  1. I guess you are right, the tax thing is very confusing, especially based on state. It looks like MO and KS are actually not that bad. I guess you have to start picking it apart by state to start looking at percentage based taxes on gasoline etc. I still wish it was less though.
  2. I've done some thinking about this and while I hate the gas prices, I think I am one of those people that does not worry about it a whole lot (another than the annoyance that I feel I'm being ripped off). I drive a Toyota Tacoma with a V6 that averages 19-20 regular driving and gets as high as 21 on some highway trips. I am also an IT guy who travels 1200-1600 (sometimes higher) miles per month for work. That part is paid for but I usually drive an additional 1500-2000. With that being said I was looking at getting rid of the truck, buying a Honda Civic that would get 35 MPG (estimate) and at current prices would save maybe $120-130 per month. I am on a budget just like everyone else but I don't think those numbers will justify getting a more efficient vehicle. I don't consider 20 mpg in a truck that inefficient anyway. I will just try to conserve in other areas (cut down eating fast food which will take years off your life anyway, trying to shop smarter at the grocery store, etc). I have been from KC to Taney three times in the last 5 weeks and I think gas will have to hit $5.00 for me to start changing plans (I save money to take these trips in the spring). I heard Rush say something yesterday that made sense. If the oil companies did have a way to control oil prices and lowered them (not to start that argument), do you not think the government would raise the taxes on it to make up for the lost revenue? (their percentage would shrink due to the drop in price). The government tax aspect on energy sucks. Just like anything else, lower taxes, people have more money in their pockets, it helps the economy (why is that so difficult?)
  3. I was down there a few weeks ago and believe it or not, saw two small rainbows in the city park, just above the bridge near the playground. There is a small rock bluff there and they would go back an forth from the current and the bluff. The water was running very well near the park and at the lower WRA.
  4. Do you think this will have an effect on the Memorial Day crowd in Branson? Hopefully all of the merchants are not hurting that bad. Our society seems to like their vacations, which is a good thing.
  5. I stopped by Crane a couple of times over last week/weekend. There were a couple of trout in the city park right near the playground, very skittish. I casted a couple of times but spent most of the time watching them and looking the rest of the creek over. I walked through the lower WR access and the water is really up. I noticed MDC signs on both sides of the road near the parking area. Isn't the side with the dairy farm private propery?
  6. I always like his show because there is alot of "open water" fishing it seems, out in the middle of the lake fishing the bottom for smallies, walleye, etc. It is always interesting
  7. I think it looks good. In my opinion the white background is best, it looks more professional. As far as the slowness goes, are you hosting the site in your actual building or is a hosting service doing it for you? If the webhost is handling it they should be able to look into better resources (as you mentioned hardware, etc) as well as application related problems (what type of application/database is the site based on and do they offer something that performs better, and what does it take to get it migrated from one to the other, or is it even possible?). Like Flysmallie mentioned also, on the certificate stuff, if you are not actually hosting the site yourself, they should be able to manage that (most of the time it goes through a 3rd party provider such as Verisign or Geotrust)
  8. I have set of Hodgman waders for sale. My wife has worn them 4 times, usually for only a couple hours. They are size medium, mossy oak, boot foot (non-felt). They are like new and come with the repair kit. $35 + $10 shipping see pic for details (they have been stored in a closet with the boots touching the floor)
  9. Rogers Sporting Goods in Liberty, MO is selling Feather Lights for $9.99. I don't know how much shipping would be though. They also have the 7ft models with snake guides as opposed to the ring guides. Just in case anyone is still looking at these.... www.rogerssportinggoods.com

  12. Thanks for the info. I am going to put a South Bend reel (1141 which is identical to the Plueger 1492). I had to buy it at the Branson Kmart a couple of years ago when I left my fly reel at home. I ordered the 6.5 ft.
  13. I know there was a thread on this but I wanted to make sure someone sees this post. I am going to buy one of these Eagle Claw featherweights and wanted to get some opinions on the two lengths. Does there appear to be any actual difference in action between the two? A 7ft almost seems like a better idea for those areas where there is a little more room to cast. I'm looking to use it in a few creeks around northeast Kansas, mainly bluegill and bass. Thanks
  14. I am from the area, right outside of Lawrence,
  15. For users at work you can also try this www.mobilefirefox.com It lets you use a copy of the browser from flash drive, external disk, CD etc. It also keeps your internet history etc untraceable (keeps it on the media from which it is run). You can use this granted that your work computer is not locked down against mounting other storage devices. As for IE 7.0. I like it. I have allowed it to install on the majority of my client networks. It does a better job of protecting against the bad stuff. The tabbed browsing is nice also.

  17. Does flourocarbon really make that much of a difference? I was on Taney Friday and Saturday and somehow managed to only catch one trout (decent rainbow). I usually do OK, not sure what I was doing wrong. I did read a report from Angler and Achers that said some were going to 8x flourcarbon. I didn't really think about it while I was there (I was using 7x mono RIO). I'll try it on the next trip I guess. I was fishing mainly with Hare's Ear (#18), grey scud (#18-20), and olive soft hackle (#16-18). Any suggestions here?
  18. gold ribbed hare's ear is one of my favorites for Taney, size 16, 18, 20. I have been tying them with lead wire for weight, seems to work well
  19. I am not against it. There have been countless arguments to complicate the issue of course. I look at it this way, I have to show a photo ID to go to another country, drive a car, write a check (sometimes), or buy a 17lb box of cereal from Costco. Voting is serious business and it seems really obvious to me that a simple ID that proves you are legal is just common sense Just my .02
  20. Now that I have thought about the issue more (issue with copying flies), I guess I can see where this guy (charteredwaters.com) is coming from. This is more related to people taking the credit for designs I think (rather than a fly tyer just tying a few in their living room) Phil is making a better discussion of this with a new topic under general discussion (copying flies, ethical or unethical?). When it comes to developing a product (if that is what you are trying to accomplish, and if so good for you) then it is fair game unless you protect it with copyrights, patents, etc. Its a tough business world...
  21. I also found a game from Fly Logic called Fly Fishing the Green River which has very realistic scenery. I haven't been able to download a demo for it though. That one might require an actual purchase of the media. I am going to purchase one of these after I research a bit more. I don't mind paying for the software, especially for something cool...
  22. something I read on another site R&D (ripoff and duplicate), posers, integrity chips, its not Mcdonalds, its Mcdowells? I'm not sure here, is this sarcasm or just kidding around maybe? I hope. If not, I don't know what to say... Hopefully someone on this forum knows what I'm talking about... not trying to start any trouble by all means. I guess I am just missing something...
  23. www.flysim.com I played the demo but will probably purchase it. It is actually pretty realistic (I think anyway) The demo will let you catch one fish and then makes you start over. The demo does not give you all of the rivers. The response/control of the rod with the mouse is very cool. It lets you select fly, tippet, weight, drag, etc. Some have probably already seen this but I thought I should post it. Thanks
