Put in a Larry Gale about noon with my brother and had 26 crappie and 2 whites by the end of the day. The bite was not good at first but once the sun came out it picked up. Caught quite a few shorts and all the fish we kept were between 10.5 and 13 inches. Threw back several right around the 10 inch mark. Water temp showed in the mid 50s on both sonars. The bite was several feet off the bank and at times was extremely soft. All in all a great day on the water. The day started kinda dreary but turned out beautiful. The second pic is my brother with the first crappie of the day. He only fishes twice a year when he comes up here. He works for the railroad in Texas and is a team roper in his spare time. Love spending time on the water with him.

Thanks for the info. I usually put in at Larry Gale so I am familiar with that. I use the campground when I am working 3-11 so I can get in quick and out in time to get to work. Thats a nice lookin meal there fishinwrench, gonna try to have a fish fry for my family Wednesday. Hope they are bitin.

Sounds like you had a good time. I think my brother and I are going tomorrow. Where do you put in close to Linn Creek? I have put in at the campground but that looked a little shallow when I was there on a road trip a couple weeks ago.
-
You are probably right. Never even thought about that even after the title of my post

Sounds like you had a better day than I did. I had green road runner setting in my cupholder all day and I even thought about tying it on but I never did. I took my dad up into the Little Niangua several years ago and we did very well. One of only a few fishing trips together and he is gone now.

Put in at Larry Gale about 10 am and fished till 2 pm. Fished the cove across from Windermere first and put 4 keepers in the boat between 11 and 13 inches. Caught alot of males in the 7 to 9 inch range. Fished the docks at the entrance of Windermere cove and caught a bunch of little males not far off the bank, most under 8 inches. Seen water temps between 49 and 50. It was a good day to be on the water when the sun was out. My brother is coming in from Texas next week for our annual crappie run, hope it gets a little better. I have never been up there when the lake is this low. Don't know if I am earlier than usual or it is lower than usual but all my hotspots were high and dry but the lake is due to come up starting today.

I put a 19 foot fish and ski in and out at Larry Gale today. No problems, should be fine.
-
Thanks for the info. I may try to get up there in the next few days.

Is Larry Gale good with the low water? I haven't ever been up there when the water has been low like this and it seems like even in normal water the end of that ramp isn't very deep.
-
Wharfrat, do you know of a place to put in down by 54 bridge? I used to put in at Roach and run down there but gas was a lot cheaper then. Don't mind payin a few dollars to use a ramp if one is available.

Sounds like Wednesday may be the best, and last day this week. Wish I could be there but the furnace needs wood.

Thanks for the report. I wanted to get out this past week. Had plans to go three days but I tweaked my back working on my daughter's car last week. Spent my five days off in the recliner and was rewarded with an MRI this morning. Maybe I will get out next week. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.

Whites And Crappie 11/11. Happy Veterans Day

I know the feeling crittermo. I am more of a fisher than a hunter so I only rifle hunt. I think the best is yet to come. The water was 57 degrees and I think it is a little better closer to 50. I may go again on Thursday. Fishinwrench, I bet those were a lot of fun on a fly rod. The wind was a little weird for me. Seemed like it would blow for a while then be dead calm. We were off the lake by 3:30 so we beat the bad stuff. Drove home in the rain tho. -
It was a great day to be on the lake. Overcast with a little wind just before a cold front. Thought it would be a little better but it wasn't terrible. Took a friend of mine from church that had never been white bass fishing before. We ended the day with 16 nice white bass and 2 crappie. He had a blast. One was a really nice hybrid. Whether or not you like to eat them they are a blast to catch. The crappie were pretty good. One about 11 and one between 12 and 13. I will try to post some pics later. Didn't catch anything on the points even though it looked like it should be good out there. Caught em all from about half way back of the coves to the back. Put in at Roach and fished mainly across the lake from Windermere. It's gonna get good before too long. Happy Fishin.

I have been eating whites for several years. I fished with an older gentleman from work and he showed me a little trick to get ride of the red. After filleting and before you cut out the ribs, turn the fillet over and skim that red meat off with the fillet knife. I use an electric knife and it slices that red meat off, don't know how well it works with a regular knife. If the little streak that is left is big I go ahead and slice it out before I fry them but if it is just a little streak I leave it in there and have had no complaints from anyone.

Put in at Roach and fished for about three hours across the lake from Windermere. Wound up with six nice whites and 2 crappie. Didn't catch anything on the windy points like I thought I would. Both coves I fished in had docks about half way back. I caught all the whites from the docks to the back of the cove. It was a lot of fun, even the few short whites I caught felt like big fish. Hooked into one that immediatly broke my line, must a been a big one (or thats what I'm tellin folks). One crappie was about 11 and the other was around 12. Going again next Tuesday and taking a guy from church for his first time catching the white bass. Would like to put him on whites and crappie. May try Shawnee Bend.

My best fishing memories are those when I had my kids with me. Even if they didn't do anything but play with the fish in the livewell and eat all the snacks, it was a good day. Fishing and hunting are a good anti drug for the kids growing up in today's world. It can be a scary place for the little ones. My youngest one is 17 now and doesn't have the time for fishin with dad but will again someday.

Crappie To Be Had, But Need To Work For Them.
stuartsx5 replied to WHARFRAT's topic in Lake of the Ozarks
Well, this is kinda late. Been dealing with raising kids and all that entails since we been home. Fished last Tuesday and Wednesday on the Glaize. Put in at PB 2 and fished all the points and backs of cove to the 54 bridge. It was tough. Caught 8 on Tuesday and 7 on Wednesday. Size was nice but the numbers were small. Have to work Sunday night so I might go again Monday afternoon when I get up. -

Thats a nice one. What kind of crank were you using. I am very inexperienced on crank baits and such. Jigs is about all I have ever fished with. -

Well, that is certainly a nice one. Hope the afternoon proves to be better. I've never fished with cranks, only jigs and minnows. If the cranks work I may have to get some. -

I usualy fish up from there at Roach but have started exploring other areas. Like the Shawnee Bend area and PB 2 but Roach will always be my go to place as the water gets cooler in November and December. Good luck and stay warm. -

They were all caught around docks, Wharfrat. Most of em came from one dock, must of been a bed there. My boat is new to me and I didn't realize until on the water that the locator didn't work so I don't have any idea how deep of water I was in. Caught all of them on a Kalins Fire Tiger on a 1/16 ounce jig head. Thanks for the birthday wish, my wife and I share the same birthday and we will be 45 Thursday. I will post next weekend on our results from the trip. Good luck on your trip, where will you be fishing? We are hoping to find a place around Horseshoe Bend so we can fish the Shawnee Bend area or maybe around the Grand Glaize bridge. Maybe we will run across ya on the water. -

My brother is up from Texas for a fall fishing trip. We put in at Shawnee Bend Monday and fished for about 4 hours and wound up with 11 crappie and 2 whites between us. Caught most of the crappie in one spot. Only had one crappie under 12 and he was 10 1/2. Not much quantity but good quality. Put in at Roach Tuesday after the rain and caught one small white and a million dink blue gill. My wife and I are planning a trip Tuesday thru Thursday next week up around Osage Beach for our birthday get away. We'll see how it is then. -
It's been awhile since I first posted this so I thought I would give an update. After much deliberation and looking at A LOT of boats, we bought the Quantum last weekend. For better or worse it is stable in the water and drives just like my old bayliner. The Force motor ran out smooth and the boat was solid. I will let you all know how we get along with it. Thanks again for all the input.

Thanks for all the input guys. I feel like a leech sometimes on this site cause it seems I am always askin for advice and rarely giving it. Maybe one of these days I will be able to help someone else. I will take all this info into consideration as I search for my next boat.
