  1. Nice work
  2. Cool thanks.
  3. Hey waterpossum- where were u at when u saw the hogs? I heard a few years ago there were some hogs in the area but we never saw them. We are usually in the areas between Aldrich and cedar ridge though.
  4. Nice work, how big was it?
  5. Thanks for all your responses. He would use it 15-20 times per year, mostly over crappie beds and catfishing. I don't know that he needs one of the high end models, but seeing it easily is important as well as ease of use and learning it. We are close to a bass pro but not cabelas, others mentioned purchasing online and that's fine too, but when it's mentioned repairs and assistance might be important, is the savings enough that it outweighs the ease of help?
  6. Hello everyone. My dad needs a new setup so I've been looking around reading reviews etc. and thought I'd throw it out here and find out if anyone has specific models that they feel is the best. For value, what they like to use and why, or any other good information like maybe best store to look for sales etc. We personally would be looking to spend not much more than $350, but if it's determined that we need to spend more for a better model or whatever then we may do that, so feel free to discuss anything you feel pertinent to the discussion. Thanks for any info/insight you guys can provide !
  7. Congrats to your dad there crappiecole - what did it weigh in at? We usually fish for cats, but I grew up fishing for bass and pics like this makes me want to go give it a shot again. Nice work. Also thanks to u guys in this thread for the information - it really is nice when u help us casual guys out.
  8. We stopped in here to get some bait, can add a +1 to the store. Wasn't hard sold on a biscuit so I'm actually disappointed, guess I looked like I didn't need it lol, but felt like the prices were all very reasonable, including gas. Was also happy with the service. It's good to have there.
  9. Been busy past few days, forgot to update thread. Thursday morning we caught 7. Almost all were caught above muddier areas on the flats. From 8:45 - noon on cut shad. Friday morning 9-noon, 6 were caught, same story. 12-16 ft of water, muddy bottom, cut shad. Had a nice fish fry last night, along with some frozen crappie and bluegill, corn on the cob, biscuits, french fries, fried zuccini, along with plenty of adult beverages, we fed about 30 people Good luck and try to stay cool out there today.
  10. Was gonna make a new thread, but saw this one and thought I'd just post here. Fished this area yesterday and will be for rest of the week as well. Yesterday morning our boat caught 15-20 - we're not sure exactly some small ones got thrown back, we had a disagreement about whether drum should be counted etc lol - in any case a good morning. Biggest fish was around 10lbs most in 1.5-2.5 range. We also went out in evening but only caught one on an abbreviated session of less than an hour - dinner was calling ha. Damage was done slowly drifting cut shad in 12-16 ft of water along above mentioned mud and rock banks. We use this tactic often. For anyone who may not know what this is or how to rig up, you're simply floating in the boat letting the wind push you. If you have a trolling motor that helps keep your course and you moving when there is no breeze. For the pole, we hook up a simple Carolina rig with your sinker bumping the bottom. Will post this days results later. Good luck to all .
  11. Just saw this hope ur day went well. For cats, I'd look for shorelines that are gradual slope with rocky bottom. There are several shorelines that fit that description in that area. When I hit the lake Thursday we caught only a few in about 12ft of water. Crappie I haven't tried for lately so probly not much help, but we always start with jigs or minnows in timber or around the bridge.
  12. Thanks for the report and for the figure 8 tip. Never considered doing that before, but if I pick up even one good fish in my life it was worth the efforts. Thanks!
  13. Thanks for the responses. I'd be interested in the other arm as well I didn't really make that clear. So if there is a good option on that arm please do let me know. And your right his boat is a bigger boat, which is the concern especially in the winter months. Thanks!
  14. Hello - probly be been asked before if so sorry for redundancy. My Dad has a small work truck he is allowed personal use of, but is concerned about it having enough power to pull his boat out on the steeper grades like cedar ridge where we normally put in. Does anyone have recommendations on a ramp that has a shallower grade? They would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
  15. Nice work. Where were u catching them all at?
