Wayne SW/MO replied to bobber's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
You and your wife have a good one Bob, you too Ham, I'll catch you guys in the Spring hopefully, maybe for some BBQ on 65, and a little Smallie fishing. -
Dadgum crappiefisherman I'll bet thats what I hooked down in the pothole one evening, I was fishing for carp and catching some 10-15 pounders until I hooked somthing I couldn't get up, the hook pulled after about 20 minutes, bet it was one of those crappie.

You're going to have to get a lantern that will burn all that stuff you keep in that van. Your "friend" wasn't at Tyler huh, oh well sounds like a fun trip.
-
Glad to hear all is well Terry, you'll be back up and at'em in no time.

NCAA football championship - who should go?
Wayne SW/MO replied to Quillback's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
Defiantly Michigan, but I'm sure it will be Florida. Like a lot of things, the obvious is overlooked, Michigan has only lost one game and thats to the number 1 team, on their turf, by hair. Oklahoma played Nebraska one year in the Orange Bowl, after losing to them in a regular season game, and they took it to them. I disagree on the BCS, I think it works, the problem is that the media needs less input and the coaches none. -
Anyone who wants too watch the rape of a river only needs to go to the 64 Access on the Niangua between 9-and 10 AM on a Saturday.
-
That would be right, his brother farms that bottom. Nice guy, friendly and helpful, but doesn't like the abuse the river is taking from civilization. Living on the wrong side was simply that if you lived on the west side you wouldn't have to go through Lebanon, but then some people have all the luck. They're lucky they could squeeze in 4 lanes.
-
You guys live on the wrong side of the state. I don't know of anyone offhand, but the people at the Menagerie, west of the river, might, Clyde at Clyde's store might know of someone, and Clifford Keith might put you in. Clifford is west on 64, look for a place on the left with canoes sitting there and firewood for sale. He's about 4-5 miles I think.

Presidential Visit?
Wayne SW/MO replied to TexomaOkie's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
Exactly, and it was a time that we faced dedicated suicide military men. Truman ordered what everyone knew was a horrific strike, one that would kill thousands of men, women and children. Truman had 2 choices it was believed, drop Big Boy and Little Boy, or suffer an estimated 1 million Americans killed in the invasion. He chose to save Americans in a situation where he had to chose. I contrast, we throw soldiers in prison for putting panties on the bad guys heads. -

I haven't either Al, but we both know there are some, and there were terrorist there before, a camp in north eastern Iraq, Nibal living in Baghdad, etc. I don't see any figures that there are any in Afghanistan either. The difference between giving them safe haven, and giving them assistance has to be noted. We are there and you agree we need to finish. If all parties would quit giving are enemies hope, the process would probably move faster. I don't think there is any doubt that Al Qaeda is probably responsible for the IED's, which gives us our casualties. I don't think Saddam was above slipping them whatever they needed to help them get at us and that fear has now transfered to Iran. No one can avoid the fact that Saddam had WMDs, he treated the inspectors as if he still did, the inspectors couldn't account for the ones they knew he had, Wilson inadvertently proved they were probably looking for Yellow Cake, and the list goes on. The consequences of losing the battle against Muslim extremist will overshadow any fears we had concerning the Third Reich or communism. GF, I've fished with Al and its a good experience, but we don't talk politics. -

I think they have an affection for any country that is predominately Muslim, its what they feel needs to be protected. Thom, like it or not Murtha wasn't alleged to want to "Cut and Run",this is his stance, he is also supported by Pelosi who has waffled, but has said she believes they should leave on more than one occasion. I don't think that our operations overseas in our defense should be a political matter nor a check earning job for unqualified Journalism Majors, but unfortunatly thats not the way it is and our troops, and our success suffers for it. -

Thats all well and good Al when Fareed puts blinders on and takes a look at the situation from present only. At this point in time he's probably right that much of Al Qaeda has left, but they have left feet first and thats something to note. What Farred is ignoring is that Al Qaeda has been gutted by their attraction to Afghanistan and Iraq. Saudi Arabia is a big contributer to the insurgency in Iraq, and thats the heart and sole of Al Qaeda. I have to ask, what are his sources? -

I was born before we got into WWII and to try and make a comparison to it or any past war is an impossible exercise in misinformation. What we now have is a swarm of armchair generals who can't guarantee the outcome of a football game, but feel they are qualified to criticize and critique a war effort. The reality is that the setbacks in this war don't compare to Pearl, Tarawa, Chosen, The Tet, and thats just a few that quickly come to mind. The one thing that does come to mind is that while the public during WWII got their war news from news reels and newspapers and the quality was dependent on luck of location, now there is so much information much of it has degraded into opinion, rather than news. If we're going to keep this country safe we have to let those with the skill and intelligence fight the wars, not reporters, politicians, or aunts and uncles. -

I've heard transfer them to Okinawa, why I don't know because I thought the Japanese wanted our presence there phased out? -
Catch and Release--What fly will you use?

I like the Mohair, but I think they can also get a little educated, so its good to be versatile, I've had some luck on everything from midge larva to Renegades, but the Mohair is my starting place. -
I agree Crappie. The discussion did bring up a lot of arguments both ways, so after the smoke clears, people will be able to judge the merits of the voters decision.
-
Kudos to them.

Presidential Visit?

My daughter was raised in Oklahoma and Western Missouri and now lives in California, has for quite a few years, and her friends say it takes her a couple of weeks to get rid of her accent after she visits here. -
I agree, spammers are obvious, so don't even look.

it is what our system is based on and the reason, originally, for separation of church and state, which was to protect special interest groups, namely religions other than the Church of England. As long as they can only bring the desire to a vote, it still is working within the framework of the founders. There are often complaints brought about "Special Interest Groups", but all voters belong to that as soon as they find someone with a like agenda.

We put in there recently, but I honestly can't remember whether wading would be an option or not. The fluctuates so much I don't know if it would matter anyway. You should defiantly check it out. They say the Buffalo has a lot of Smallies, but I don't know where.
-
I think someone else is going to do that Tuesday.
-
I don't believe it is GF, I think its well thought out. Well thought out doesn't make it perfect, but its close. If religions can't agree to the moment procreation needs protection, how can a law? The Supreme Court couldn't and they said as much in R vs W. The fact that the argument has turned to financial, in its self could indicate there is some fluctuation in principal. To merely say,"Lets keep thinking about it" is something of a last gasp, isn't it? Couldn't that be construed as an indication that the argument against isn't holding up?

Why no spawning in Bennett Spring?
Wayne SW/MO replied to Flyfisher for men's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Charley I'm not a biologist, but the hatcheries use the spring water for their operation. I do know that Bows require clean gravel to spawn, and the parks don't have clean gravel, nor does Taney. -
This statement does fly in the face of no 2, and I don't see that voting no in order to think it through further gains anything. I think people should read it for themselves and quit listening to those who would distort the meaning, whether for or against. If it passes than those opposed will still have an opportunity to change it, and it should be easier if it tuns out that people were mislead. If it doesn't, and the fear that the people of this state are being shortchanged becomes a reality, then the amendment will be put forth again, with better evidence to support it. .
