  1. Where are you? There are several placees in this area, Taney, etc.
  2. On one of those 3? With the extremely low water in SW Missouri I'm sure the Smallies are vulnerable to many predators. I know MDC will probably not do anything to add protection, so we just have to hope and pray for rain, lots of it.
  3. I agree, and I would like some tougher regs on giggers. New technology has allowed some to gig illegal fish.
  4. I'm thinking that duplicating the salt, weight, and shimmy would be a tough job.
  5. I caught some nice ones out of a bluff hole in November where they are probably wintering. Its a long river, so I guess one just has to search out the accesses.
  6. I'm somewhat familiar with the accesses above Galena.
  7. I've heard that some people do, and they even catch Trout that way.
  8. There are many. If you're interested in trout, then you can access the river from the park down to the boat ramp in the 64 access, across from Sand Springs. You can enter at Barclay as noted. I believe Ho Humm allows access for a fee, maybe someone will chime in on that. that covers the one I'm familiar with. there are some more warmwater accesses above and below. How far you can wade depends on the water level.
  9. I think most of them float off. I've noticed that if you give one a minute or two it will rise off the rock its snagged on. Theres a lot of line, thats for sure. Does your handle indicate a fish and a creek you're partial too?
  10. Are you looking for the river above Galena?
  11. It would be a pain, but you could run a new grip up the blank, build up the area with fiberglass cloth and then slide the grip back into place. I think I would do as Dan suggested, remove the stripper and any other guides, then start over basically.
  12. You don't indicate how much lead time you require, but if you have some, the best time would be when its warm, and if possible, raining. Warm weather will lessen the chance that they will generate and rain will diminish the crowd quite a bit.
  13. Has anyone tried one of the deboners that Cabelas sold some years ago?
  14. Bryant I think thats the remains of Orla. The fish seem to move a lot in the O'Fork and when its hot they seem to prefer sticking their noses in the faster water.
  15. I don't generally fillet them. I gut and gill them, spray them with Olive Oil pan coat, sprinkle a lemon based spice on them, put an onion in the cavity, wrap in AL foil, and cook on an indirect grill. They'll cook in about 15 minutes on a preheated grill. I've also cooked them in the oven and it takes about the same amount of time at 350. You can check for doneness with a toothpick, just don't pierce the bottom foil. I only keep stockers also, so thats the size I'm timing.
  16. You can't run safely to the Pothole. There are reports of some "eyes being caught between Beaver and Barker. Its not that much farther to Beaver to put in.
  17. I make a couple of loops and then snug the thread down while I make sure of my alignment, a couple more to make sure it stays and then make a length adjustment. I don't always trim it. If I'm tying Wooly Buggers in the larger sizes, I wrap over the 'Bou on the shank for bulk and to avoid a step down. Don't overdo the tail. On small flies it doesn't take much for a tail.
  18. I've built a couple and it can be real gratifying. You might check this out. http://www.rodbuilding.org/list.php?2
  19. Don't forget RR has wading and non-wading areas, so waders are optional.
  20. Seth I hold the 'bou between left thumb and index finger and place it a little long and wrap it 2-3 times firmly, then pull it through the wraps to the length you want, normally about shank length, trim and secure. This way you can concentrate on getting the material on the shank properly and worry about the length as a separate issue.
  21. Take 86 West, south of Hollister, stay on it past Eagle Rock until you cross Roaring River, just past the bridge you will come to F, which goes left, take it and it will lead right into the park. There will be more stream if you go to the "T" with hiway 112 and keep bearing right on the road, not the turn offs. You could get there faster by coming into Cassville from the north and taking 112 south, if you weren't planning on coming to Branson for some other reason.
  22. It looks similar to some that Lilley's had at their check out. Don't think there was a name there however.
  23. I often wonder if a national organization is the way to go, or is an area focus best. An area focus, say the highlands of AR, MO, and OK where the Fish close to the hearts of fly fishermen, Smallies and Trout, reside? An Area focus can, or should, let politicians at all levels know they are truly hearing from voters. An area focus can be more attractive to those that don't feel they have the time or ability to address problems facing every area of the nation. Brian if you keep reminding me, and the good Lord's willing, I will be at the clean up. Great idea.
  24. It is kind of depressing when Mr. B Eagle ain't catchin' nothing.
  25. I believe the changes were aimed at increasing the size of fish stocked.
