Trout in Table Rock? That seems weird.

Winding Line

So what niche does braid fill? The spider wire I used was low-vis green, but it seemed really high vis in the clear water. -
What would be cool for the rest of us is if KFF could post pictures of all the flies when they are done (a lot of work for KFF, though). I'm really curious about all these different flies!

Winding Line

I tried SpiderWire braid once and have trouble w/ it. I could keep it from spinning on the spool and it seems like knots were difficult. What's the secret? Also, I've been think of making the switch to flourocarbon. It seems pretty mixed on the board between mono and flouro. What are the disadvantages of flouro? -
We just moved to Republic and are really happy with. There are a lot of new homes going up and we've been very impressed with the schools. They seem to be very student oriented and very progressive, not at all what I expected. In fact, we looked at Nixa, Ozark, & Willard and the we liked Republic schools best. It's got pretty good access to the airport from I-44 or West Bypass. The city's web site is http://www.republicmo.com. There is also still quite a bit of farmland around, so I imagine it would be easy to board your hoarse or find a place w/ land. Anyway, good luck and welcome to SW Mo.

Hair Rigs --the business end on euro gear
WebFreeman replied to MoCarp's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
So I take it you rig up a few of these before you get to the water? I saw one site that involved shrinking tubing on the shank, but you don't mention this. Do you whip the line up the shank and secure it? I'm most interesting in using this for trout w/ the kids and Powerbait eggs. Would you tie a swivel then use a slip sinker? If you want more than 1 egg, do you make the loop bigger? -
RedHead® Finley River Stocking-Foot Chest Waders
WebFreeman replied to WebFreeman's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
I was afraid of that, the leaking part. Thanks for the info. -
Most of the jobs would be lucky to see $9 and hour. As far as economic development, tourism may build a healthy tax base for property tax and sales tax revenue, but as far as "career" opportunities, there aren't many. Most people will need 2 of 2000 jobs in order to afford living there. I doubt any of those people filling those 2000 positions would be able to afford your house. It's true that many businesses will benefit from the Landing just as a many have benefitted from SDC and the theaters on the strip. But in the long run, those low-wage, entry level retail positions won't help anyone but high school and college students.

I was looking at RedHead® Finley River Stocking-Foot Chest Waders from BP. Anyone have any experience? Here is the description: are made of 420 denier nylon with PU backing for 100% waterproof protection. All seams have been taped and tested at the factory to prevent leaks. 3.5mm neoprene bootie. I'm like something light-weight I can wear comforably in the heat and layer under in the cold. Thanks

Nevermind. I think I'll save my nickels and hope I don't break one off.
-
Phil, do you have a picture of it that's in focus? Seems like it would easy enough to tie, even for someone like me. Did you say on another post that they weren't lead-heads and weren't marabou?

I think it's 739. There is a good map from the Dept. of Convservation and I believe that's what it said.

I think this is why I like river fishing more than anything. It seems all places can hold fish at all times. I agree w/ Flysmallie about riffles that empty into a bend. I recall a favorite spot on the Finley where we've caught several big smallies. There is a fallen tree that lays right on the drop-off. We've caught good fish from the pool, tail of the riffle and the tree. Re: riffles. In my experience if seems the more subtle the obstruction, the better. A rock the size of a TV never seems to hold fish for me. If you're thinking of writing for the newbie, Phil, I'd differentiate between riffle and rapid. I've caught fish in the middle of a riffle, but never a rapid. Seams between fast and slow water also hold a lot of fish for me. It seems like they'll move into the fast water to the slow in order to hit something. I'm getting the itch, too. This forum is torturous sometimes!

MoCarp: I'd be interested for myself as well as the kids. Do share....

This was posted by Rolan Duffeild back in March. This article was published in the Kansas City Star March 18,06 Can anyone tell us what is planned? Does this refer to minimun flow in Taney? Fish habitats in Ozarks to be restored. SPRINGFIELD --- The Ozarks Table Rock lake and adjacent waters willbe a test case for a national plan to save fish stocks from deteriorating habitat and water conditions. The project will be funded in part by Springfield based Bass Pro Shops, the company and conservation officials announced Friday. The nonprofit National Fish and Wildlife Foundation said Bass Pro Shops will contribute $5 million, which will be matched by money raised by the foundation, over 5 years for a national campaign to preserve and restore fish habits. Half of the $10 million will go projects at the 52,300 acre Table Rock Lake, neighboring Lake Taneycomo and the White river watershed on the Missouri-Arkansas border. Bass Pro is the first corporate sponsor of the foundations More Fish campaign.

Maybe he's thinking of the habitat program BP is starting. Weren't they going to spend that much on structure?
-
I've wanted to take my 4 year old up there. Are the docks overfished or should we find a nice bank spot? There was an article in the recent MO Game & Fish that feature lake Springfield and Fellows as untapped bass spots.

I agree w/ Phil. And I get the Trail Illustrated map. It will show you areas of interest and trails to things like Hemmed In Hollow, which is an easy hike from the river. I've done it in sandals (I think it's about a mile). I hiked from Pruitt to Steal Creek and then floated back to Pruitt. It was a great trip. I got my map at the bike shop in Harrison, but I'm sure you can get it a lot of places.

Indiana State Record Brown Trout
WebFreeman replied to Rick F's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
Had to look it up on the net. He caught it trolling w/ downriggers, big lake gear, etc. I always wondered what kind of fish someone could bring up around Forsythe fishing like this. -
Can Missouri residents be part of the request or do you need to live in Arkansas?

New law, handfishing in Missouri
WebFreeman replied to timsfly's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
I've just email my state rep and senator politely telling them to stay out of wildlife management. I live in Republic and Dan Clemens is my state senator and also the chairman of the committee which put forth this bill. I encourage everyone in Clemens district (district 20) to write. It just takes a minute to send an email (dan_clemens@senate.mo.gov). Wayne brings up an interesting point regarding initiative petitions. This was designed to make sure the average Joe had a voice in government whether his representatives agreed or not. But in the last few years special interest groups with a lot of money have hijacked the process. I was given the opportunity to solicit names at a rate of $2.50 a piece for a petition regarding cigarette tax, with 100% of the money going toward education on the effects of tobacco. While I like the idea of the money being earmarked for a good cause, the idea that this really is an initiative petition brought by "the people" is distorted. At $2.50 a signature, that's almost $350,000 to get the 136,996 to get it on the ballot, let alone the money for paid staff and advertising if it makes the ballot. Being organized is one thing, as many conservation groups like TU and DU are. But as Al said, a vocal minority should not negatively impact the rest. Personally, I have nothing against noodling (as I told my legislators), but as others have said in the discussion, I do have a problem with untrained people practicing wildlife management. -
Anything come of this? My brother-in-law and are looking for a winter project. I noticed the photos are broken so maybe it's long gone.

I've heard there used to be a hatchery on or near the James in the Spfd. area and that occassionally a trout is still caught in the area. The story I heard, which is was second, was a 20+ incher. Anyone else ever heard these rumors?
