  1. Driving on private property IS FINE. I have a neighbor whos 8 yr old drive a golf cart around our suvdivision that are private roads. The problem there is missouri law says any private subdivision road dedicated to public use ( first respondes, mail, ups etc) are not private roads for the purpose of the law. I only brought this up so anyone can cover their butt. I keep waiting for a very terrible accident to occure on O-275. out of Laurie. I never have a problem with them. But then I have a lot of practice dodging deer on a almost daily basis. So I am more alert about things coming out of nowhere at me. But many people are not.
  2. 5 bites you have absolutly no preception of what flipping is behind a dock. I got to wonde have you ever done it. Many docks up hear have 6 or more cables on them. You do not know wrench so I would not be trying to tell him about Flipping docks.
  3. Mennards sells EXCIDE they are real good deep cycle batteries. If you wait till they have one of those many 11% off everything sales you can get them for in the low 70s each. Ithink they have AGM also
  4. 5 bites ------Well my goodness I suppose I am suppose to hang my head in shame. That is just plain wishful thinking. Why in the world would anyone object to the Elkins Jig name. The. guys that made them called it a jig didnt they. They didn 't cal it something else. I have used Elkins jigs in the 5/16 size until I started building hair jigs again. That is only because I could always find them in 5/16 oz sizes. You mean to tell me you think the Elkins jig was not a jig. Oh by the way it is taking between 16 and 18 lbs to even draw the lowest pay out her on LOZ in a tourney that on goes 4 hrs from 6 to 11 pm.
  5. Myself I do not really care one way or another. but I do not like the shoving of something in people face to take advantage of their looking for a silver bullet. You should fish with whatever you want to and know how to fish it well. In my close to 70 yrs of fishing I have learned a few lures well used beats any majic bullet. The majic bullets I have tried are all up in the garage coated with dust.
  6. I really like to see kids having fun. And I can understand how much fun that might be. But the parents do not seem to be anywhere around most of the time. For all the little good it would do anyway. I would be worried sick if they were mine running around on what city people consider a county lane. Here is a little info for some of you who might be doing this. If your child does not qualify for a drivers license he cannot be driving on any road. You better have real good insurance. Since if the child has a accident and the insurance company finds out they are not going to pay a dime if he is not a qualified driver. And it gets better if that child has a accident was to get hit by a car etc. Whoes fault is it. It is yours of course. It is yours no matter who hit who are what hit him. And It gets better still. If the above accident requires the the notification of the sheriff. He might be taking you to jail and you might be there for awhile. It is called CHILD ENDANGERMENT I also see a lot of parents riding with the kids on these things supervising. Well that is fine but the child was still the driver and you let him drive so nothing changes. I always wonder jow these parents can do this when they realize the danger and finacial liability that can befall them.

  8. Mitch ------ off the subject. But how did the thing with your dog turn out. I hope he lost.
  9. I do not know Mitch why it would not be possible. My dad knew and went to school for some time with the Alton Giant. I guess anything is possible. It was only one fish. He was only one man.
  10. I do not know who makes PBS but it is not PBS. I use Excel and have never had a provlem with if. I change my line during the season the amount depends on how much I fish. I know they sell flor down there under a couple of PBS names mightvbe the same line.
  11. Many years ago some friends of mine down af clearwater used to fish for carp and turn them into delicious fish paddies that were frozen and distributed to the poor. I can remember many times when we loaed a boat with large carp. All we ever used was feed corn. We drilled a small hole in it for the hook and soaked them in cool aid. I cannot even begin to estimate how many carp we would catch. I partly taught my 6 yr old son how to fight fish by giving him a light spinning rod with a 6 lb test on it to catch these things on. those carp taught him some valuable lessons about landing fish that are with him to this day.
  12. My whole objection with the ned rig was the way it was presented as something new and meraclulious. When the developers knew very well it was not. I believe the whole deal on here was about selling that idea. Would be very easy to sell to a lot of gullable fishermen searching for the majic bullet. I do not understand or even believe it when I see some more experienced anglers on here tooting it . Make me wonder about their motives. I do not like any attempt to try to push some product down my throat. Nothing in this world will make me decide against buying anything faster than some slick salesman that thinks I am a stooge. And thats just exactly how I feel about the Neg Rig.
  13. I did not say that Mitch did. He is more reserved than I am I do believe. I would have called it a sales gimmick with all the claims and what have you.
  14. It is allegedly a Zoom Mag 11 plastic worm bag that he was catching fish on. I suspect there was something else at play myself like a big jig with a large fat trick worm attached to it. I think hecis trying to throw us off the trail.
  15. AHhhhhhhhhhhhhh Man
  16. well mark you might catch a few litte fush on that rig but you will not be doing anything like the post on this forum under no bass this week.
  17. Fin and feathers------ I agree it could be trying again. After this year of having a d--- pair of mallards trying three time to nest in in a open storage compartment of my boat. It is a real trill to just about get up on plane and the hen comes flying out of that compartment between my feet. I have blocked it and they still returned. She has gotten in there and actually moved my spare prop around. All 3 times there were eggs and they all got cracked rolling against the prop when the boat raised up on plane. Hmmmmmm Nature seems to find a way. I am 76 and I been looking real hard for voodoo. No luck so far.
  18. Do not think that is what it is. They may just now be getting to it. Bass and crappie both were still spawing in places on LOZ just a week ago. It is not unusual at all around here. They spawn deep. I have at least one late spawner in back of my dock every year on a bed 6ft ot more deep.
  19. I am a jack in the box. I do all sorts of strange things with baits.
  20. Now your talking. I do it a lot. It is very versital. My drop shotting is somewhat different I imagine than yours. There was a recent post on here about it in LOZ. I cover the full range with it from shallow to 30 ft or more at times. Have been doing it for 4-5 yrs. I have never ever seen anyone else do it. Most people look at me like I am nuts. That is fine. I did not need to see the artical wriitten by Neporadny on here. He was saying that Deon is doing it. So I guess there is someone else. I and the Hibdons have mutual friends. They knew I did it but they never mentioned him doing it. I just do not like the attention it might bring. Mjk86 As far as the split goes thats a good idea. I have done that with the conventional drop shot stuff because it pulls off on a snag. But what he is doing is far superior to that. He is letting the tumble over the bottom give it action. You need to rig with swivels for that. One on the weight and one above the the hook where it attaches from the rig to the line.
  21. . I found a glue though called called Liquid Fusion they sell at Hobby Lobby that is about the best stuff I have ever used. It is a Urethane based glue that can be thinned yet dries water proof. When thinned it slows down the set up time. I soak the hair with it just before I make final wrap. Then wrap the thread over the glue. Then paint the binding with it full strength after it dries. Very strong I just started making them again this year after many years away. I liked to played around with different things but returned to just making the the standard buck tail jig with a baby brush hog as a trailor. Simple, easy amd very effective.
  22. Let him. continue what he is doing. There is really nothing that will avoid hang ups except fishing where there are no hangups. There are many variables and adjustments to a set up to fishing plastic worms around hangup or anywhere else for that mattter. Only way you will know what to do is to be right with the experience to recoginize it. I imagine you will get plenty of suggestions though on here. Use what ever you think meets your needs.
  23. I am looking for anyone in the LOZ area that wants a pair of Scotty Down Riggers. Only used about 1/2 dozen times. I do not want to ship them. Anyone interested can come by and inspect them. I have not decided on a price yet. I think it will be around $250 for both.
  24. 1099GL-----I go along with Agnew on this. Your young fella. By the time you read all the stuff on this thread your will thoroughly confused I think To me the important thing with river fishing is to treat the river is a live thing. It is moving and swirling around all sorts of things as it goes along its way. That effects how you fish. I would say if there was one surefire smallmouth bait it would be the jig. The thing is you got to learn how to use in conjunction with the rivers movements and the effects those movements have on the jig. Other things like the weight of the jig ,the materials its made out of and line your using also play into it. This is something you best learn on your own. It will take many hour to learn well. But it will do the job for you the rest of your life. Understanding these basic things will apply to many other lures and even fishing in lakes.
  25. This clear water is a awful pain in the butt. Day before yesterday the mid Gravois took on a little color and you could only see about 4 -5 foot. I had a pretty nice afternoon. Got 3 keepers and had a ball with the 13-14 inch fish. Came down to the dock the next morning and it was clear as a bell again. If I can get my rotten shoulder to function tomorrow. I am going to go invade someone else area. What was the rin like today. I was in Herman Mo picking up some Pecan for BBQ most of today.
