Hey guys, Would like to hear about the conditions you find at Pommie, we are going down next weekend. Steve in STL
-
We had 8 guys staying at a resort at MM 33 on the main lake this past weekend and the water was surprisingly clear with the visibility around 3-4 feet. We did a last minute redirect to LOZ when the resort owner at Pommie called at 7AM Friday to tell us the dock would be unusable due to how quickly the water was coming up, we have been going to his place for a lot of years and he is a decent ,honest guy to call and let us know how screwed up the conditions were. Back to Loz, we had some decent results but not on a consistent basis from day to day. Plastic baits were the 1st choice of many with sinko's & 5-7" PW's the norm, colors ranged from pumpkinseed to blue & purple flecked. Spinner baits also produced but not on a consistent basis, my go to was a single colorado blade & chartreuse skirt along chunk rock back in the coves. One of the other guys did well on a SB in shallow water way in the backs of coves, three keeps in a few hours Sunday AM before the sky opened up again. The best bite for me fishing plastics was in about 8-10 feet of water while sitting in about 20. Everyone agreed the bite was light with a lot of fish just picking up the bait and moving it, or extremely quick hits with just a split second to react. Depending on the fishing preference of each boat we caught fish from 2-15 feet of water every day. On Sunday I caught my big fish which was nicknamed lil pig, not a trophy by any means but a solid 19" 3 1/2 pounder, short & squat and full of eggs is my guess. My son insisted on one final boat ride Sunday before heading in (so he could drive of course) and we headed around the corner and up into the Nianga, there was significant difference in clarity with a distinct tinge of brown, we only ran up a few miles but I am sure it was worse farther upstream. On the way home heading up 44 towards STL we encountered a circus/freakshow right in the middle of the same storm that nailed us as we were loading up. Torrential rain + many stupid drivers = many accidents in a short stretch of highway, I was a few miles in front of my buddies and counted four incidents, and they said a couple more must have happened after I passed, all of them between the Big Piney to Rolla stetch. My personal favorite was the old man in an old Chevy stepside (1965 vintage) hauling about a 16 foot fully loaded trailer with a giant blue tarp flapping wildly in the wind, as I was about to go around him his rig started the weebie jeebies with the front end of his truck and the back of the trailer gyrating in opposite directions, when I went past I took a look his direction and his knuckles were white gripping the steering wheel and his eyes were the size of silver dollars, thank God he got it slowed down. All in all a great trip with good friends and some interesting moments thrown in for good measure. Steve in STL

Have a bunch of guys going to Pomme this weekend and would like to gather some info regarding conditions after the rains we received, been following the USGS site as to water level but we are curious about fishing conditions, water clarity, etc. Would like any info we can get. Steve in STL

It seems to me this forum is set up for many different topics to be covered. I believe it is a great place to exchange ideas with like minded (or not) people rather than just "spew crap". Steve in STL

I agree with fozzie's post regarding the near decimation of game populations in the late 19th & early 20th centuries. You could also throw in multitudes of waterfowl that were nearly lost in the same time period in the name of vanity due to the craze for plumes in womens hats. How can anyone defend industry or jobs that deplete resources that belong to all of us, our children and generations to follow. Seems pretty darn selfish to me. The jist of the origination of this post was a kneejerk reaction to a story which turned out to be an opinion piece apparantly done without any editorial review by ESPN. We live in an age of instant news and it might be a good idea to sit back and analyze the information before foaming at the mouth. This age of instant news whips people into a frenzy often times due to misinformation which comes from hundreds of sources on the minute, all in the name of selling an advertisement. Where is Roseannrosanadana when we need her. We are living in a time when some people want us to believe all government and all regulation is bad, not true I say. As long as we the people are involved and use our voices bad policies can be averted. Steve in STL

Trav it seems to me you fish non-stop. When you are not on the water you are on this forum fishing for a debate (argument). Your bait of choice here are the outlandish and controversial statements you make to entice your quarry, we forum members. I must admit you are a pretty darn good forum fisherman, the proof of that is the number of replies to your posts. I could be wrong but it looks like you are angling for a boat ride based on some of your recent posts. I agree with boz, why don't you fish the last Lilley's tournament and show us all how it is done. P.S. Don't get me wrong, I thrive on a little spirited conversation as do many other OAF members. To Phil or anyone else that boat fishes on a regular basis, Looking forward to our southern trek to the balmy weather of SoMo from the arctic region of STL. Actually I would like to gather info. on generation, any reports fellow fisherman would care to share and possibly a direct question to Phil regarding the use of the public ramp at Cooper's. Do you think it will be usable this weekend? With the bitter cold it usually only takes a few haulouts to render it useless. Any info would be greatly appreciated by me and several other fisherman that will be making the trip down. Steve in STL

Thanks for the reply, actually I was exploring the idea of going back to a Hummingbird in the dash and reusing the existing transducer or simply going over to all Lowrance and networking. Steve in STL

Hello to all, Looking for any & all suggestions to a solution for an in-dash sonar need. Currently have a Hummingbird LCR-W that came with my boat that shot craps. Does anyone know if there is a current Humminbird compatible with with the glassed in transducer the original came with? Is it a bad idea to re-use a transducer? I recently installed a Lowrance X-135 with a transom mounted skimmer transducer which is NMEA compatible. It might be cool to have both the in-dash and front graph networked using the same transducer but I can not seem to find an economically priced in-dash unit. Any ideas or links to sites that may have in depth information would be appreciated, I can't seem to gather much good info from the Lowrance or Hummingbird sites. Thanks, Steve in STL

I was just getting to the point where I could post and navigate on the old site, still trying to figure out a way to reduce the size of a photo I would like to use for my profile pic. I have tried several times and was hoping the sites reducer would help get the image down to an acceptable size, no luck. Change is typically for the best, my problem is I am always a little reluctant to jump in. Could be an age thing. Steve in STL

Anyone out there have info about results from the Big Bass extravaganza last weekend, have a little tournament this weekend and would appreciate anything I can get regarding conditions. Steve in STL

Spring & Fall are ideal for taking advantage of LOZ's fishing, most of the big rigs are winterized and put to sleep for about 7-8 months of the year. The topic starter might not think those crashes were so funny if he knew a young boy died in the helicopter accident.

Hello out there, Does anyone have any good, current info. about fishing at Pommie? I know the corp has been dropping the level for several weeks which does not bode well for our excursion. Not much we can do about it but it sure sucks, this is 2 years in a row we have hit it on a substantial drawdown. Any reports would be greatly appreciated. Steve in STL

Hey csfihinfool, Wild story, not knowing what it was would bother me for a while. My wife and I (girlfriend then) and a bunch of friends were on an overnight float on the Current back in the day, back when I was always lacking folding money. My idea of lodging was a big poly tarp folded and staked to form a lean to. In the dead of night my buddies Aussie shepard ran a critter right over her and I in our sleeping bags. She refused to go camping with me again until I provided decent overnight accomodations. I still have that Timberline tent. Steve in STL

Thoughts And Comments On Forum Expansion
knuck replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
Is it more is always better or how big is too big! As for my own selfish interests it would be great to see more info. regarding fisheries surrounding St Louis, but if you include us what about every other city within a 250 mile radius of Branson. It sounds good to me Phil I just hope you know what your in for, sounds like your going nationwide. Steve in STL -
Thanks Phil, Did not realize it was that easy. You are correct as to why I don't have an account I guess in this techno world we have to be "out there" to fully utilize all of the info available. Thanks again, Steve in STL

Got the message just a few minutes to late, guess we non-facebook types are out of luck. Steve in STL

Hey Phil, We know you are busy, but would sure like to see any photos you have to share from the tournament. Sounds like the average fish size has been pretty respectable the past few weeks. Thanks, Steve in STL Go Warner

Hello forum, After the post joeD made I felt a rant was in order. I have always been a believer in live and let live up until the point it affects the overall good of society in general. What we are seeing right now in our country I believe to be unprecedented in modern times. The clash of capitalism vs. socialism, the multitudes of citizens in our country that believe it is O.K. to cheat(steal) to get ahead, the moral decay i.e. Hollywoods attempt to bring pornography into the mainstream. Rugged individualism was a trait this country has thrived on, but it has been perverted to, I am an individual let me do what I want to regardless of who is harmed. My up bringing was in mainstream religion which I have fallen away fom in my adult years, but my moral compass is still directed by what was taught in my youth. Sex was kept in private!!!!! I can not drive to Branson without having pornography advertising foisted on my family and I. Wallstreet screams FREE MARKET CAPITALISM!!! until they convolute or steal so much from the system with so called products or instuments they have to beg for money from "We The People". Is that not socialism? I realize this post is all over the place and my point is, we in the middle need to make a differance by vocalizing our displeasure with the extremes of left and right politics. Maybe a little hokie "All for one and one for all" is in order. Sorry to take up so much space. Steve in St. Louis

Phil, The situation you describe is a familiar one to us here in St. Louis. The authorities actually closed the 1st highway rest stop travelers had access to on I-255 coming west into Missouri. It was closed approximately 10-12 years ago and to the best of my knowledge is still closed. It got so bad a person could spot these people walking to & from the woods often carrying blankets, when driving by on the interstate. We also have several lesser used county parks that tend to attract these men. In many locals a man can be registered as a sex offender for urinating in public. How can these people engage in this activity day after day without fear of punishment The best of luck to you in raising public awareness of the situation. I have taken my family to those very spots when vacationing down there and am not sure how I would react if my family was exposed to that B.S. Good luck, Steve in St. Louis
