In some cases that is true. But lake front prices have stagnated the past few years. I am looking toward bailing out of the area and moving into a home on small lake about 30 ac near Herman. I do not know what my place might fetch but I paid 100,000 cash for ot 23 yrs ago. I will double my money but how much more than that I do not know. This place is small,a dandy retirement home and has had tender loving care. Anyone who has seen it wouod tell you that. But I doubt I will make a big killing. The trashy stuff is going on everywhere in the outdoors.

DAVE It could be a lot better. Graft and politics are the big thing. I kind of trusted wood (and still do) to get the job done. He is a pretty straight shooter and has had some impact about this. I know though that there is a thing going on with politicians about introducing things very favorable to their constituents when they know very well it will not pass. I know of one in a major state that would tell those people she was fighting to get this bill passed over and over each year but it never got out of committee. I really suspect this person planned it that way. Am pretty certain that person did not support what the bill was asking for in spite of that person writing the bill. I rate the political process in this country at -100 percent. I had many years in the shadows of lasation.

I am of the school that says leaders do not mean nearly as much as most think. The fish knows the leader is there. They feet it thru vibrations made the lure or the line. This stuff about the fish seeing line has ever impressed me. I was more impressed by the old timers that worried more about what was being sent down the line by the reel or the guides. I knew some that hated the early Garcia reels because they were a bit noisy. Myself I do not worry about either that much. I believe the fish will focus on what's on the end of the line. I sometimes wonder about when a fish comes charging into get a lure and getting slapped the face with the line. I bet it happens. I do not know about everywhere but up here at LOZ I have learned over the past few years ,since I have had trouble casting that I can get close and catch fish under docks with just sticking the rod out and letting the lure drop straight down. Flipping is a lot like that also. I have gotten so close at times that it is almost hard for me to believe. Last timeI I was out I got 2 keepers and 4 shorts in about a hour. I was so close to the docks in 8-10 ft of water that I was hitting the post with the rod. Nearly everyone of these fish were caught almost under the boat and dock. Sometime the boat was within inches of the dock. They just are going stay there where they are is what it amounts to. I have done this in both shallow and deep water. No doubt I have spooked a few but I will still get my share.

There was legislation introduced by my state rep ( David Wood) that died in committee. it is not surprising to me that they had some negative reactions to this up here at LOZ, Bar owners, dock repair services, and summer people do not like that sort of thing. The Water patrol up here though has been reinforced and will be added to more. They are back to what they were like arresting BWI. They will also be stopping people about wake like ploing and giving them a good lecture.and warning. Years ago when first moved out there were a few instances were boats got shot up. Now if we get the new right to carry law this year the lake might just turn into the Wild West. Except for some around here that own sniper type rifles. They can do it from far off.

There were alwys bear in Missouri. Huzah wildlife area was one of those spots. That was back I the 60s.

Flat Bottom Boy-----I only have one real complaint about braid. And up here on LOZ it will stand out. that is it does not readily show abrasion and wear. When I am fishing mono I can run my fingers over the line and feel nicks etc and then just break it off and retie. Braid will not do that. It feels smooth as new when it is wet. I am not sure either that it doesnot catch in cable a lot Worse.

that is kind of funny Champ 188 I never heard of mountain lions not being down there. But as far as up here they are here. The people tht track them have said they think they use the Missouri River as a migratory route. My son built a pool in the far western St Louis county a couple yers back. And had one comfy through his building site. They had several MDC had several trucks on the roam through there for several days. Since the gents were coming through his building site he talked to them. It seems everyone of them they trapped was a young male and there was some concern this one was a female. They are concerned about them establishing a native population. They wonder all over the place. There was one tagged in Mo that was found in I believe it ws Michigan 2 months later. As far as the Bears go they have been found in seme rural area in Jefferson county just recently. I know theyhaveproblemswiththemin Ark.my neighbor an fishing bubby had a home in Bella Vista for about 20 yrs. They would come right up into yards down there. his parents were well know down there last name was Young. 176 Champ----Bobcats are all over the place in the Ozarks. Always have been. It isthelargevpupulatiom order that have brought the cougars back. IT was program theY STARTED I Arkansas that is responsible for the Bears.

light can be very very good this time of year. If your in the right place. By under the light do you mean above the water or submerged.
-
They are getting more common all the time in tht area along ith the big kitties.
-
Do not bet on that. They throw whatever their sponsor give them to throw. I have been using pro bass shops almost exclusively for many many years. I have never had a problem with the line quality. Only failures I had were mostly do to me. I think a awful lot of fishermen fish by the label and claims. Then they make poor knots or donot check the line for abrasions and it breaks. There are plenty of good books on the market. It is mostly the hook setter that is lacking.

I like to fish my drag light. Because I know that first run might be like. But I got a educated thumb. It is clamping down on the spool the second it feel the hit. '

That is good sensible post. I started wearing one all the time this past year. I was sitting out casting over a hump pretty far out in the lake and it dawned on me I would never get my 76 yr old butt to the bank from where I was if I had too.
-
Well it will happen Mitch. It is hell to sit around and discuss fishing and not be able to go at it. I do not think I will he getting putters until fall.and I am only60 ft away from my dock and boat. I cannot hold the rod anylongervfor more than a few minutes. I am experimenting though with various sling contraptions.

Tell you somerhing else about braid. If your one of these people that want your lure on target. You can often avoid the pendulam wing you get with mono etc by feeding line till the lure hits bottom. The braid will run accross the surface and go down in back of where our lure hit the water. I use it for crappie fishing for exactly that purpose.

My Bet is in the trees. That brings up a true story you Meramec people might like. Way back in pre historic times I used float a lot from the Birds Nest to Onandaga. I would do it in a real long wooden john boat ( still think they are the best craft for the river) that was built buy a old fella that lived in a log cabin right close to onandaga cave. Well Harvey was a real down to earth ozark country boy of few words. But believe me the way he said them was was a book in your mind. I remember one time he was bringing some people down the river and this guy kept throwing the lure into the bank and bushes. Harvey got tired of it and very calmily explained to the guy that the sun was up and the dew had tried off the bushes so the fish went back into the water. I was not there but I heared the guy never said a word the rest of the day. I recall one time he made me feel real stupid. I was down at the river and was getting high. A couple kids portaged the low water bridge and were headed down the river in a small canoe. I was a bit concerned because the river was rising fast. Harvey was down there so I said to Harvey where did those kids come from. All he said without moving or changing his expression was "up the river". Now me being a young buck you know I Just had to say something else. So i said " Harvey wonder where they are going " all he said. "down the river". I never ask him a silly question again.

Welll you need to pay cliser attentiion to this forum. Steeling on ramps is wholesale down on Table Rock an up on LOZ as well. On LOZ they got the option of docks to stel from. They are also geared to do it as well. Have a neighbor had 80 gals of gas stolen from his cigarette boat in minutes.

That is a real big statement Wrench, and it applies to all fishing I think. Lot of these fisher persons on here do not really understand what is meant by paying your dues. There just is no alternate to it.
-
I was also. Carried a ave in the 190's. But there was never a time that bowling could ever hold a candle to fishing. I do not look at fishing as a competition. It is something in my sole that been there my entire life. Catching is not importnt either anymore. It s just being out thereoing it.

I spent many wonderful hours below Clarksville Dam. I herd it is crowded up therenow days.

Lots of drunks amd druggies as well.

I do not understand the need for a leader in some of the lower test braids. I used 10lb braid on my crappie outfits and have tried it to fish flukes and sinkos. I used the same outfits on Taneycomo for 4 days last year. Never have found a use for a leader.

I will say this. I am happy to see the party goes floating in those tubs. Would seem a awful lt safer than a canoe. I am amazed every year there are not people killed from being sucked down into root wads etc. I floated a lot way back when. I have the greatest respect fhe power of even slow moving water and root wads.

Well Walcrabass. .I will try this again. Around here most top fisherman I know are not thrilled by weed guards. They will shorten the, and bend the fiber around giving it more spread. I know one man who will regularly cit them off. My own I make without weed guards.Maybe we got messed up huh. However my own are all cast on X2 hook that sets the hook back farther. As far getting the jig thru the brush. Everything from the line to the jig weight is balanced for a softer presentation.
-
Tell you Walcrabass everyone I know trims their jig head except me I do not have any on my jigs. They also work them to make them softer give them a wider spread. Maybe were all misinformed huh.?
-
That is very true. You would have to drag some people I know on a stout chain to get him out in anything over 10 ft of water. I think it has a lot to do with what your comfortable with.
