I have one that a buddy built for me much like yours. It puts out a ton of light, too much in my experience. I was finding that I couldn't get bait close to the boat, and only the rods away from the light got bit. I took half off so that I ended up with a little over a foot of length coiled, and put the rest on a long horizontal piece that I hung just above the water line. Bait in the net and fish biting my bait increased exponentially. Just my two cents.

I know two people personally that spearfish for walleye during the season, and about 100 that either fish actively for them or keep them whenever they catch them with rod and reel. Add to the equation that only two can be kept by spearing, I would guess the actual take by spearfishing would be infinitesimal by comparison. What is the difference in you catching and eating 3 or 4 with a rod and someone catching two with a spear gun? I guess I just don't understand the hatred some sportsmen spew towards other sportsmen who utilize differing legal methods to harvest their game. And as far as the shooting of short eyes goes, I'm sure it happens from Time to time, but I would bet the farm that more shorts are taken home that were caught by a hook and line rather than a spear. The issue, if there even is one, is the complete lack of enforcement on this lake.

I was thinking the same thing, but I was doing really poorly with my trolling and it wasnt until I switched to the bb that I had any success. I did put 2 18's a 21, 22, and 23 Iin the boat doing this, but it wasnt his weekend jt was last weekend, when my numbers were lower. The thing that excites me is that I will be able to apply what im learning now next uear when the conditions are better. Smarter every day is the hope.

I had the rare opportunity to fish three mornings this weekend. I have been on a mission the last month to figure out late summer walleye On bottom bouncers. It is a technique I had not had prior success with and everything has been new to me. It started as a struggle, but through hook, technique, and presentation changes I have learned each trip. This last weekend was the best for me so far. Not so much with size, but with quantity. I have been bouncing in 25 fow on long points going between .8 and 1 mph with crawlers and half crawlers. Colors in silver, copper, and light chartreuse. Friday morning we landed 6 with multiple misses, saturday morning was 7, with more misses and a good 20" plus getting off at the boat, and sunday with 7 more and probably 15 short bites. Looking back I should have set up on the point and jigged. Many of the bites came when the bait was bouncing off a snag or on purpose. Should have taken the hint. Every one of these were shorts, with an awful lot being 17 3/4.......frustrating. Also caught probably 15 catfish and more giant bluegill than you could shake a stick at. Each day we were on the water from 6 until 11:30 am. Pleasure boaters were nuts. Im pretty sure I have a big target painted on my boat that says "buzz me". And I think the cigarette boats and jet skis can see it the best.

J-Doc, your problem is that you don't have enough bananas in the boat.

That's one of those largemouth walleye. Easy to get confused though.

Clearly no one here has seen Southpark or heard of sarcasm before.

I'm not throwing stones, I'm simply providing an illustration for our narrative. Levity was all that was meant. If I thought bass were eating my striper and walleye, I would be pissed too!

I went out yesterday evening from 12 bridge and dragged crawlers on a bb on a couple points. It was both the best bite, but the worst trip I have had in a while. I had quite a few solid bites on points around 25', but every one got off after a short fight. I was also pulling a flicker 100' back, and had a good fish on that let go just behind the boat. Another fish on the bb felt great until my knot failed. I managed to get one good spot in the boat and several bluegills. I marked lots of fish and had plenty of bites, but everything I did right, I did wrong. The only thing that made it ok was that the weather was great and there weren't many pleasure boaters out mucking things up for me.

Have any of you heard if the flood gates are open or not? I would like to take my wife out to see it this afternoon if they are.
