I love to fish for the whites. My area of LOZ has been bad this year. 90 % real small whites. I do not care for the taste of them however.

Crappie To Be Had, But Need To Work For Them.
Old plug replied to WHARFRAT's topic in Lake of the Ozarks
Nice crappie are stating to show up at my dick now. I can go down there ans catch 3-4 then i have to leave for a couplechours and come back and catch a few more. It should keep on improving till the water gets to cold and they drop down and bunch up with everything else off the point at. 30 ft or better. My neighbor is will pluck them out this year. My season is over. I have two surgeries coming up tgatare going to keep me somewhat still till early spring. -
Thats true wrench but like i told you the supposed best deigned the Obama health care rollout and now HUD has been calling my son in law and some others asking them to come rescue the mess. I jut do not trust the best most of the time

I agree with that.but it may not be practical in some cases such a gar fishing and unhooking large catfish. It would not be easy to unhook a 5 lb bass or larger fish either with a treble or two hooks in his mouth by leaning over the side of a deep V boat.

Choosing The Right Jerkbaitand Methods To Use Them
Old plug replied to drew03cmc's topic in Smallmouth Talk
I fished the upper Meremec an Huzzah for several yrs in the early 60's. I cannot remember ever uding anything like a Rogue or Rapala. I can remember using a few plugs that bumped the bottom but other than that it was all jig, plastic worms and top waters. Looking back i would have been using a awful lot of the things you all call sinko's. That is another bait you can rig different ways and roll it through and around in the current. That was my way then. Think it would be now on a river. I just spent the last couple of dandy kentucky bass fishing with those sinko type lures with the hook just stuck through one end of it. I got a real good fluke type action doing that. -
I still believe break offs are mostly caused by the angler not knots or line. Things like checking the lines condition( thats easy to do with Mono) but not with braid. Sloppy knots also. I have a habit of running my fingers over the first 3 ft of my line frequently during the day I can feel abrasions and cuts in mono. But you will not in braid because it is soft. Inability or negligence checking your line while fishing might be the largest of all reasons for breaks. Fish do not care much about line. They might care though about the sound coming from it. Also as far as what they see remember some can see colors beyond our range. So who knows what they see a line as.

For The Big Rriver Freaks Like Me
Old plug replied to Smalliebigs's topic in General Angling Discussion
Well it would depend on where you were. As far pollution goes. Those rivers get run over now with every summer person around. They use the rivers for a potty chair among other things. I think there is more of a pollution threat today than then. But back then there was no conservation dept. People took what they wanted. I know in some areas like around Onandaga Cave dynamite was popular. My wife's grandfather did a lot of it. -
I like Fireline Chief. I only use it for crappie fishing a 1/16 th oz jig in early season because it creates a very very slow sink.

According to them the darn would not break sudden it would be more like a surge. I think that is because the darn would crumble and it would result in a slower longer release. yeah I thought of all those hybrids coming down here. I bet though what was left in the shallows up there and did not get out would smell from Kansas to Illinois. After what happened down on table rock last year I am not sure something like they were training for would be possible here. Does anyone recall what the criticism was when they were building Truman about the dirt fill. I know there was something can not remember.
-
Lets hope it could not happen
-
Did anyone read the piece in the paper last week about the disaster drill that for the lake region ? It was about what would happen if We had some very unusual weather and Truman got to high and failed. If they practice drills it must be remotely possible. I seem to recall there was some negative talk when they were building Truman about all the earthen fill that went into the darn because of the capacity. But if it ever did happen it would be something terrible for sure

SCOTT i did that and it worked for a few days and the spell check returned. I am awful suspect of all the break up I have with WIFI and it kind of makes me loose track. Another thing is my wife and granddaughter load this thing up with games and music and what have you. I have a lot of interference with that stuff showing up when its not suppose to,locking the rotation, removing my WIFI. The other night I started to type and it split the keyboard in half. Made two tiny half screen on each side of the screen. I pushed them together and then the whole keyboard jumped to the top of the screen and i could not get it to return. While i was trying to find something up jumps a page from I Tunes. I deleted it and everything cleared up. This thing is not going to be here much longer i can tell you that.

mitch i would think twice about arguing with his first wife. I know her. Think she could hold her own kicking some rear ends.

Yeah wayne I have one. But this Ipad has a program that anticipates what you want is the only way I can describe it. That coupled with the fact that I am a one fingered typist who has to look at the keyboard with my sausage fingers is just getting to be to much. Right now. I am up in Hermann at my daughters home and I do not seem to have the problems here I do at home. She and her husband are both computer consultants and she just hates the IPad. I have had it insert a word totally on its own. The reason for that is I am slow and sometimes you get a few letters down for a word and it writes a word it thinks you mean. I have shut off some if the spelling programs and they come back. To much BS for. A 74 yr old.

Wayne there is no doubt anyone in his boots has trouble. A good part of my time working for the Dept of the Army was dealing with Batan Death March survivors. I had 14 five drawer file cabinets full of POW diaries that were used in the war crimes trials. The Japanese were very very brutal believe me. So he has my support as a POW. He also has my support for many of the positions he took as a senator. Enough said about that.

The only show of power we had was some countries establish international boundaries on the ocean way out. I have ben on excusions far inside those boundaries on more than one occasion. It was sort of get up in there faces thing. I been so close to a couple of those countries you could see features. They had a hick name for that old carrier i was on they called it the galloping ghost of any coast. As far as Mc Cain and hot shot fighter pilots. He never flew a fighter. He flew a A4 that is a light dive bomber. After a few of the stunts he pulled most pilots would have been put on permanent non flight status. First plane he destroyed was a AD Skyhawk. He said the engine failed as he was making his approach. He also said he was looking at his flaps because he did hot feel they were were they should be. The investigative board however found water in the top of his engine cylinders. That means the engine was running when he hit the water. i will venture to say he was watching his flaps and flew right in.

Mc cain was after my time. I am not intending this as political. It is just about Mc Cain the pilot. He had a penchant to play the hot shot as a pilot know I know. And have read a lot about about his accidents and his shoot down. I think better judgment would have avoided it all. Did you know that his father was General Westmoreland's boss. He was commander western Pacific better known as West Pac. That is why he was still flying after he flew into that cable in the Alps. I do not fault him for trying that it is a old tradition among pilots in the 6th fleet even though it was dangerous and illegal. They call it flying the wire. But he is the was only one I knew that ever hit it.

I see your point wrench but having lived with then for several years AND I MEAN LIVED WITH 24 hrs a day. slept below there landing area when we got to actually sleep down there. Most if the time we were catching naps on a steel deck between launches and recovery( a 90 minute cycle) I have seen that type thing go on for 3-4 days without a let up. You go to chow when you could on those days. That was the life on the old carriers. Now days they have enough crew to have shifts. WOW. How wonderful. for some reason though all that hard crap draws on you somehow as the years pass and I still love to see a war plane in the air.

On the new ones it is MIC.on the WW2 classes it was pretty darn hairy. We had a FJ loose power one time right off the fantail. He cartwheeled into 4 fully fueled jets sitting in back of the island on the number 3 elevator. We were in a coffee locker just in back of there and it had a open passageway about 6 ft long before you entered the door to the coffee locker. When that mess exploded. Flame shot in and filled the whole darn passage way for about a second. You would be surprised the thoughts that can go through your mind in a second when your in a little room with no other outlet. I think 4 were killed in that fire. Had another instance where we were recovering in a rain storm and were all hunker down. Well this a A4D snapped his landing gear( happened a few times) and skidded up the deck and hit the planes parked on the bow. Burnt 13 or 14 up. But no loss if life. At the time I was talking on a deck phone and I heard fly 3 say something I cant say here. I looked up and that A4 was not more than 50 ft from me. I yelled and we all ran and the wing tip caught the long cord on the phone and ripped it right off my neck. I did not even know it was gone. There was a recording of it at one time. When the explosion happened you could see what looked like steam shot off of the backs of all of us. They said it was from the heat because we were soaking wet. I never felt it. I do not know how that pilot go out if there to this day. But even now over50 years later I still can close my eyes and see in detail that A4 coming with the pilot holding the canopy braces and looking at us. I have seen it all on a carrier from people hit by a prop, burnt in back of a blast deflector, thrown overboard by jet exhaust and lost, copter crashes and believe it or not even took a blimp in tow onetime that lost power.

I have always admired the A-10. A-10s buzz around here all the time. Sometimes down to almost tree top level. They are really poetry in motion. I spent over 4 yrs on the deck of a old WW 2 era aircraft carrier. Was a very exciting place to be with modern jets and a shorter narrower deck than we have today. Have had everything under the sun try to take my head off. From chunk to whole aircraft skidding over the deck to hung ordnance including many many hung rockets from those rocket pods and one 500 lb bomb.

The hills are very intense site this year. The hills are really lit up

A lot of hooks where the eye bend is ends against the hook. Can outright cut a line. I can sat in doing this stuff for over 60 years have i never seen a clear connection between the knot and a broken line. Like wayne said it is usually some abrasion on the line. Either that are just plain trying to horse something. I am about out of here for good I am full up with this IPad. I do not have all the problems with selling and other things on our big Mac. I wonder if it has something to do with our WIFI signal here that is not that is anything but good.
-
I use all spoons to vertical jig. I look for some flip flopping in a spoon.
-
Polamar best knot ever. I think a lot of the the time break offs have nothing to do with the knot. Its the line, angler or the hook itself.
