  1. MOPANFISHER ----- I looked the statute up myself. Wildlife Code CSR 10-4.145 Preparing and serving. That tells it in detail. I do not care where they show up and give tickets but if they are going to enforce law do it. If the statute is wrong or unfair then change it or enforce it. To not enforce it is to me a is nothing more than a compromising what the whole code stands for.
  2. The churches charge and some make s big noise about it. It is not about doing it. It is about the strict and even handed administration of the law. This is the only thing I have a concern about. I do not have contact with them after my wife experience. I think they render a valuable service. I am not about to name the churches or the organization that received wild fish from members are big crappie tournament. It looks wrong as i read the law. Nobody here has shown me other wise at this point.
  3. Good attitude chief. You should run for political office.
  4. Yeah Wrench Piercy has a reputation dating back to when he was a cop in Laurie of arrogance. After. He became a trooper would put his car on the side and hang his butt out in the Laurie Chiefs office. As far as I a concerned what he done was clearly man slaughter. His attitude that was recorded at the scene was terrible.
  5. CHIEF I have not seen a agent making license or creel checks here on the lake in at least 8 to 10 yrs. Nobody I know has either. Another thing I do not understand is how they turn their backs when game fish are advertised and sold to raise funds for churches. l have known that fish caught in crappie tournaments were not been returned to the water. They were. Cleaned. Fried and sold to raise money for a organization. Yet I went to a meeting about gardening and some agent stood up there and made a strong point about not shooting armadillos because they were protected. I just do not ask them anything anymore. I believe in conservation but I will protect my property hook or crook.I certainly do not believe in the way they administer the law around here. My wife called Camdenton office one time about a deer problem. And the agent hollered at her over the phone "Put up a darn fence"
  6. Al ------ I suppose matching up with the prey is a good Idea. It sure cannot hurt. Then there comes up some wild stuff that matches nothing. During my days on the Meramec from Bird Nest to Onadaga in The mid 60's I tied some 1/8 oz jigs. In pink and purple marabou. I had no idea or reason to do it. I think I just got bored and thought they were pretty. But those jigs turned out to be real good small mouth jigs.
  7. Well you certainly got the body right and the legs. kind of wonder if you could tread a thingy through the nose to get the feelers. There might be something in some sort in sewing shop somewhere.Jo Ann's is a good start. All kinds of stuff in there might be used in jigs and flys.
  8. Have a happy thanksgiving Mitch. I am up here in Herman till Friday morning. I been trying to tell you I tried your baits for shot while. Only thing bothered me was the fluke. Seems to go down pretty fast. Maybe I am just not use to that. I used hooks down to 0/3 on it. It was also kind of hard to get it to do fluke things. Seemed a bit heavy to me. You think there migh be something with the hardener or garlic tht might have condensed the plastic in them

Happy Thanksgiving Harry, I'll put less weight additive in the flukes next time thanks for the feedback buddy!

  9. I think I understand wrench's point as it applies to Morgan and Camden county. it infects awful lot of our law inforcement around here. You got to walk a mile in his shoes Chief. I know the path he has walked.
  10. I watched it. Was a but puzzled about the mechanics of the retrieve, The draw and let sink is nothing new but the way he was reeling it instead of drawing it I have not seen before. I noted there was high wind and just wonder if he was reeling instead of drawing because of the belly in the line the drawing would create in the wind they were fishing in. That would make it hard to feel a strike. In the short moment I could see the jig it looked like it could have been 3/8 Oz. I do know this, it would have sunk slower because of the bushy white buck tail. I am almost sure the wind had something to do with that retrieve. Just another puzzel somebody just ask him maybe.
  11. I know it is a lot of fun to tie a lot of concoctions and experiment. But i am somewhat set in my ways and not very creative to boot so will not be able to really contribute to much to this thread. This picture is more or less what all my jigs look like. I have different sizes and a few different colors but that's it. This one is a 1/2 oz size in dark olive with a watermellon pepper trailer. The trailer is a full sized brush hog. I remove those little loops and in this case about 1/2 inch of the nose.I really put more emphasis on my trailers than my jigs. i do like to make them sort of match up most of the time. I am a big fan of the brush hog series.
  12. I think I understand wrench's point as it applies to Morgan and Camden county. it infects awful lot of any.aw I forcement around here.
  13. I took your baits out this afternoon for awhile. I like the sinko, and the grub, but have a little problem with the fluke. It seems to sink awful fast and is hard to get much fluke action out of. Is how it seemed to me. I am wondering if hardener or scent added too much weight.

I caught a good sized drum on the craw. The size was about 3lbs but it really fouled up my should. I was hopping by  the time I got it in that it would get off. That ended my outing. I think i am done for the year now. I am going to try to get a second option after the holidays. If it keeps going this way I am going to have to make further drastic changes in my fishing I can see that now.

  14. I got both shades of olive. But they did not call it light and dark. I feel they should have. But I like the dark olive myself real well it is that brownish green that is so effective on LOZ. . Another color I have used as a accent on the top of the jig is that stuff they call burnt orange. i just love the color of it is all. Do not see any differance it its attraction though You guys usually fish your gig in the river. I fish mine here . My buck tail Jig is is usually about 4” long or better. With the attachment of a big creature bait the whole works can be over 7 inches.
  15. Mitch I will be going out in about 10 or 15,minutes to give the sinkos and crawls of your a try. Craw is a bit smaller than anything I use. But I caught some good sizes bass and big drum using a crappie jig. I think size is a bit overrated. Not sure about the flukes yet. Not sure where the hooks for them or at down in my fibber Magee closet down on the dock. I want to try one of those unweighted . 0/6 hooks on them

  16. I disagree about the part that you need a expensive reel with a very good drag system. Us old farts started out with reel that had no drag and no braking system. I bet a lot of us still compromise reel settings to fish that way. I believe if you learn to do it it is by best by feel.
  17. Seth i just started tying buck tail jigs again this year. It looks to me like colors are pretty well controlled between the materials. So I suspect dark olive would be a fine match for green pumkin in most baits like brush hog. I really like that color combined with a full sized green pumkin brush hog trailer down here on LOZ. It seems like something natural and real.
  18. Well shucks Gavin---- I have had experience with beavers world wide. Had to pay a few. But never got rough and destructive about it or molested them.
  19. since were on the subject of tying jigs. I found a couple thing last year I like. And will share them with you for whatever they are worth. While. In Jo Ann's sewing shop with my wife I started looking for nylon thread. What I found however was a special poly thread that is designed specifically for exterior use. It is super strong. It is The same diameter as regular thread. It is very strong. Also one spool equals several of the smaller one you buy in fly shops ones. I just wrap it from the larger spoon onto the smaller ones as needed. Also while at Hobby Lobby I discovered a glue called FUSION. It is a clear urethane adhesive. That can be use full strength or thinned with water. Thinned or full strength it dries water proof not water resistant. It drys fairly fast. I use it both ways. I like to saturate the partly finished windings with the thinned adhesive. It will soak in and then as you finish winding it come up and coates them as you wind. Then after that's dry I paint on a couple coats of full strength as a topping. nEver had a winging fail yet with this stuff.
  20. Since were on the subject of round reels. I have a picture here of one of the fastest and smoothest I have owned. I do not know what model it is other than a Garcia. It is not much larger or heavier than modern reels. It's about 15 -18 yrs old. Never seen another one like it. I was in pro bass shop in Springfield one day and seen it was on the rack for about $30 bucks. I looked it over and could see it sure did looked like something worth more than $30 with the fancy gold leaf and all. When I bought it there were no others. I had to buy it just as it was in the display rack. I ask them are you going to get more. They told me that was it. That little devil has served me flawlessly for all these years. I showed it to my repair friend I mentioned in a upper post. He looked it up and sent pictures and called Garcia and otherwise pretty much research it. Still to this day we do not know what model it is. It is more than likely some spcial run of a few of these reels for some special purposes or occasion. Only thing he says about it now is that he wants me too will it to him when I die. He collects both baits and reels. Has something like 3-4 thousand in the reel collection. He is not getting it after I am gone it will go up on my daughters wall on a rod with my old fishing hat.
  21. i sure do. I have a friend that owns a repair shop I often go in there to just yak with him. Rarely do you see a old round rel back on his repair table ,but you sure see a lot of the new ones. I have seen the insides of many of the new ones and they certainly look to me like a complicated mass of tiny mostly plastic parts. I have two new style though. They cast like a dream and weigh nothing. They are good for people who cannot or do not want to take time to master them. I bet they will never last like the old round ones. The round ones were simple and sturdy. And mostly metal gears etc.
  22. The prosecutor had to deliberately make that call. Maybe he was the gigger. He preceverted he meaning of taken as it is meant to be. Sounds more like a slick defense attorney to me.
  23. I am just trying to figure out when they are biting do .i can get his spot. I know he never misses supper. So that eliminates the evening hours.
  24. now you have me interested in taking a drive up to spring. Branch
  25. yeah wrench try one of those sinkos Mitch made. Maybe skitter it a bit before you let it go en twitch it going down.
