was there ever a shad kill?

It sounds like he's talking about the area between 65 and the river, northeast of the intersection. You're right if he's talking about the southwest area, all most. You're in a zone where Glenstone and Republic rd merge, and I don't know where they end and start now. The road is the first left south of the overpass and its now Nature center way, I believe. It kind of screwy because I believe Republic and Glenstone used to split at that point, Republic right and Glenstone left to the MDC center.

If its where I think you're referring to take the Battlefield exit, turn right and then the outer road to the right. There's a swampy area and paved trail on the west side that is between 60 and Springfield lake, and you access it from the nature Center.

Then what is? He's not asking for money, he's letting everyone know that the MSA is trying to establish a chapter here, a little closer for many that count smallmouth as their main pursuit. The first year in the MSA is virtually free with the value received, so money is hardly the issue. If you knew what the thread was than why not pass it by? It was only spam if you and drew are the sheriffs of the thread, given the fact you're guest like the rest of us and not, perhaps you could find something really worthwhile to add to the forum.

Its pretty good stuff Rat, but I think TUFF XP is a little better and it hasn't had any issues that I know of.

Swan and Bull are heavily dependent on rain, but Beaver holds up pretty well. Beaver also has more accesses it seems and you can go upstream from most of them, again depending on rainfall.

I have to point out that there is a world of difference between how lines perform, between spinning and bait casters. there are a few lines that will do a pretty good job on both, but they're rare.

Like in a donations or what, its an organization, non profit, like many others. While I think the fact that trout have survived in Crane is great, they are of no more importance than smallies are. We had a long discussion about having a meeting here in the southwest part of the state, and apparently some weren't paying attention. There was a meeting and with some attention hopefully it will grow. Not everyone on here is obligated to make a choice, give money, or even read the thread. He's not asking for you money, he putting out an invitation. I don't understand the mentality that dictates that every thread has to be interesting to all or it shouldn't be allowed.

Southwestern Missouri Smallmouth Alliance
Wayne SW/MO replied to Gary Lange's topic in Crooked Creek
rat a lot of people down here slip over the border to fish in Arkansas. From the Buffalo to War Eagle, they aren't that far. -
Only two pages, hmmmm. Didn't make it to the fishing section?

I don't believe there is any difference between Trout Unlimited and the MSA. They both want to preserve the environment for fish species, in this case both reside in the same stream, much like several other streams with Ribbons attached. The biggest difference is that one is native and one is introduced.

Anyone Ever Fish Swan Creek South Of Chadwick
Wayne SW/MO replied to polock's topic in General Angling Discussion
Yes and it can be fun for small fish. I think the drought did a hit on the population, but i haven't been on it in 3 or 4 years. -
Anyone Fish Taney Trophy Area With A Kayak?
Wayne SW/MO replied to polock's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Depends, I think you could do some good in the last couple of miles. I don't think you would want to during generation however. As to kayaks, with the exception of the 10' sit-ins, I would go with a SOT for fishing. They aren't as restrictive, the difference in storage is minimal and you don't have to worry about an upset. The wilderness Tarpon in 12' is a little heavy, but not something even a small adult can't load car top. If I were going to use one exclusively on wide water I would go with a 14'. -
There are a lot of smallies on the lower end of Crane.

Great, I just bought one late last Fall, I hope its a personal thing. The big spool, big in diameter looked good to me even though I generally avoid anything that doesn't say Diawa, Shimano or Abu on a reel.

Shallow Shad rap in Shad. Most our action has come when they bust nearby where we're bass fishing, haven't really targeted them. We generally keep a rod rigged for the occasion though.

I don't believe they have made a spinning reel that won't twist the line if you close the bail mechanically. The line type and how its installed also has an effect. Soft lines work best and you can expect more problems with Fluorocarbons, XT, Maxima or any of the stiffer lines. The best way I've found to get away from most of the twist is to make sure you install the line in the right direction, the same as it is on the spool it came on. Take the reel with the new line on it outside and pull off a little more than you will cast and then slowly reel it back on the spool. Then put the spool in very warm tap water for 5 minutes or so. When you fish with it always, always, close the bail by hand. Use the mechanical bail closer for emergencies only. The last step alone will make a lot of difference, especially if you're using one of the stiffer lines. I do all of this religiously now and I seldom have any problems with my spinning reels. If I do get one that is starting to act up, its back outside and then another hot water bath.

I never use one in moving water, but you can often move in shallow water across from a good flow or wood and anchor. I doubt I've ever dropped mine in water over 18"s deep. It is helpful to avoid the constant correction or back paddling to keep from being pulled back into the current. I would never try it in fast water, deep or shallow.

Were they LM's. Are the lily pads still there, I thought I hear they washed out?

Not all channels are equal, I'm sure there are different opinions, but I think the fish don't follow the channel as much as the edge, and the more prominent the edge the better the channel. If you look at a creek or river you will see where there is virtually no bank and flats on both sides while others have very obvious banks, or quick changes in altitude. Swings are the same way, the outside of the swing generally has the most prominent bank.

When I shot competitively, which was eons ago, the Smiths were prefered over the Rugers and High Standards. They consistently had better triggers and tighter groups.

Smallmouthjoe the anchor rope runs through a carabiner that I hang off the front. When I say front its actually slightly to the side, but 3# doesn't matter. Make a loop of small nylon rope and loop in on the grab handle in the bow, hook the carabiner to it and run the anchor rope through it. Tie the end of the anchor if you're in a flow so that you won't lose it. I tie it twice when I don't want to chance it coming loose in a shoal or rapid. I've had no problem with a 3# dumbbell. My son uses two and holds his 160 Guide in the Niangua. One nice thing about the dumbbell is that the price allows you to cut it loose if necessary, rather than chance a spill. I could run it off the back, but if it tangles, my hasn't, I figure I can creep to the front easier than trying to turn around.

I second the Penobscot. Its only drawback is probably getting use to the stability, not that its doesn't have it, but where it is. I don't believe you'll ever look back once you're used to it. One more that hasn't been mentioned is the 147 Guide. It a little heavy, but it doesn't do too bad solo and its doable with someone in the front. I mention it because it might be one that would do the job solo and still be able to handle an occasional passenger. It wouldn't be that bad on our Ozark streams, which are pretty mild as flowing water goes. It's stable enough to stand in, cautiously.

I've used a Sitbacker for years and like it, works well with the adjustable back. The anchor set up I've used is a carabiner hanging from the front of the boat, mine has a cut for a hand hold, I then run the rope through it to a cheap 3# Wal-mart dumbbell. I tie it off to my seat thwart. I use it on the river also, not in current, but when I pull into quiet, shallow, water to fish a run.

Going To Bennett March 12 Weeend
Wayne SW/MO replied to troutassasin's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
You might look up Ed at Larry's while you're there and get some recommendations from him. Ed actually fishes the park and he up front about what is working.
