  1. I can live w/o the actual feather, I think, but it's a nice pattern. Anything easy for me to tie is a good thing.
  2. I need to add a piece of wood for my tools. I don't have a ton of materials, but I got a plastic worm binder at the BP outlet store and put all my materials in there. I can make my vice fit in there as well and it zips up w/ handles. Easy to take it on the road.
  3. I couldn't justify spending money on a tying bench, so I improvised with some stuff I found laying around the office. It's working pretty well so far, but I need to add something across the back to hold my tools. It's a computer monitor stand and an office-supply tray from a drawer.
  4. I've attached a couple "soft hackles" (I think, anyway). Details: thread bodies fine wire rib size 16 strung saddle hackle Looks to me like the hackle is too long. All the feathers were the same, so should I trim them down or use something else. I've noticed most wets have that swept back look which mine don't have, but the hackle certainly isn't as stiff as a dry-fly hackle. Again, any advice is greatly appreciated.
  5. Don't remember how I found this, but I liked it and it looked easy to tie. Haven't fished it yet, but it looks good. I've attached my version and below is the link to the tying instructions. The site is Australian and the fly, I guess, is a common British fly. It's supposed to represent a specific beetle, though is also used as a midge dry. I think I tied mine is a 16. My hackle isn't as good as the example. Did I just choose poorly? Seems too long and not as dense. Any suggestions would be appreciated. http://www.goulburnvlyflyfishing.com.au/In...cochybondhu.htm
  6. I have a friend that lives about a half mile from it in Eureka. He's pretty new to fishing and just has a Zebco 33 type. What swims in that portion of the river and advice on where to go near Eureka would be greatly appreciated.
  7. The store pick up would be great for customers. We could pick up our gear on our way to the lake or have everything ready if we're staying with you. "Here's your fly assortment, Mr. Guest. You're ready to hit the water." No if I could only win the Powerball.....
  8. I noticed you had line in two categories, but they weren't the same lines. Bait & Tackle and Lines, Lures & Nets. I like it, too. It's going to be a great alternative for a lot of people. Will you have an option to buy online and pick it up in the store?
  9. I googled the Rabbi's web site and his entry is much longer than what he posted. Here is the link: http://www.theflyfishingrabbi.blogspot.com/
  10. I bet that's done a lot for the economy of northern Arkansas. I've heard unemployment in squirrels was much higher that other rodent populations.....
  11. Sorry, Steve, I missed your post. That's a good looking fly and I'm going to try as soon as I get some squirrel. I think I'll tell my wife it's synthetic, though. She'd have a pet squirrel if she could. Does the bead provide enough weight or do you add shot when you fish it?
  12. I dream about it, but it hasn't happened yet!
  13. Terry, you've seen my ties, too. you guys should no better than this!!
  14. Oh, I didn't tie it. (Come on, Dan, you seen pictures of my flies!) I found it on flyanglersonline.com. (Avoiding work again. :-)) I have found that a lot of good flies w/ instructions on flyanglersonline.com. A lot of sites give you a list of materials but no instructions.
  15. How does compare to the pine squirrel streams you use at night. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/f...020507fotw.html
  16. Probably good you got the agent as well. The guy gets a ticket and you're not at risk. I vote for ticket over guilty conscience any day.
  17. I've heard Pflueger makes some of the Bass Pro reels, so you might save a few bucks there. I have a 7'6" micro lite and I love it. My best fishing buddy has one too, so it get's a little crowded in the canoe, but you can really chuck a jig with and I use it almost like a flipping stick in tight quarters.
  18. I think a lot of the districts around Springfield are growing. We live in Republic and the Kindergarten class my daughter is in is about 100 kids bigger than last years. They're wanting to building a new high school, too. I bet there would be a lot of opportunities in the area.
  19. I'd be proud, too. Those look like awesome fish to me. W/o revealing guide secrets, etc., how did you guys catch them? Do I remember that the state record came from the Beaver Tailwater or am I confused (it happens all the time.).
  20. John, does a some of have to do with the lack of hatches on our tailwaters? Since the level fluctuates, we don't get consistant hatches?
  21. I always read. I don't fish Stockton very ofter, but I really enjoy the thoroughness of your reports. So thanks for writing them.
  22. Brittsnbirds: Do you have a pic you can post, that sound interesting.
  23. That "Dirty Jobs" is a cool show. Makes me glad my job is clean.
  24. IMHO, which is not worth much, there is as much art to cooking on gas as there is charcoal. Plus, if you think about what's in briquettes, it's kind of scarey. Here is what Wikipedia says is in charcaol briquettes. "briquettes are made from a combination of charcoal (heat source), brown coal (heat source), mineral carbon (heat source), borax (press release agent), sodium nitrate (ignition aid), limestone (uniform visual ashing), starch (binder), raw sawdust (ignition aid) and possibly additives like paraffin or lighter fluid to aid in lighting them." The above uses of wood chips work well for me, as does indirect heat to keep you from blackening things by accident. Plus, with gas, you can literally grill is rain, snow, wind, sleet, freezing rain, etc. And when Canada finally invades, you can rig the propane canister as a homemade bomb.
  25. I re-cropped the pic. I think I probably put the bead on the wrong way.
