  1. man This Is VERY effective way to fish for trout in alaska, I have had many 60+ fish days fishing with beads. The fish take beads so fast they almost hook themselves. I never used a Indicator and I just waited for my line to stop moving and lifted up the rod tip and their you go fish on. these beads are frowned apon by most purist but they are way more fish freindly then globugs fish will swallow globugs becasue the suck them up like a vacume and gut hook them some times, not with beads. My favorite way to paint them is with spray paint and a paper bag. YOu take a paper bay sray white spray paint into it and dump your beads into the bag shake and dump you will get great milted bead. Also check out troutbeads.com they sell beads better then the hex craft store ones

  9. Ok well I am on my way to Arkansas And plan on stoping in Branson For a week to do some fishing, My Father Is coming down from Pa to meet me so we should have a good time, I hope. Anyway I have a question about permits. I am alright with spending $47 bills to fish I will be living in AR so I might tempted to come to MO every now and then, But my dad Probably is going to have a problem spending $47 buck on a permit he is going to use maby 3days. Isnt their a daily fishing permit for MO? I cant find one on the fish and game website
  10. MoMusky, Trout are fragil fish, using barbless hooks is best if you are catching and releasing. Also rubber nets are the best for trout, but fine mesh work alright, now those big green nylon nets are bad for a fish. Trout should not be held out of the water to long, nor should you put your fingers threw their gills, also wet hands are best to handle fish, but better if you dont handle them at all (the slime on the fish is needed to survive). Now I have never been to taney, but I am moving down that way soon, so I dont know if people do this on taney. Taney is a put and take fishery, but If you go out west and fish for wild trout these are the proper handling procedures Neil
  11. Place your reel seat in very hot water for a couple minutes, that will loosen it up and your seat and will come off. then you just have to cut the cork off sand and reinstall a new grip and reglue a seat. Its not that hard I just did it lask week on my xp. Oh But if you have a 2pc rod it is going to be alittle harder you will have to remove the guides on the but section then rewrap them Check out http://www.rodbuildingforum.com/ there is alot of good info to check out
  12. conehead what part of PA are you from? I am from Irwin originally I miss our great state
  13. where was that shot? out at Naknek? I love watching the bears catching fish

  15. I own their waders they work, I did alot of bushwacking in them and they still hold together pretty well and no leaks after 2 seasons of hard fishing
  16. oh your right SCII graphite is the reign rod series my bad
  17. Yes the xp is a great rod I am currently building a 9ft 5wt and I love it, I dont really need another rod to build but for the price they are offering that 6100-4 blank its hard to say no I think they have more than one and I think the exact price is $230 but currently I live in Alaska so the shipping might cost $20 if you want one
  18. their is all sorts of great fishing in alaska. IF you come to anchorage a day or two early check out the Kenai river their is huge (up to 36 inch) all natural rainbows 4 species of pacfic salmon and dolly varden. (oh larges sport caught king 96lbs came from this river) and the natural beauty of this river is great. At the port calls their is fishing and guides will cater to the boats schedule(people of southeaster alaska make most of their money from torism so their is plenty of guides and outfitters) what time of year are you taking the cruise?
  19. Dave, is their much use for a 10ft rod in the Ozarks. My local fly shop has a xp 6wt 10ft blank on sale for $200 should I buy it for when I move down there? (please say no I dont need another rod project)
  20. MrDucky you dont always need the material in question. You can subsitute elk hair for deer hair and so on so if your recipie calls for x material you can sometimes use y material and it will turn out alright
  21. Anyone out their build their own rods? I started this winter and absolutly enjoy it and found out its pretty easy. I am on my 4th build so far with a couple more planed. Just wondering if anyone else out their builds OR if there is any fly shops down their that cary building supplies?
  22. I think i just learned to reel with my left hand, because all of the reels are set up from the factory are for left hand retreive. If it isnt broke dont fix it I guess. But my 1 spinning rod is right hand retreive
  23. I wish tfo would put better cork on their grips I bought a ticrx 8wt and their is big pot holes all over where the cork filler is falling out. But i wont spend 600 dollars on a rod, I have learned to build rods since and I make my own. So my high price rods only cost about $400 thats a better deal
  24. Rio suggest you clean it everyday. this is what it says on the sheet that comes with your line "A few drops of a mild soap without detergent or a even a small bar of soap and a rag is sufficient for cleaning fly line. once its cleaned apy a supper thin coating of poo goo or another 100% silicon on a cloth and pull the line through the cloth"
  25. I built my 3wt on a st croix SCII blank its worth the money. I am not sure how the components are on the factory rod but the blank isnt bad
