  1. Seems strange that they are releasing that much water from Table Rock since it is at normal power pool and Bull Shoals is 22 feet over power pool. You would think they would hold water back at TR. Also looks like they are going to be running Norfork full blast for awhile.
  2. Looks like a good deal. A 5wt is perfect for the White/Norfork/Taney.
  3. Ran the boat down to Roundhouse this morning and then got out and waded the west side of the shoals. Hooked a good brown that had me chasing him down the shoreline for about 100 yards. He jumped 4 or 5 times and looked to be in the 25/26" range. He almost spooled me twice and just when I thought I had him under control he ran under a limb and broke the 6x tippet. Oh well, that's why they call it fishing and not catching. Walked back up to the chute where I hooked him and had a good morning with lots of rainbows and a couple cuts. Caught a few on small dry flies early and then switched to the Y2K/midge combo. Here's a couple of the better rainbows...
  4. Thanks Jesters. That is a pig! Congrats tp Phil
  5. Sounds like a big one... Can somebody post a simple pic of the fish? We have very limited internet and can't watch a 24 minute video without using up all of our data for the month. That is one downside to living in the sticks.
  6. My wife and I made a trip to Ackerman Access this morning. She hooked a nice brown that was at least 20" on her third or fourth cast and after a good fight it broke off as I was trying to net it. Probably my fault as I did see a pigtail on the end of the tippet which means my knot slipped. I didn't tell her about that. There were LOTS of trout midging on the surface but I couldn't find anything they wanted so we pretty much stuck with the Y2K/ruby midge combo. We caught lots of rainbows, 2 cuts and she caught another brown that was 16". Here's a few pics of the better fish...

  8. I think the Eleven Point between Greer and Turner accesses is the prettiest river I have been on up here. Only problem with your wish list is there are no browns.
  9. It's the best occupation I have ever had.šŸ˜„
  10. My wife was out working in the garden the other day and came across this little guy. We are new to country living and thought is was abandoned by the mother. Googled it and found out the mother places it in the same place each morning and then goes and feeds and comes back in the evening to take care of it. Then she places it right back in the same spot the next morning. Pretty cool watching the mother come back to nurse it and take it away for the night. I really need to mow that area once that little guy starts feeding on his own.
  11. Small is good. I am not a great fly tier so I figure make em small so the trout can't see the imperfections.
  12. Waded a bit upstream from Ackerman access this morning. There were lots of trout midging when I got there so I tried various small dries but only managed a few takes on a size 22 parachute Adams. After about an hour of that I switched to a pair of size 18 ruby midges under an indicator and started getting some decent fish. Ended the morning with some really fat rainbows, a few small cutties (1 of which was a Bonneville) and this pretty brown. Beautiful day out there and quite a few fishermen out.
  13. Moss is still a problem but not as bad as a few weeks ago. From what I understand it grows in the late winter/early spring during high water releases, which we had earlier this year. Then when the water goes down it dies and floats down the river. It is not much of a problem if you are dead drifting a fly with the current but if you try to swing a fly or try to strip back upstream you will pick up a wad. BTW that stuff is pretty tough to clear off the line/lure🤬.
  14. Sounds like a good outing. I saw that bad water a couple of days ago after fishing at Ackerman. I drove down to the Norfork confluence and it looked like the Mississippi . I've had better fishing from Cotter upstream to the dam. No big feeder creeks to mess up the water. Water is clear and starting to see some Sulphur's hatching.
  15. Fortunately there are not very many ugly trout.šŸ˜„
  16. Looks like a pretty river and some good smallmouth water.
  17. Went up to Bull Shoals Dam this morning since the river was muddy from the rain runoff here at Cotter. There were some small mayflies and midges hatching so I tied on a size 18 Parachute Adams. Caught quite a few rainbows, 1 cutthroat, this nice brown and a really fat rainbow...
  18. Made a trip to Ackerman Access this morning. Water was scheduled to be at minimum flow until early afternoon. There were lots of midges and what looked like small tan colored mayflies coming up. I caught a few nice rainbows on a size 22 Griffith's gnat and then saw a few (very few) caddis come up. They didn't last long as the trout pounced on them. I put a size 18 elk hair on and caught some more rainbows and then got this nice brown. Hatch pretty much died out around 10 am but caught a few more on midges, eggs and a couple on a soft hackle. Beautiful day out there and very few fisherman out.
  19. Relative to the question on what to expect on WR flows, I copied this note from USACE concerning the high water situation on the White river from the TU Facebook page. (It is a couple weeks old)... USACE LR ADDRESSES OUR RIVER FLOWS, WHAT TO EXPECT AND BOATING SAFETY 05/24/2019 Laurie Driver, Public Affairs Specialist with the Corps of Engineers in Little Rock, was very kind to answer our questions and provide clarification, regarding the high-water situation the White River System is currently experiencing. Laurie wanted to stress, first and foremost, safe boating practices, given the holiday weekend. The most critical safety precaution is to always wear a personal flotation device/life jacket. With a lot of boats on the river, you may be confident in your boating skills, but you can’t be confident in the boating skills of others. We first asked Laurie if the Arkansas River flooding in Oklahoma would have any bearing on the decision-making with regards to the White River System, releases and generation. She explained that all the flood control, on the Arkansas River, is managed in Oklahoma. Their flood control lakes are full, so that water will run, uncontrolled, through Arkansas, to the Mississippi River. The situation will not affect the decision-making for our rivers. She explained the chain of flood control lakes in Oklahoma operate much like the chain of lakes in the White River System. Laurie affirmed that the gauge for release management is at Newport. At 19 ft, as of this writing, the gauge needs to drop to 12 ft, before generation will ramp-up. Until then, we will experience periods of minimum flow, mixed with moderate flows, for an estimated 6 days. Before or after 6 days, all the lakes are expected to reach the top flood pool. Flood gates will be opened and with maximum generation, there will be significant flooding downstream. When the lakes reach their top flood pool, there are no other variables. There’s no ā€œgray areaā€. It’s essentially automatic…it is time to dump the water! The situation with record flooding on the lower Mississippi river will probably become more untenable. In the interim, get out there, have fun and be safe. There should be ideal water for wading and boating at different times of the day. Unfortunately, however, according to Laurie, once releases begin, we will have high water, downstream from Bull Shoals dam, until approximately mid-August.

  21. Yes, I don't think it has missed many meals. I could barely get my hand around it. Cool thing was that it hit late morning with the sun up and I saw it come up and take the fly.
  22. Looks like a fun day. It was beautiful out there today.
  23. Caught this fatty at Roundhouse Shoals this morning swinging a soft hackle. She put up a good fight and gave me several jumps completely out of the water. I caught some on dry flies early (parachute Adams and elk hair caddis) and then around a dozen or so on the soft hackle later in the morning.
  24. Perhaps that was the other guy that was selling his old boat????
  25. I would have to think he is going with the 50/35hp Tohatsu on a 20x52. They are great motors. Will like to see the finished product. How much fun to get to design and build your dream river boat! BTW power trim is one big thing I miss on my little rig. My Mercury 25 jet is really hard to lift up for us old guys since it has a low center of gravity. https://www.tohatsu.com/outboards/35jet.html
