  1. nice eye rps . . . any place local (Springfield) where you can buy that "hog trough"?
  2. I have FOUR "Brand New" Capps and Coleman 14 foot crappie rods . . . Model CCT143 . . . on average, these rods sell for about $60 plus tax . . . I will sell them for $45 each or ALL FOUR FOR $160 . . . NEVER USED, TAGS/LABELS STILL ON RODS . . . great rods for SLOW TROLLING, DIPPING TREES, SPIDER-RIGGING . . . a GREAT DEAL . . . CALL OR TEXT GEORGE at Four-One-Seven . . . Eight-Nine-Four . . . One-Five-Three-Six
  3. I have now downsized from a full-size fishing boat to a fishing kayak. I have already sold most of my rod and reel combos and have kept just a few to use in the kayak. I have now decided to also downsize my fishing lures and other tackle to a minimum. I have always over-bought when it comes to fishing lures and have more than I will ever be able to use. In addition, I have two adult sons who always buy fishing equipment for me on birthdays, Fathers Day and Christmas. They also gave me subscriptions to Mystery Tackle Box. I have many lures that are NEW and that I know I will never have the time to use. Bass, walleye, crappie, and trout are categories of lures and tackle that I have over-bought and over-received in MULTIPLES. Megabass, Luckycraft, Spro and Rapala jerkbaits, Senkos, War Eagle spinnerbaits, plastics (swimbaits, creature baits, flukes, worms), Zman, Yamomoto, square-bill crankbaits, medium-depth crankbaits, TOPWATER lures, TERMINAL TACKLE (Gamakatsu and Owner weighted and weightless hooks), skirted and non-skirted jigs (War Eagle), LINE (braided, fluorocarbon, monofilament) . . . and on, and on, and on. Call or text GEORGE with any questions at Four-One-Seven . . . Eight-Nine-Four . . . One-Five-Three-Six
  4. just posted all details and photos on Craigslist . . . https://springfield.craigslist.org/spo/6077164195.html
  5. didn't think I'd be doing a lot of laughing on this gloomy, windy and cold day in Springfield MO . . . but you guys have changed all that . . . lol
  6. wow! . . . EVERYTHING makes perfect sense . . . most impressive thing to me about all of the responses, there seems to be a great deal of AGREEMENT among all of you VETERAN CRANKERS out there which ends up being a TIME and MONEY SAVER for those NOVICE CRANKERS like myself . . . thanks again for willingly contributing such valuable information . . . VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
  7. thanks Smalls21 and dwiebenga . . . that's some great advice . . . just those two responses narrow the purchase-possibilities significantly . . . a BIG HELP for sure!
  8. I've got a CONFIDENCE in CRANKS PROBLEM . . . not my favorite bait to fish . . . own just a few . . . usually stay in the box . . . REFUSE to enter the 20-20 CLUB (20 colors/20 sizes) . . . want to try and give em a go this spring . . . PLEEEEEASE help me narrow the selection based on your experience . . . Wiggle Wart or RkCrawler??? . . . and perhaps color???
  9. gonna be a lot of DUMPSTER DIVERS out tonight!!!
  10. awesome Ben . . . especially from the perspective of a fellow-kayaker . . . I'm afraid if these FANTASTIC FISH-CATCHING REPORTS keep coming in from you and Quill, the banks are going to look like OPENING DAY AT MO TROUT PARKS!!!
  11. Hey Quill . . . great job!!! . . . how many guys fishing from even the MOST EXPENSIVE RIG out there would've had that kind of a day??? . . . YOU ARE AMAZING!!! . . . hopefully your post will result in many boats being posted FOR SALE by the weekend and maybe I'll be able to pick up a FULLY-LOADED PHOENIX FOR AROUND $10K . . . lol
  12. THANK SHAKER AND ONESHOT . . . this now gives me places to try on both Truman and Pomme de Terre . . . very much appreciate both of you for being so kind in sharing the info on Truman . . . I'm excited and will pass along results and photos as I eventually try your recommended areas . . . and special thanks to you oneshot for your input on both Truman and Pomme de Terre
  13. oneshot . . . thank you so much for the advice . . . I will definitely give it a try . . . sounds perfect . . . that gives me 3 places to try on PDT that are all out of the mainstream and protected . . . I am soooo anxious to give them all a try . . . thanks to EVERYONE!!!
  14. MOPan and Ranger . . . I could not have found better advice than what you have given . . . I looked up both areas on my Pomme de Terre map . . . both areas look perfect in every way from my point of view . . . can't wait to give them a try . . . I am so thankful for this forum and the advice members are willing to share . . . wonderful!!! . . . I'll post after my first trip and hopefully with a few photos . . . probably have to wait just a little while to allow my knee to further heal . . . it will then be the first place I fish in the kayak . . . thanks again!
  15. thank you so much MOPanfisher and crappie jerk for your input . . . I am downsizing and "slowing down" in my approach to fishing . . . just sold my wareagle . . . my approach to fishing in the future will be more about the esthetics and photography than number of fish boated . . . crappie jerk, I think you and I have a lot in common . . . I am also an "old goat" and as a result of a recent injury, have a lung and resulting stamina problem . . . all new to me and very frustrating . . . in addition, I had my knee replaced 6 weeks ago (which made my trip to MS literally "a real pain" but well worth it in terms of memories . . . the main reason I am asking for info is because I have fished Pomme de Terre and Truman very little during my lifetime and plan on focusing on them as my main lakes in the future . . . MOPanfisher the area of Bolivar Landing by way of Hwy 13 north from Springfield is probably most convenient for me but I am not going to limit myself to that area . . . most of the days I fish I will probably fish 6 hours like from 8am to 2 or 3pm and allowing myself 1-2 hours to reach my destination by car . . . that leaves me with area of Pomme de Terre as "fair game"
  16. WOW!!! 7 pound walleye . . . NICE!!
  17. hey Devan S. . . interesting stuff . . . I think you made a smart move picking Enid over Grenada on that one and only day . . . I have never fished Grenada but I know it can a bear in terms of wind . . . the word last week in MS was that even if the wind would lay, the fishing has not been good at Grenada and that it needs to fill more from the winter draw-down . . . sounds like you had a lot of action at Enid and had a good time . . . fighting strong winds, even with 2 wind socks out, can absolutely prevent you from maintaining the proper spider-rigging speed at this time of the year . . . your guide is right because if you hit it right on any of the MS monster-crappie lakes (Enid, Sardis, Arkabutla, Grenada or Washington) the fishing can be INSANELY FABULOUS!!! . . . I had the pleasure of experiencing one of those days last Saturday at Washington! . . . I always remember that MONSTER-CRAPPIE TIME IN MS IS FROM VALENTINES DAY TO APRIL FOOLS DAY . . . that's when you have a GOOD CHANCE for a SPECTACULAR day of crappie fishing with many 2-POUND PLUS fish . . . I know for a fact that spider-rigging is consistently very good on Truman Lake . . . I have experienced it first-hand with guide Jeff Falkenberry (IMO, the very best of the best crappie guide on Truman) . . . I'm not familiar at all with the King's arm of TRL, but, in general, TRL would not be by first choice for spider-rigging in MO . . . the rods are the CHEAP PART OF SPIDER-RIGGING . . . 4 X $60 . . . the expense comes in with the rod holders . . . "INDIVIDUAL" TITE-LOK ROD HOLDERS ARE THE ONLY WAY TO GO . . . a set of 8 with the mounting base between $600-$800 . . . 8 Jenko 16ft rods at $60 each $480 . . . the 2 combined are an unbeatable set-up and are superior to any other combination, IMO
  18. I certainly do not wish to OVERSTEP MY PRIVILEGES allowed on this wonderful forum, but in response to the many questions and comments members have come forward with regarding Lake Washington, MS CRAPPIE FISHING, I decided to let everyone know about the 2 videos I posted on You Tube following my APRIL, 2016 trip . . . AFTER THE SPAWN (crappie not as big, but still big . . . if you know what I mean) . . . it will give you more insight into the lake and area . . . to view either video, simply go to You Tube and do a search for Jerry Gross . . . 2 videos will come up, each showing an individual holding crappie . . . one video is 8 minutes in length and the other is 4-5 minutes in length . . . if interested, I hope you enjoy!!!
  19. hey vernon . . . thank you very much . . . you're much too kind . . . SPEAKING OF A YOU TUBE VIDEO, THERE JUST HAPPENS TO BE A COUPLE THAT I POSTED ON YOU TUBE after my trip to LAKE WASHINGTON in 2016 . . . to see it, go to You Tube and SEARCH Jerry Gross . . . there will be 2 different videos that come up . . . each showing a person holding 2 CRAPPIE . . . one is about 8 minutes in length and the other about 4-5 minutes in length . . . take a look . . . hope you enjoy them!!!
  20. thanks Bill . . . I'll be glad to pass along what I know, especially considering ALL OF MOUNDS OF INFO YOU HAVE SHARED WITH FORUM MEMBERS OVER THE YEARS . . . 8 rods on a boat is the normal setup . . . 16ft rods preferred . . . a company called Jenko has produced a new spider-rigging rod which is catching on like fire down in the south . . . can also be used for single-pole dipping among the trees . . . the rod has a heavy butt section with a very flexible tip . . . the heavier rod is definitely preferable in the south to prevent the BIG CRAPPIE from taking control and running right or left . . . the 1.5 to 2 mph is way out of line . . . never that fast . . . the only guides that ever approach 1 to 1.5 mph are those that are long-lining crankbaits or roadrunners out of the back of the boat . . . I went down for three days (thurs, fri, sat) and fished with my favorite guide Jerry Gross . . . there are only 3 guides on the lake that I know of and, IMO, Jerry is the best for many reasons . . . at this time of the year in MS, you spider-rig at .3 to .4 mph and, as the water temp increases you increase the speed not to ever exceed .8 mph even in the hottest times of the year . . . this last week, when we would exceed .4 mph, the strikes slowed down noticeably . . . .6 and .7 mph produced nothing at all . . . I have spider-rigged on Truman with top guide, IMO, Jeff Faulkenberry . . . it works, Jeff has tremendous success all year, but he also dips with a single pole among the thousands of trees . . . in deep lakes like TRL, it's more about where the brush piles are and in many cases necessitates vertical jigging over the pile . . . in Lake Washington, the deepest parts of the lake are only 20-24ft with very little or no structure . . . most of the time we are following the migrating patterns of the crappie as they move from the deeper parts of the lake to the pre-spawn staging areas and eventually into the cypress trees to spawn . . . those that chose to fish the cypress trees last week were too early and only picked up smaller crappie now and then . . . the females were in the migration and staging process leading up to the spawn and had to be found with sonar . . . we found them in mostly 10-12 feet of water at a depth of about 3-4 feet above the bottom . . . a week or two ago they were in 16 feet of water . . . Jerry Gross owns a company called Meatgetter Jigs . . . he ties a very unique WEIGHTLESS JIG that I had never seen before anywhere in Misssouri . . . he calls this weightless jig the MINNER CRITTER . . . he tips it with a live minnow and fishes 2 per pole with a 1 ounce weight toward the bottom of the rig . . . in the south, everybody knows what MINNER CRITTERS are . . . but not up here . . . every crappie you see in the photos were caught on MINNER CRITTERS . . . they are extremely effective!!! . . . by not having a weighted jig head, the minnow swims more freely and naturally and lasts much longer . . . Jerry Gross and I have developed a good relationship and I love fishing with him . . . I have learned a lot from him . . . all of his jigs are custom-tied by Jerry and his wife Debbie . . . they cannot hardly keep up with the orders . . . here's the info on guide Jerry Gross and where to stay . . . ***get the BEST CRAPPIE GUIDE on Lake Washington for the BEST PRICE (by far) on the entire lake: Jerry Gross 870-718-8665 MAKE SURE to tell him that George from Springfield MO told you to directly call him for the BEST PRICE . . .
