Breaking the back of oil would in and of itself serve mankind beyond belief. If you add in wars, pollution, the hit of high prices on the economy, and oil by products dumped in landfills it is probably more expensive than we know. -
If you are talking about fishing on flows a natural drift is the most productive way to fish. You can use an indicator and that will work, but you'll catch more fish with a free drift and using line attitude as an indicator.

I believe there is a ramp at an MDC area north of Hermitage. You can find it on the MDC Atlas, on their website. -
Glad to hear you had a good trip KC.
