Since you cant seem to stop i wont either.....Look back at the time period after the second world war to the early 1980s. The wealthiest americans paid a SIGNIFICANTLY higher tax rate...and guess what...they were still rich, the last 30 years has been a miserable failure for everyone except the very rich. Im not sure how familiar you are with the sliding tax scale, but the wealthiest americans who currently benefit most from the capitalistic system are paying about the same as working folks when you factor in a pathetically low capitol gains tax. Since most wealth in the country is made via capitol gains, not working americans, more money you make this way, the less it is taxed....hence the major incentive to make money, is in finance/wall street...actual innovators and developers (STEM) arent paid anything comparatively. Why make money through work when you can simply trade stocks that were given to you by your wealthy family right? Earned income tax for these people is taxed at 36% i believe, but if you make 90% of your money via capitol gains your rate averages out to the the low 20% if that. That is just bass akwards. Somehow suggesting that taxes be restructured the way they were 50 years ago so communistic or socialistic or whatever. Were we commies in the 60s and 70s? No politicians on either side like to talk about tax rates in the past. The rich havent paid their fair share for 50 years. Also, Nobody complains about socialized police departments or fire departments, we take it for granted (what if your house was burning down and the fire department had to call your insurance company for a prior authorization..."sir we are waiting on approval, please be patient). Unfortunately both republicans and democrats are only concerned about who is paying them the most, and thats all. Since the rich have the most money they get what they want, all they have to do is convince the working class that its best for everyone this way. im kind of a democrat by default only cuz they suck a little less. I guess it just blows my mind how the ultra wealthy have convinced everyone that whats best for working class folks is something more along the lines of a flat tax. The american dream was never that you could be super rich, but that you could work hard and make a living to provide for your family. The perpetual myth from the right is that if you work hard, youll be rich, if you dont youll be poor. So..if your poor..it must be because your lazy, and if your rich, it must be cause you worked so hard to get all your money. IN reality history has shown, and now is no different that its quite the other way around.

Sweet crappie! Ive always wanted to catch out of a river, but have never been able to catch more than 1 or 2 at a time. Nice smallies too.

Well I posted in detail exactly how when and where we murder fish. IT Has not been destroyed in 30 plus years and not likely to be by us. Try those places out...im being honest. Table rock is different from the mineral fork though. Doesn't get fished out like a small creek. Also The fish we have caught have always been the same 2-4lb black bass that everyone always catches. Whoever ate these giant bass outta old table rock wasn't us. We catch mostly kentuckies. The occasional big lm and sm. Lots of large bluegills also. Another thing I forgot to mention was that I don't just post up at the piling all day and hang crawlers. It's much more effective to fish slow but move fast. 20 min on one side....20 min on another side...check for scattered fish move on. If fish aren't biting check another area. Kentuckies are on the move and you should be too in order to stay with em. I hit these same areas over and over. In rotation. Places like this are highway rest stops for hungry schools of spots.

The first statement is totally incorrect...thats the reason the laws are in place...like i said i am in favor of very very strict regulation (and enforcement)for conservation management. You dont think companies will pollute as much as they can get away with? Thats why we need very very strict environmental laws to prevent folks from taking advantage of a resource and destroying it. Keeping a limit of bass every time out says your a responsible fisherman and abiding by the laws. If fish populations decrease, the regulations are adjusted. What this boils down too are knee jerk emotional reactions with no basis in reality. I mean, certainly not conservation management...if it did folks would be more supportive of the MDC. Anybody volunteer at a place like powder valley or world bird sanctuary? Donate money to the MDC? Clean up trash? support local legislature that promotes healthy conservation management? Not likely.....but we all catch and release our bass so we are holier than hour, and im some jerk. Could you imagine sarah McLaughlin singing to a spotted bass "in the arrrrrmmmmmssss of the angeeellllllllls" very very touching, but just as those commercials, its appealing to an emotional side, and not a rational side. Even if you did offer me a position on your boat id have to respectfully decline. Didnt you ask about the size of my penis? Or my mom hugging me? Weird....and gross....Plus..your boat is probably way too shiny and fancy for someone like lowly old me.
-
oh cmon man that was a joke, ive never actually done anything like that. Im humane. I just couldnt resist with the sensitivity on such matter around here...
-
Well...Im an oddball..i wont argue with that. Ya, I am weird about the environment, im very very strongly supportive of strict environmental regulation (I work in paint...we are big time polluters and will only do as much as we are forced to cuz its $$$$), as well as strict conservation management. Id never poach, however I view life not as the individual so much, but more along the lines of proliferation of the species. If the system is healthy, then so will its inhabitants. Table rock is quite healthy, the conservation department thinks so, and my anecdotal evidence, as well as eveyone elses indicates the same thing. So to me, a bag of dead fish isnt offensive anymore than a box of apples. This is very reasonable. And so is this.

Here is exactly where when and how every one of these fish were caught. 1.) Hwy 13 bridge pilings...obvious. The second piling from the north end is the most effective in my experience during summer (but through deer season the few times i fished in november), also the middle piling can be good. The shallower two on the south end are significantly less productive IMO. Boat in 190-210 feet of water. Fish thermocline depths with worms or spoons. If you have a graph Look from the second piling out to where the old bridge and the new bridge make an X. Even though its 100ft down i think the old bridge has some effect. This is a late/morning and midday deal when boat traffic is pretty much unmanageable, but those fish are very easy targets. I remember an old man once was trolling figure 8's between all the pilings, and he said cloudy days they will scatter between them, and sunny days hold tight. Made sense. 2.) Point 7. Point 7 has an old creek channel that is perpendicular and makes it look as if its "pinched" off. Work that channel, and the small secondary point adjacent to it. I typically will position the boat in deep water, sometimes over 100ft, casting into from 10-30ft. Also, the channel backs right up against point 7 and goes WAAYYYYY out to sea, hence the bouys. That ledge is very effective. I have also caught several fish directly up on the point itself, never had much luck on the "flat" side facing south though. Once again...worms...spoons...trolled cranks. This year i practiced a bit with a jig n craw trailer and it worked. 3.) Schooner creek. The eastern side of schooner is loaded with bass...just everywhere, probably all the time, but def in the summer. The main lake point shaped like a thumb is very productive for me. The channel swings in by the bank, boat in 60-90ft casting to 15-25ft. Work that whole bank, but the point is very productive. Also the secondary point and its adjacent bank are quite effective. When I was little we used to fish the deep docks on the other side of the creek and do well, but i havent in years as ive been told its not allowed anymore or something....IDK. Few things....most of these fish were caught quite deep. There will always be fish caught shallow....but IMO on table rock...there will always be deep fish (relative to the oxygen level), and they are easier for me to catch for sure. What i tend to do is position the boat well offshore, over very deep water...then cast into but past where I suspect fish to be holding...then after counting the bait down, i try to retrieve horizontally. I dont think that ive ever caught a fish at table rock within 20 feet of the bank. Shallow for me is 8-10ft deep is over 100. If I pick up a bite and can locate a particular depth that they seem to be active, then i will position the boat over that depth and fish parallel to the bank. This often unfolds in the boat being in 35-45 feet and making a diagonal cast into about 15 to 20FOW. Now even though you all hate me, you can go catch some fish courtesy of me!

Its a reasonable attitude is what it is. I can promise that i care more for the resource and conservation than most anyone in here, and do more to protect it....instead of just talking about "sketchy science" I actually get involved and care about conservation managment, its just that i dont get a boner for bass. I dont poach, and i dont kill for no reason. What i kill is consumed. The resource is not harmed at all by keeping fish...but the whiny people on this forum apparently are. The upset folks here are superficially upset. They really dont care for the resource as much as they think, especially if they are participating in tournaments.

Its funny that im the one that pisses people off, when other people make the most retarded comments and all i do is call them out. Guess the truth kinda stings a little bit. I post reports all the time, and I post pics of fish on a board....all the time...yet the only forum that girls cry about it is here on this one. If posting fish pics on a fishing website upsets you that much, find another hobby....how can you justify torturing that poor creature by shoving barbed steel through its precious mouth? THen pulling it from its habitat only to snap a picture and throw it back....seems kinda degrading. Do you torture your pets at home like that? The hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Lol so bass dont reproduce? Moron? Why do people call me names on here? Also that wasnt the point i was making...the point i was making is that the fish are conditioned differently. The typical uneducated response is to call people names when another argument cant be made...You most vote republican hahahahahaha. Lol didnt i sell you old wiggle warts? I ripped you off, you paid 10 dollars for crappy old lures...your the moron, also arent you in chiropractor school? and your calling me dumb? Mommy and daddy sure bought you a nice truck and boat, very nice.

I have no doubt that a megabass is a great lure. And im sure there will always be days where one jerkbait outshines another.....lots of days it may even be that megabass, i just cant wrap my head around 27 dollars for a lure! Too scared to fish with it!
-
oh cmon that was pretty funny!! Your just a sour puss over bass, if i said that about any other fish or animal, or hell even a person probably you couldnt care less. Do you snuggle your bass to sleep everynight too? Never tried in january, but we do alright in august. Im really surpised there are even any bass in table rock anymore. I think its all fished out...

You answered your question about table rock when it was first dammed up. New lake, new growth, less competition, no carrying capacities or equilibriums had been established. Things were good for top predators....also these large bass were foraging near the shoreline where they were accessible by fisherman, and these fish had never seen lures before. I think that table rock probably has just as many large fish as it ever has had, but many of those fish are simply uncatchable since they are rarely associated with bank structure, or even offshore structure that everyone targets. Bait in table rock is often time out in the middle of nowhere, not related to the bank structure. I think table rock has lots of large bass that simply follow shad schools around all the time and arent concerned with shoreline structure or artificial presentations. If your not puting 7-9 inch live gizzard shad in front of them they are simply not that intersted. An example of this is Lake 33 at BW in st louis. The deepest part of the lake is 12ft (so shocking is effective). The conservation department shocks up 30% of bass over 18inches, and several over 7#. Thats a small lake loaded with huge bass...yet most folks never catch em, yes a few will. A few more are good at it...but when I go, i may catch 10-15 bass in a morning and the biggest one is maybe 17inches long if im having a good day. My catch rates would indicate most of the fish being 13-14inches, but its been proven there are lots of large ones, my guess is that a 100 acre lake that gets that sort of fishing pressure doesnt hurt the fish any, but conditions them to be more selective and less opportunistic.

Yup thats the exact same one that i have. I like the fenwick warranty alot too. I broke the butt of an aetos in a car door, and they sent me a replacement no questions asked. The great part is that they send me a whole new rod, so now i have a spare tip section when i break that off! I am ALWAYS in the market for a new light power crappie rod, Im gonna be ordering one of these for sure...especially since its cheap! I break off the tip of all my 1pc rods if they are longer than 6ft, almost completely converted to 2pc rods now (gotta couple of 1pc rods hanging on). Car doors, truck beds, and door jams are just murderers of high modulus graphite rods.

You might be surprised just how far one can flop, especially if its down hill.

Hey thats a great day!! Nice to see. My family and I try to eat as much wild game/fish/and wild and homegrown edibles as much as possible. I have found that squirrels and rabbits are about my favorite non fish game. I think they eat better than venison, and any wild bird, and they are significantly easier to catch and kill lol. As soon as we get a hard freeze i start packing the freezer with grey squirrels and rabbits. Glad to see folks enjoying small game.

1.) Sorry to the original poster, i imagine that reports from him will become few and far between, which is highly unfortunate cuz its clear he knows what hes doing. Dead, alive, filleted, swimming, bleeding...it doesnt matter, most here are just griping because somebody killed "their" bass, and they cant put up numbers like that in the end of january. For the record, cold water fish taste better, and those fish will be wonderful. Those are some great bass! 2.) About the tournament thing....personally i think they are the dumbest thing ever. I think it totally would take the fun out of fishing and make it stressful, but i cant help but think....table rock is a thriving fishery, and bass are super prolific, adaptable and opportunistic. So how exactly are all the tournaments causing trouble? I dont do the whole LOZ nonsense...but i think the bass there still survive, and are doing ok despite being treated like sports equipment. With all the complaining going on, can anyone actually point to evidence that it harms the fishery?
-
Ya that was my pathetic attempt at sarcasm, expensive jerk baits are dumb. I like RC Stx quite a bit, I also like xraps, even though most folks dont seem too. I mean...seriously, it looks like a minnow, new ones have the weight transfer deal so you can cast em further, thats good, but cheap new ones do too. I think they all need a hook upgrade, and I like to put feathers on em and paint em up all pretty.
-
I guess trout are more willing to eat cheap jerkbaits than bass, thats good. Bass have such expensive tastes in minnow imitations.
-
I wonder how much this can really effect the fishery? Im curious how quickly they can adapt to a new environment, even if its strikingly similar to their previous one? It cant be as bad as makin sandwiches out of em, but does it actually hurt/kill the fish? or prevent them from reproducing?

And to think you can new a brand spankin new one for 6 bucks.

Buying my first boat
mjk86 replied to moguy1973's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Same problem with my seats, they are now taped up with gorilla tape....very very professional, and its lasted 3 or 4 years now. Only cost me 20 bucks. -
Maybe we have different models of river runner. Is yours an ultralight? Mine is a 6ft 9 light fast 2pc, comparing it to the avid its quite similar in action. Also a light fast, but its 6ft 6. It can sure sling a tiny jig a long ways. Im a fan of the presidents for sure, i have several, although i tend to like reels with a larger spool diameter now. Also, i think folks tend to put too small of reels on spinning gear, IMO a spinning reel smaller than i size 30 is useless. Mine has a size 35 arbor. The larger reel handles line better and balances the rod better...just my 2 cents.

Hey thanks...im gonna try this out!! Currenly i use a fenwick river runner light fast 2piece for crappie, Also im a fan of the silverhawks for the cheaper price. Ill def be ordering one of these to try it out. I also have a st croix avid that i use thats a 6ft 6 light fast...its a wonderful rod, but i think the river runner is just as good and casts a 64th oz jig further, and its cheaper.
