  1. Great job on the limit of crappie! I don't ever recall catching any walleye at nighttime, so am excited to hear that you guys are getting those too. Have caught several whites and occasionally a channel cat. Have had a rod and reel ripped off the boat right between my legs. Happen so quickly I didn't hardly even react lol. If any one out there catches a fish with a Shakespeare ugly stick ultra light rod with a Pflueger trion reel attached to the other end of the line, please return it along with the fish. 😫
  2. Haven't night fished Stockton since 2015. Nothing like being out on the lake under the stars when the wind dies down. Maybe this was just me, but between the years of 2012-2015, all I caught were a ton of 9.5"-9.75" shorts. Tried different colors of lights, various structures, different presentations and have fished all hours on the night; yet all yielded the same results. I kept thinking that these things would HAVE to grow up and be keeping size the next year. Never happen. Maybe by now these fish are 16-17" monsters! Who has been catching the fish I have fed all my minnows to over the years?!
  3. Yes, good point. I would offer my two cents, but haven't had the battery long enough to offer any advice other than the price is pretty good when comparing to similar batteries.
  4. Academy sports has a good deal on a dual purpose battery right now. On sale for $75. I bought it for $90 about a month ago. There is also a $5-$10 rebate on it. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/exide-stowaway-dual-purpose-marine-battery#repChildCatid=785504. There is also a smaller sized starting battery on sale for around $55 and a bigger deep cycle for around $80. Good luck!
  5. We usually buy our minnows from The Trading Post in Greenfield. (Corner of 160 and H). They were out of crappie minnows last Saturday. They did however have plenty of the medium sized, but I have never have had much luck with the larger sized ones during the colder months. I hear that Son Sac Marine by Southwinds Motel off H may have some, but I have never been there. Might keep a good variety of micro jigs with extra light line and sensitive equipment on board as I am sure you probably do. Boy there was some nice looking boats on the lake last Saturday! Despite the overcast, you guys had them polished up and they were gleaming!
  6. Seems like the last couple of years have been tough predicting the spawn on Stockton with the crazy weather. I hope that doesn't lead to another year of 9 1/2 inch crappie night fishing again this year! I have heard lots of talk lately from friends about the crappie run and figured I would share my findings: April 26- Limit on all males in the shallows. (All minnows) May 3- Limit on mostly females in the shallows. (They bit everything) May 11- Very slow; but managed to hook a few males in the shallows. (Threw everything at them except the kitchen sink) Water surface temp was around 75. I am not sure what the fishing was like during the week days. Maybe you can get where the water stays cooler a little longer and catch a few female stragglers, and/or males guarding the nests. I usually put in at Roark Park Bluff. Good luck.
  7. I was on the water at 6:15am on 4-20-14 and could see fine. I would say 6am would be pushing it though. Good luck!
  8. Thanks for the information guys. I figure the female bass should be on the nests soon.
  9. Does anyone know what the morning water temperatures are around CC? I was on the main lake a week ago and it was still around 51 degrees.
  10. Thanks for the report and the tips on finding the fish.
  11. Launched at Hawker Point today and fished several hours in depths of 15' to 60'. I attempted to stay on top of the shad with a vertical presentation, but probably looked rather foolish in my feeble attempts. I have fished my whole life, but I am not the person you want as your tournament partner during the winter! My hats off to the anglers who found and caught the crappie today. None the less, it is always great being out on the water enjoying the eagles and the scenery. If you are going to the lake before the cold weather moves back in, I saw a lot of boats in the Old State Park Cove fishing in around 30 feet of water. Sorry, but that is about the only useful information I can provide. Good luck out there!
  12. Would someone mind telling me if there is any ice around where the Shell Knob ramp is located? I was wanting to fish Sunday, 2-16-14. I tried Stockton and the whole lake is pretty-well iced over. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
