  1. thanks for keeping us up to date blazerman, i was bummed because i couldn't make it down last weekend to fish but i feel a little better since they weren't hitting really well, with that said i would love to have 15 in the freezer like you.....good job
  2. they say that the draw down is to compensate for spring rains i believe, pretty stupid if you ask me but when has amerun ever done anything with common sense. amerun never has a clue about anything with the lake, if they can't steal your land then they screw up your fishing with changing lake levels. just my opinion, not trying to aggravate anyone.
  3. I used to hear stories about people driving on the lake when it was frozen back in the 40's & 50's, any truth to that?
  4. nice eyes paul, i would love to get into some of those! where they caught on the megabass 110?
  5. thanks for the update stuartxs5, please keep us informed as the fishin gets better. i was down last weekend and i was deer hunting. it was killing me not to be out fishing but i opted to bowhunt instead.......i should have gone fishin
  6. i have an alumacraft 175 trophy sport that i keep on loz and it is great to fish out of. it is an aluminum deep v. i take it to canada every year and it handled those big lakes until two years ago. got caught in a major storm with huge rollers 8 miles from the cabin. i made it back, but the rough ride busted my dash in half, some from me holding onto the steering wheel for dear life and some from the incredibly rough ride. when i got home i called alumacraft and they wouldn't put me through to the owner of the company and they wouldn't do anything to help me repair it. It cost $1,400. to repair and they said that wasn't covered under warranty. my opinion is to buy a deep v but stay away from alumacraft, their customer service sucks.
  7. thanks for the information wharfrat, it is very helpful
  8. i'm going down to the lake this weekend for some bass fishing. i'll be up around the gravois and dam area. does anyone know the best time of day, what depth and what they are hitting on in that area. thank you for your help
  9. there is a campground at the 4MM of the main channel. is it right on the lake (in the very back of the old "hawaiian island" cove). it is off of lake road W-12. sorry, i forget the name of it. good luck!
  10. lighten up old plug, take a break
  11. nice crappie! good job to your son
  12. lighten up bigeye, if you read his post correctly he said he didn't shoot it. personally, i would have shot the dung out of it, poisonous or not
  13. i'd like to help but i'm up close to the dam at the 5MM. up here the water is stained and i found beds this afternoon and caught a few on a white fluke. i'm going to hit a few spots in the morning where i know the bass spawn and see what i can find out. at your end of the lake i'm not really sure what's happening. sorry
  14. thanks for the info. i wish i was closer to ha ha tonka, i like walleye fillets as much or better than crappie. i am at the 5mm up by the dam so that would be a long trek for me. i hope to go fishing tomorrow but not sure yet. i'll let you know if i do any good.
  15. thanks for the info wharfrat & mopanfisher, i appreciate it. did you ever notice that the the fishing is always better "yesterday" or "you should have been here last week"
  16. had you been seeing the bass on beds? that 6-lber i caught was a female with a full belly. i played soccer with a jim dunn in st. louis many years ago. did you play soccer? i'm sure there's a lot of jim dunn's out there
  17. Hello, Does anyone have any updates on what the bass & crappie are doing on LOZ. Any ideas on where we are on the spawning phases?
  18. sorry to take so long to get back yo you. i was keeping my boat in water anywhere from 12-15 feet and they were hitting 1/2 way back, so probably in 6-8 feet of water. it actually slowed as the weekend went on and sunday was great weather but fishing was a bit slower for bass.
  19. Bass fished today in the miserable weather but I caught a bunch of smaller ones and a few nice ones, my biggest was 6 lbs. Caught them all on a white zoom fluke. Weird thing was, they all hit about halfway back to the boat. Nothing shallow close to the bank. I was surprised that they were out that far. If anybody is talkin, what are you catching them on and how close to the bank?
  20. thanks for the valuable info laker67, please keep us posted as the week goes on, i'm coming down this weekend to turkey hunt but i would love have a mess of crappie to go with a turkey leg.
  21. Beabouts Bait & Tackle is pretty close to there. They are at 4398 Highway 54. It's gonna be tough fishin with this crappie weather that we are supposed to be gettin. Sorry for the pun.
  22. i forgot i'll be turkey hunting in the mornings so i'll have to see how they're biting in the afternnon.
  23. buzzbaits not yet for me but with the water warming it's a great time to try. i'm heading down tomorrow and i'm going to give it a try. in the dirty water i use the chartreuse ringworm and chartreuse or white spinner bait with a white twin tail. just my preference. this time of year i rig a few rods. if i get a hit on a buzzbait and miss the fish and it doesn't come back to hit it again i pick up another rod and throw a spinnerbait or ringworm and it usually does the trick.
  24. i can't help you much on where to go at that end of the lake but i do know as the water keeps warming up my best baits are sluggo type baits, spinnerbaits and even topwater. at this time of year i have my best luck (for me personally) with the sluggo baits and my go bait to for the last few years has been the lake fork ringworm rigged like a sluggo in chartreuse but probably most colors will work. i hit the main lake points first in the mornings and if that isn't working i work my way back into the coves and hit secondary points and any docks that look like they might have brush. at this time of year it just keeps getting better and better so if one lure doesn't work go through the tacklebox and try something else, i'm sure jigs and worms on the bottom will work though i don't fish those too often. i also always have a alabama rig tied on and i throw it every once in a while but it is not my best confidence bait. if you use the alabama rig make sure you only use 3 lures on it DO NOT USE ALL 5 it is illegal in missouri. it is also a great time to have a crappie rig set up for when you do come by some docks with brush. i first fish them hard for bass and then go back through to see if i can pick up a few crappie for dinner. it's great to be on the lake at anytime this time of year! good luck
  25. this is a decent webpage. i was down there over the weekend and the warmest water that i found was 53 degrees so i'm not sure how accurate the temps are on this site. if you google LOZ water temps you should be able to find more info. http://server.odd.net/waterlevel/
