  1. Bob - Are you using live worms? What are your thoughts on using plastics versus live? What are the advantages and disadvantages of plastics and live?
  2. Good looking fish. The few times I've been down to fish Stockton I've had good luck going strictly at walleye. My next trip won't be until the fall. I'm hoping the bite picks up around mid-September again. I'm planning on drifting the flats with various worm harnesses on bouncers.
  3. I trolled cranks on the weekend of the 4th. No crappie..only walleye. Was very slow compared to the spring.
  4. In my case the guy in the back of the boat gets hung in trotlines or the prop of my motor... and always like to tell you where you need to drive the boat! But I'll keep him around... he's fun to fish with.
  5. I've never tried the lead core. The reason I ended up going with the new type of SpiderWire is due to the $5 rebate for 125 yard of line. I figured I'd give it a try. I actually never thought about it the leader like Zarra is talking about. I personally have like using the counter reels. I'm going to stop by Cabela's in KCK on my way home and get a few more. They are on sale this week. I plan to put various strengths of line for quick change out. I also agree on the longer pole. I've had issues with guys in my boat when I turn around after we get into fish. The longer the pole the easier it is to stay out of the motor.
  6. With all the different fishing line on the market I was wondering what time of line others are using when trolling. I am about to try the new Spiderwire Stealth in 15 pound strength. Typically I troll crank baits with a counter reel. Monofilament line tends to kink up when trolling. I finally got tired of changing out the line regularly. What types are others using?
  7. I'm needing some work done as well on a 2013 fourstroke Mercury. I'd prefer to use Son Sac. Is Bill a certified Mercury mechanic? My motor is still under warranty. On his website it appears he's a Johnson and Evinrude.
  8. I have used Flickers primarily lately. I personally like the 9s. I also have a like for some of the various walleye runners that I can get down to about 20 foot while trolling. I also purchased a couple of LiveTarget baitballs. I still haven't caught anything with them. But I have only had one in the water for a total of one hour.
  9. Launched at Mutton Creek at 7:00 AM... only got about 15 minutes around Googer before the rain hit. Was delayed until about 8:15ish. Launched again. Trolled B7 from 8:30 to about 9. Didn't see much on the finder and didn't get any hits. Fired up and went to Hawker point. Ended up with two walleye that kept in that area to include a 25 incher in 14 fow. Had a couple of other walleye dinks and one bass dink. Left Hawker at around 11:30 and stopped at B6. Trolled and picked up another 22 inch Walleye in 18 fow. Ended the day with three keeper walleye. Used a slow death rig, #7 Flicker (slick purple) and a #9 Flicker (charteuse, pink). TOW was 78-81. I did not hit any crappie while trolling. I'm willing to bet they have moved onto the brush at this point. The walleye seemed to be about 2-3 foot from the bottom in 14-18 fow.

I can't go tonight or tomorrow night. I'm planning on fishing stockton early on Friday. Hopefully on Saturday night I'll get some gig time in. Some pictures of stringers filled with frogs would be appropriate for OAF. I've got two secret ponds in Nevada Missouri that are going to get picked the following weekend.

I've been to the bays in Texas to chase Redfish. Its a good time, but I never tasted one. Does everyone realize that frogging season starts at sundown tonight? Looks like this years numbers will be excellent. I think the mild winter combined with the rain will produce some good frogs.

If you can show me a decent recipe I'll give them a try. I remember as a kid one time my father decided to filet and fry him up. To this day I still have a vivid memory of how nasty that thing tasted.

I catch a drummer boy just about every trip.
  14. I would recommend calling RB to make sure they have a site. Last week the only available site that we could find to camp was at Cedar Ridge CG. RB, Mutton and Hawker were all filled up. Also it seemed like RB last weekend turned into LOZ with all the party boats turning the water. I pretty much got skunked at RB last Saturday evening. The party boats seemed to want to hug the shoreline and be right next to the brush piles blaring loud music.
  15. I saw you Monday. Good work on Monday if you ended up with 22. What depth were you trolling? I was running mostly at 22 foot. Obviously I didn't get on them. It was nice having the cove to ourselves all morning.
  16. I ran some death rigs and had LM Bass hitting them instead of walleye. I was using 3 inch gulp. Two of them would have kept, I turned them both back. Caught them on Friday.
  17. Lake is up about 5 foot. Water was clear. Saw lots of fish on the downscan, just nothing hitting. Seemed like they had lockjaw on me this weekend as well as today.
  18. Launched at Mutton Creek at 5 PM on Saturday 6-20. TOW was 78 with lots of play boats all around. Trolled inside the cove all the way to Chicken Rock. Trolled in to Birch Branch. Only caught one keeper crappie and one dink white. Was a tough evening with the water stirred up as well as the party pontoons with loud radios going. Loaded up and left by 8:30. Launched at Hawker this morning 6-22 at 6:30 got off the lake at 3:00 PM. Trolled to the bridge then back into the cove. Ran several different rigs to include 7 & 9 flickershad, 4 inch walleye runners, live targer bait ball, and slow death rig. Caught 8 keeper crappie, two dink walleye, one dink LM bass, and a dink small mouth. Didn't really find a pattern. Seemed like random hits in random areas. No pattern to the colors or depth either. TOW got up to 79-80. Wind was out of the SW at about 15-20 MPH.
  19. Launched at noon. Trolled several different things to include different crankbaits and slow death rigs. Ended up with with 8 keeper crappie and two walleye. Also had two keeper largemouth that I released for future fisherman to catch. Total in the boat were three adults and a 7 yearold. Didn't really see any sort of patern with them. They were all really random bites in open water. The crappie still had some eggs in them.
  20. Lowe STX 175 in classy camouflage with KS Tags. Hopefully I can get launched tomorrow afternoon weather permitting if that is the case we will have four adults, two kids on two boats trolling. I would hope we will be able to figure out where a few fish are.
  21. Sounds great. I'll mostly be trolling. I'll let you know how I do. I'm going to try to stick around to fish until Tuesday. In the past I've had great success at Hawker this time of the year.
  22. I'm wondering the same thing. Hopefully this rain will go away by afternoon tomorrow. I'm planning on hitting the water all weekend until Tuesday. I should have reports ready each night. We are going to have two boats on the water. I'm also hoping this weather doesn't cause lockjaw on the fish. Not for sure where I will be putting in either but was planning on at least hitting Hawker Point area.
  23. There are several other trolling methods I've tried to include trolling in reverse. I didn't care for that method. It seemed akward. I have also hooked up a drift sock while to get even slower when using the main motor.
  24. I have a Lowrance Elite 7. It has a chartplotter with sonar and downscan. I had mine mounted onto a "ram mount" onto the console. I troll with my main motor. The chartplotter will tell you exactly where you are and been on the water. It comes in handy when making exact passes or in some cases moving simply 3 feet farther out. As far as getting the exact speed the Lowrance gets you pretty close. I can run as low as 1 mph if i tweak with my trim. Typically I run at 1.5-2 mph when using cranks. I personally don't like using the "trolling motor" on my boat. It's too much work and I like my cup holder by my steering wheel.
  25. Use the app to get a speed then take not of where the RPMs are on the boat. Then you won't have to worry about draining your phone.
