I think from experience that most of that shaking comes from the design of the worm. I like how supple the one looks in the video is I used to fish tht style of worm years ago. They were called ring worms. I bet l can rig that thing texas style or put a split shot about 2" in front of that worm and make it do all kinds of girrations. I would love to see the return of the original ringworm. I have fished them unweighted and made the dance and fall over brush. Something struggling up above that brushpile is very exciting to the bass.

WOW Dave SQUEAKS. i just knew you would have to do some squeking about the squeking ball bearings. It would be interesting to hear what you might say if the ball bearing was going Pffffffffftttt. -
I am careful about where I put it down around docks. I carry it and a regular rigged wirm with me. The drop shot is a hairy thing to drop round brush. I get picky about my weight on texas rig. I go all the down to nothing even on 10"+ worms. With the drop shot the bite seems to come very fast most times. With the texas rig you might fall sleep waiting for me to get it retrieved.

I am headed down there tomorrow. Will be there till about noon as the wife runs loose in the stores. more thwn likely falling asleep in the chairs. I really buy aslittle there as possible. i do not support some of old Jonney and his business practices. My kids are determined to give me Pro Bass gift cards at Christmas however in spite of having told them all 3 times i do not really like to shop there anymore. Only thing that place has right now that I want is a couple of bags of jig trailers, some hooks, and just maybe a buck tail depending on them having any things like ginger, and shades of green that are quality. As a rule they usually do have quality bucktail. AS A RULE. You got to inspect them closely. -
Connef they took that crappie storyvof the sports page and ran it on the frontvpage of the paper this week I have not read it yet. But it is same thing as before I think.

Ham i agree wuth you. I have been educated to the dangers of them. I am not use what they put into my shoulder at Missou. It had gotten to the point that I couldcnot use it. They did it so that i could take the rehab. I know it will be wearing off in a couple more weeks so it my not hve been steroids. What else is there they use. -
Well thats all good. They can do things. I know a spot that is really non discript. I have a neighbor and his buddy fish from dock there. As far as catching crappie in the winter the place is something like the mail. Rain shine sleet or snow they are going to catch crappie there. It has been going on for several years. It does not match any of the things it is suppose to for a winter hole. Its not protected, faces north and is not on channel bank. They fish with nothing but little tube bait with crappie candy on it. That all I can really say. They would gun me down by sunset over this one.

Armens has messed up the white bass. Crappie and black can fool everyone with there spawning habits. Often it is under docks, deeper and later. People come down in April and fish the brush. They often catch small mails and females. That does not mean the big ones are not there. Those big females do strange things at times. Like spawning when they are not suppose to even be biting. Are where they are not suppose to be.

there are still a lot of 12" crappie in LOZ they can be cuaght in good numbers at the right time amd place.

Water clarity does not mean much. Turbid water carries a lot od nutreients they can feed on. As a matter if fct they will make the water clearer with all the filter feeding. They filter out what they want and use the rest to build their shell. Including toxins. When they were bad here you could see a small crappie jig down to 7-8 or deeper on the gravois arm. It has always bothered me that we had a sudden drop in the blue cat fishing on this arm. I have always wondred if toxins in those shells were part of the problem. Blues feed heavily on zebras and can digest the shells.

There are only a few types of crappie fisherman who bring this stuff up with the the fisheries bioligest. People who are not good crappie fishermen those who want all the good fishing handed to them and some summer people. Unfortunatly a lot of the latter have no respect for the lake are the people who live here in any way shape or fashion. I have a lage community dock near me that has a well built crappie bed under it. I can remember fishing for bass about 75 ft from that dock and watching some guy raise a rope stringer of small crappie about 6 ft long. There must have been over 100 crappie on that stringer. Since they were all dead he just dumped them all back in the water. There were dead crappie everywhere. They were summer people. I read the story Chief. The way I read it he is not going to do anything. More than likely the newspaper might have called them and ask for something.

speeking of getting lost. i had a hydro graphic map of Eagle Lake Ontario when i and a friend spent a week up there. Well let me tell you on that bg old map the many islands iin there sure look spread out abd abreee to run thru. Hmmmmmm first time we did it we took off and we were going to a spot we thought would be good a few miles away. Well we got about half way down there and I turned around in The boat and all I could see was trees and what looked like a solid bank line off in the distance. Scared me a bit. It Was like we were sitting there in a round lake. Would have been very easy to to wind up god knows where if you did not have enough confidence in the sun and your own sence of direction.

I would find a fishing hotspots map useless. This day in age it is a wonder you do not run into a croud at each one of those spots. A map means only one thing to me ,it helps me find structure( if I ever was go to a strange lake) that I think might be a good spot. But they should not be depended on to answer the three basic questions where when amd how. You need all three pieces to put the puzzel together.

Thats true. I have caught very large Drum over the years on everything from crank baits to spoons and jigs. The later two in particular. Matter of fact I enjoy it in the spring when they will put-up a fight comparable to any bass.

I do not keep but a few throughout the year I would be doing the sne as wrench. I have seen summer people tke anything and everything they can get.

Pouring and casting lead fishing lures
Old plug replied to Old plug's topic in General Angling Discussion
I got to strongly second that Dave. You may not noticed in the proir photo I posted, I believe though those castings are a good example Of what your talking about. The hook is a O' Shaunsey 0/4 tinned hook molded on a 1/2 oz jig. I had to take a Dremel tool to the mold to make it fit. I had specific reasons. I like hair jigs, I do not use weed guards, so I ruled out wide gap right away. I wanted something that still gave a pretty good exposure to the narrower gap. So I selected a long shank hooks. I do not like to pay the over inflated prices they want for most jig hooks. These cost me $11 for 100, and will last me years. I like plate hooks to use when I can get them. I do like rusty hooks. I do not carry many jigs only a few including spares in natural color. Matter of fact they all ar about the same because .i have confidence in it Below is a finished jig biult to my specification. That alone makes building jigs more stisfying -

My daughter in law is the president of her families plumbing bussiness. They have been in business since something like 1903. Their mian area of repair is in a large area of St Louis county with old rehab homes in it. I have never seen the pile of lead pipe back in the warehouse but there is suppose to be a big pile of it collected up over the years. It definitely needs to be cleaned up before using. I have a tiny pot. Do notvpour that much. I bought my first mold about 1964 or 5. It was for pouring egg sinkers. iNrecently dug it out a modified it a bit and now pour 3/4 and 1 oz drop shot weights with swivels in them. They are not to nice but they will serve the purpose. -

I use lead pipe some of which is over 100 yrs old. I get it free from my daughter in law. I have to clean it. So i melt it and flux it with candle wax. That brings up all the impurities in the firm of slag. I remove the slag and pour it ibto ingots. The lead pours very smoothly. You Got to be caeful though with the candle flux if the lead is to hot the candle wax will come up right away and form a puddle on the top of the pot. Then vapor rises up and the whole thing ignites in a column of fire for a couple seconds. If you put it in at lower temperature it will not do that. It stays in the lead.
